So what's next after the Senate floor vote?

Cincinnati: Retail News
Too bad none if this new large-scale retail is opening downtown. I still think all the tenants, including B&N could move over to the Cincinnati side to lure a larger customer base.

After that, they could have said, "Oh yeah? Well, we're outta here, and we're taking our check with us!"

I guess I ride my bicycle through backyards instead...

I'd definitely take that over driving to Chicago every time. Might put Megabus on the ropes too.

Amtrak & Federal: Passenger Rail News
Well, I'm not sure if we know a timetable yet on when it'll actually hit the president's desk. Perhaps it could be January, after the buffoon is out of office?

Cincinnati: Bicycling Developments and News
One more thing. Are you advocating more for designated lanes rather than bike-exclusive lanes? They most certainly have them in Chicago and Bloomington, to name a couple.

Cincinnati: Bicycling Developments and News
I'd say that it's your response that's negative and biased. I just rode today,as I mentioned, and I did what I could to stay to the very right of the right lane (when there was more than one lane), or I just rode the shoulder line. Cars and trucks either went around me or used the other side of the lane to get around. Riding around Corryville, Walnut Hills, Clifton, Northside...it's all the same. Sure, I've run into a few individuals who will honk, but it's really seldom. I think that if you're showing that you're willing to share the road just as much as you expect them, things tend to work out.

Cycling Advocacy
Today, I just began a combined bus/bike work commute from Clifton to Hamilton, OH, using bus route 17 (Seven Hills). I chose to take US-127, based on its relative safety over north-south routes like OH-4 and US-27. Then I take the bike trail from Joyce Park up to High Street. First day: not too bad. I've got relatives and friends afraid for me though. Drivers were very responsive, and I didn't get any strife from them. I'm not expecting it to always be this way, but I'm going to continue my commute in this way based on the success of my first run. However, yesterday I rode home in a borrowed car, and I was driving almost 50 mph just keeping pace with the rest of traffic. That worried me for my journey the following morning.

Cincinnati: Clifton Heights: U Square @ the Loop
I still don't agree with how the entire stretch was sold to a single developer. No matter what, this thing is going to look like a behemoth and a mega-project.

Greater Cincinnati Metro (SORTA) and TANK News & Discussion
For the fourth time, a Metro bus driver refused to help me with the bike rack. I'm starting my job in Hamilton in a few days, and I'm thoroughly aggravated with Metro bus drivers. Prior to my riding a bike, I saw them help riders in the past. What does it take?! Not all of us can learn how to use a new device for the first time in just 30 seconds. Gah.

One more for the books. I really think a new rule book needs to be written for development procedures. How many vacant lots do we want?

Amtrak & Federal: Passenger Rail News
I'm very excited. I'll be riding the Megabus to Chicago, and taking a round trip Lake Shore train to Erie, PA. It beats wondering if you'll be *lucky* enough to get an inconvenient red-eye train out of Cincinnati.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
I don't know. There have been many proposed projects since I've been a Cincinnati resident (circa 1987) that never came to fruition...that just subsided and fell into oblivion. There's a definite reason for the skepticism.

Greater Cincinnati Metro (SORTA) and TANK News & Discussion
I'm really glad they're doing this. Why, you ask? Well, each time I've tried to get my bike on the rack, and I asked for help from the driver, they outright refused to help me. So I was forced to just forget it and keep riding. All three times.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
How long are we actually supposed to wait, before we hear back from Dohoney on whether private funding is in place? The more time that goes by, the less confident I am that Cincinnati's going to actually get its head out if its own ass.

Who's NOT to blame for $4 gas
Plastic dependency is the same as oil dependency. Not only that but plastic is poisoning our environment every day. There's no reason why we can't use biomaterials or use plastics that can actually be easily recycled. The same goes for everyday products such as beverage cups, food containers, and compact disc packaging. Plastic use isn't necessary in all the facets of life we do currently.

Amtrak & Federal: Passenger Rail News
On this issue specifically, it's not about rail being self sufficient, it's about NOT having the government run an organization like Amtrak. Government owned and operated railways, companies, factories, etc are a hallmark of socialism, not capitalism. Conservatives tend to be lean heavily towards small government and capitalism, thus their problem with institutions such as Amtrak, which may or may not be a necessary evil. If rail was owned and maintained by states, as highways are, I think we'd have less problems on our hands.

Greater Cincinnati Metro (SORTA) and TANK News & Discussion
I would like to advise that a regional bus system with better organization and funding sources would help this region out very much. We shouldn't turn our noses up at something like this just because it isn't the streetcar and it isn't light rail. As multiple areas in the region have a reasonable stake in a regional system, I believe that there will be a better likelihood that more cities/counties/townships will see the benefits of something like light rail. Without it, I still don't see outlying areas of the region buying into light rail...even now.
