  1. The rankings don't tell the whole story either. Metros like NYC, Chicago, Washington and Houston have multiple airports ranked ahead of us due to shear size alone. It's not really something that can be blamed on the airport itself, but nice try. I'm still waiting to learn about some specific opportunities Cleveland lost directly due to Hopkins.
  2. Nice non answer
  3. What lost opportunities are you referring to? It hasn't hindered Cleveland's recent ability to attract major national events, jobs and visitors to the city and region.
  4. Let it go, boomer. I stand by my original comments about Hopkins. It's a fine airport that's getting better each year. The numbers prove it.
  5. Not so funny story. My gf and I took the w65th rapid last Friday morning to catch a flight to NYC for the weekend. My sister (who lives on w117th about .5mi north of the rapid station) opted for an uber that never showed due to winter weather/traffic on 90. Well, long story short - she didn't get to enjoy NYC last weekend. ALWAYS TAKE THE RAPID, KIDS!
  6. I rarely have trouble finding direct flights to most of America when traveling out of Cleveland. I also get thru security in 20min or less 90% of the time. I don't care about anything else. I take the rapid, so neither parking nor rental cars are a big deal to me. I do recognize the current rental car situation isn't optimal. Given the recent growth in passenger numbers and improvements on the J.D. Power customer service rankings, I'd say most travelers are in the same boat as I. The airport isn't as awful as you and a few others make it out to be.
  7. Yes it does. The airport is mostly fine. Get a few more direct flights, fix the rental car situation and move on.
  8. 100% agreed. I'm always mystified why the "run it like business" crowd always forgets to mention that most businesses fail. Gee willikers, if it were that easy we could just have no government at all.
  9. That number is most likely retail store employees - they open 80-100 new locations per year.
  10. Q2. Why won’t both facilities be located together in the city of Cleveland? Won’t this impact your ability to collaborate? Due to current building codes, safety requirements, transportation needs and other Company requirements, the Company could not find a suitable location to co-locate the R&D center and the global headquarters downtown. The Brecksville site will provide a large R&D footprint with flexibility for future expansion and will be only a 20-minute drive to our new global headquarters building. Collaboration will not be an issue given today’s communication technology.

  12. The report says "some" not "a lot". Some usually means not many. The company's headquarters will be in New York City. Some of the employees will be relocated within the region and elsewhere, while other jobs are being lost.
  13. from cle.com Macy’s to close 125 more stores, shut down corporate office in Lorain In addition, Macy’s will consolidate its company headquarters in New York City and close its satellite offices in Lorain, Cincinnati and San Francisco. As a result, 2,000 corporate positions are being eliminated. During this transition period, the company said there will be staff reductions at some stores, but increases in others. https://www.cleveland.com/entertainment/2020/02/macys-to-close-125-more-stores-shut-down-corporate-office-in-lorain.html

Akron-Canton Airport passenger numbers drop again in 2019, but CEO is optimistic for a rebound Akron Extra Blog: CAK saw its passenger volume drop 9.7% in 2019, to 834,365 travelers, but president and CEO Ren Camacho said completion of the airport's $34 million gate modernization project and other factors offer reason to be optimistic. Plus, CAK unveils a refurbished visitors center, and the Development Finance Authority of Summit County sees board changes. https://www.crainscleveland.com/sue-walton-blogs/akron-canton-airport-passenger-numbers-drop-again-2019-ceo-optimistic-rebound
  16. I don't think that's the case, they've been sending discount flyers out (at least in my neighborhood) since they've opened. Heinens doesn't mail them, but they post discounts on their site weekly. It's common practice.
  17. Cleveland Hopkins International Airport welcomed just over 10 million passengers in 2019, the highest number in more than a decade. Passenger traffic in 2019 was up 4.13% over 2018, to 10,040,817 https://www.cleveland.com/business/2020/01/cleveland-hopkins-airport-passenger-traffic-hits-10-million-in-2019-up-4.html

That's like asking the owner of Spitzer cars to show up every time you come in for a oil change. There's much to pick on him for, but this wouldn't be the thing.
  19. My bad - misread it the first time around.
  20. No he didn't, he suggested it would be a "midrise". The article states "Panzica wouldn't discuss its height other than characterizing it as midrise, which means under six stories". It was the Crain's writer who interprets it as being under 6 stories but his definition of midrise isn't correct.
  21. I spoke with Chad about this today. He's encouraging everyone who supports this project to show up at the BZA meeting on Monday at 9:30am.
  22. Sounds like we're getting close to that point (if not already there). See this: https://www.cleveland.com/business/2019/12/report-cleveland-had-highest-rent-growth-among-top-100-cities-in-2019.html
  23. Do you work at the downtown HQ? My girlfriend went to work there today in jeans (it does cost a couple bucks but it goes to charity) and she gets to work from home once a week. The white male thing varies by department. For instance, my gf's direct report is a 38yr woman and her department is mostly made up of younger females.
  24. I know what you mean but seriously, who needs them? We got the best reporter in the land right here!
