Cincinnati City Council
I think you could bitch about anyone on council you wanted. The new council has had SIXTEEN days to do next to nothing. I don't think PG could do anything to make you happy. You just have your mind made up to oppose and criticize any mention of the guy. I have to put up with rural Republicans DAILY, where I work in a warehouse for the Enquirer, who bitch about Obama for EVERYTHING. They bitch about the streetcar, Over-the-Rhine, etc. It's a constant thing. And that's what I'm hearing from this banter about PG. It really helps if you actually get past your animosity and listen to what's being said, before you criticize. I remember people here up in arms because he didn't show direct support for the streetcar. He said he thought the resources could be better used on other services. BUT, he said he'd support the voters' wishes, if they came out in opposition of Issue 48. But I sense the bitterness persists. It just doesn't seem to be making much a contribution, by bitching about the same guy, simply using general statements about his honesty or--POSSIBLY--your misinterpretations. I can vouch for the guy by saying that I know he conducts himself with integrity. That's no kneejerk reaction but one that had been earned over time.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
I didn't think it was appropriate for the MSD employee to express to the media his strong opposition to the streetcar. It's a local government entity, and he's no politician. I found it extremely tacky.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Terrace Plaza Hotel
Maybe HP can be cajoled into expanding their employment base here in Cincy. What base they do have works under a parking garage with no windows for its employees. The Terrace Hotel bldg would be perfect!

Can we please get back to maturity in this thread? Really, it's come down to making fun of how people look on Council? What a waste of time.

^I'm going to be nice and say that's a ridiculous suggestion.

^^^Yeah, all I can say to those who think this is a horrible design is, "You should have been to the meetings that Bridging Broadway has been conducting for over a year." To quote an Avondale Community Council member at Saturday's Avondale Resource Fair, "If you don't fill out the survey, don't come cryin'. Don't come cryin'."

Planned unit developments don't have setbacks, for all intents and purposes.

Cincinnati: Clifton: Development and News
It appears that the facade of the old Golden Lions Lounge has been newly painted. I'd guess there's a new owner? Anyone know who the old owner was?

What makes me nervous about all those flowers is that so many people will invite themselves on to the ground, simply to pick some for themselves. I don't think they'll survive past their full blooms.

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
Mehring Way is technically Front Street, so naming Freedom Way as such would be inappropriate and inaccurate. I think it should just be called E Pete Rose Way. Hundreds of roads in Cincinnati "jog" or "break", so why should this be given special treatment? The rest of E Pete Rose Way is right on the other side of GAPB.

^^I have no way to back this assumption up, but there may be that front lawn due to soil contamination factors. After all, the land was covered with rail infrastructure for decades, prior to the construction of I-71, and establishment of surface lots all over the east side of downtown.

OCtoCincy, Did the "crappy" renderings communicate the building design to you? Then I'd say they were effective. Who cares if you don't think the renderings aren't pretty enough--they're not meant for your bedroom walls.

^Well, I can definitely agree with that. The destruction of the Victorian homes for replacement by these suburban holding cells is hardly analogous. I'm upset about the lack of will to reuse the Schiel School for adaptive reuse. I'm upset about surface lot adjacent to the Hampton Inn. However, I'm excited about the redensification of the Vine Street development, which had been a waste of space with the old Benchmark location and parking.

^And what do you mean by that? Better yet, how about just leave the CAC alone?

I think that has to do with the new residences on the north side of Reading. Would you have wanted a loud casino operation and bright lights shining through even covered windows in your unit? I wouldn't. I have faith in Bridging Broadway that more than a blank wall will be established on the north wall of the casino.

It would have made quite the statement, if they had included the Cincinnati Streetcar in that rendering.

I sense some arrogance I found so familiar from fellow students whilst in planning studios...

Cincinnati Enquirer
My biggest complaint on the Enquirer site is how articles can disappear or be moved in less than a day.

It still baffles me that a downtown or OTR United Dairy Farmers location doesn't exist. I can definitely see a well-integrated UDF location in OTR on Race or Sycamore.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
I don't see any problem with it not going south of 2nd. Yes, The Banks will be sizable. But, but stopping at 2nd, you're basically being taken to the front porch. Since when have you pulled into your driveway only to wish, "If only I could make it to the couch in my car." It's a bit pointless. Spend that money on additional track where it's more advantageous. As far as I'm concerned--great news, John.

Cincinnati: Random Development and News
It surely isn't related to the Oasis Line...right? That's where they proposed the terminus of the rail line, leading from the Transit Center. And from what I recall, that land is pretty much wasteland. I remember a small drive leading up the hill, north of Riverside Drive yet terminating at the summit.

Cincinnati: I-71 Improvements / Uptown Access Project (MLK Interchange)
At what point was Columbia Pkwy turned into more of an intraurban expressway? I heard that until the late 70s or early 80s, those with residences behind the retaining walls and stairs still had access to on-street parking on Columbia. And not to get sidetracked completely, has there been any talk about making boulevard-style improvements to MLK near the interchange, such as a landscaped median? I'd hate to see it just turn into a sea of traffic. That would be hell for bicyclists or anyone planning to cross the street at Gilbert.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Some people don't understand that just because you *can* walk somewhere doesn't mean you'll do it regularly, unless you're trying to prove a dimwitted point. I *could* walk to Northside from Clifton, to meet someone for lunch, but mostly likely, I'll either take the bus or drive. But I have a choice there. I'd like to have the choice of taking a streetcar, which stops by a destination every 10-15 minutes (and gives me a smooth ride), than to drive and find parking, walk, or wait for a bus with a lengthy route and turnaround time.
