  1. Late update: Fatburger was great. It was sure nice to have it again, and I didn't have to wait until the next time I was out west. Free digital jukebox too. Delicious ice cream shakes. Two different kinds of fries. Rally's and Arby's can eat it.
  2. Well, the people who complain about there being nothing to do in Cincy simply aren't trying. I could maybe see that argument with some meat about ten years ago, but non-drinking establishments and attractions have popped up several dozen fold. I tell visitors about those very same people: many Cincinnatians hate Cincinnati, but they don't even try. Believe me, I used to be one of those people...back in the 90's.
  3. Well, where do you work? There is the bike...
  4. I hardly think the answer is to ask the police to cut back on busting people who are underage drinkers. Additionally, how would bringing 18+ crowds to the bars solve anything. That would probably bring even MORE underage drinking to the district.
  5. That's exactly what I'm saying. If the city felt that it was a good investment for the fleet, then they'd spend the dollars. Metro as a non-profit company just doesn't have the resources to do that right now. Do you know any non-profit private transit agencies that have the technology?
  6. ^I'm sure that the staff and operations would remain the same too. But the decision to implement something like a Smart Card technology would be largely decided by the city.

It's too bad that that bicycle commuting reimbursement doesn't start until January. I could definitely use that $20/month now for my bike.
  8. IF there is a Metro by that point. I'm not sure if it would be any different (or the timetable on that implementation) would be any different if the city took control.
  9. Then you'd be discouraging suburban ridership. But that's the whole point of the regional bus system that council motioned to approve last month.
  10. That would cost even more money to replace the old ones. A complete waste of resources. Metro has swipe cards for other people--seniors, high school students, etc. Those cards are paid for one way or another. I think it's a good idea that they're using this method because it's aligned with all the other prepaid fare types. The old way just inefficient, which also left it up to the driver to count the UC passenger in the system. (Ever notice how they press a button after you board with your UCID...?) That's no good way to accurately count how many people are using a certain type of service.
  11. Okay, glad to hear that. I guess I should be receiving mine very soon. Thanks.
  12. Well, my issue is that I ordered one two weeks ago, and I still haven't received mine. That has me worried, since I rely on my student ID to commute.
  13. ^^ That is a great photo!
  14. This reminds me of a map I saw on the Building Cincinnati blog. It shows the loss of buildings since 1930 in a section of OTR: Downtown has lost most of its buildings since 1930. Is this what we want?
  15. You have the right tone. Personally, I don't think I'll still be here to enjoy much of the streetcar offerings. I support it wholeheartedly, but living here for 21 years and waiting another 3 for actual transit progress...you get burnt out on the bogeys.
  16. I think something special could have been done with the Emergency Medical Center building, but alas it will not happen. I agree about the one to the west of the Levinson Bros building, but as someone said before, it adds to the historic nature of the district. I just don't agree with tearing down buildings because we don't like them. If they're blighted, sure. We in the US have a fetish with teardowns.
  17. Northside wasn't even on the rise until around the turn of this century. Maybe a couple years earlier. I couldn't disagree more that Northside's success had anything to do with the fall of Short Vine. And if I were UC, I would be playing "Sim City" too. They're there to run a business and protect their investments. You'll have to expound, as I don't know how you're correlating UC, Short Vine, and some sort of control imposed on the district.
  18. Nashville is really nice. I used to love going down there when I still had a car. Used to go several times per year to see shows.
  19. Absolutely Chicago. I don't think I can ever get enough of that city. I'm actually headed there Friday morning. Yes, it's love.
  20. For what it's worth, I found my screen capture from yesterday:
  21. GASP!!! What?? There's a Fatburger in Cincinnati? WHAT? Where?
  22. Windows is horrible, so I wasn't able to do a screen capture, so I provided this link for anyone who's unfamiliar with the block: http://maps.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&FORM=LMLTCP&cp=qhgzyn7yq3jx&style=o&lvl=2&tilt=-90&dir=0&alt=-1000&scene=9220383&phx=0&phy=0&phscl=1&encType=1
  23. At this point, $8 billion sounds like chump change. It *is* very hard to believe now, with all the extraneous government spending that we can't get this to happen NOW.
