  1. IBM will make itself at home atop 1111 Superior Building Taking three floors of offices with a view of downtown Cleveland, IBM Corp. has leased the former Eaton Corp. executive offices atop the 28-story 1111 Superior Building. Myrna Previte, the Kowit & Co. broker who represents the office tower, said the just-executed lease reflects stepped-up office action in the city and building. “It’s very exciting for downtown,” she said. “It’s not musical chairs but a blue-chip tenant that is expanding.” IBM spokesman Clint Roswell confirmed the company has leased space in the structure. He said IBM will station an operation currently in the region in the property but was unable to provide more details. http://www.crainscleveland.com/article/20160306/NEWS/160309885/ibm-will-make-itself-at-home-atop-1111-superior-building

  3. Dead serious. I'm told they signed the space next to ESPN Zone.
  4. Hooters also signed a lease for the next phase.
  5. ^^ The city never cites for code violations, so the run down houses sit there, waiting for someone willing to pay big bucks. That is simply not true. Check this for weekly code violation notices: http://planning.city.cleveland.oh.us/bza/bbs.html
  6. Raving Med, a Fast-Casual Middle Eastern Concept, to Open in Playhouse Square It’s been three and a half years since Acapella restaurant closed in the Playhouse Square neighborhood, but the space finally will reopen this March. Restaurant owner Seth Bromberg, who also operates the nearby District (1350 Euclid Ave., 216-858-1000), will open Raving Med, a casual eatery that will specialize in Israeli street food staples like falafel and shawarma. Throughout Israel, explains Bromberg, a frequent visitor to that country, small falafel and shawarma stands are as common as are hot dog carts in urban American cities. Though each operator has his or her own twist on doing things, all benefit from fresh ingredients prepared daily and cooked to order. http://www.clevescene.com/scene-and-heard/archives/2016/02/16/raving-med-a-fast-casual-middle-eastern-concept-to-open-in-playhouse-square
  7. ^The work you're seeing now is part of the Shoreway project. I'd expect groundbreaking for the apartments and retail sometime this Spring.

Based on this and past history (particularly the Avon incident), I'd say it's at least 50% likely this is Crowley making something up to pay him back for dumping her. Quarterback Johnny Manziel allegedly struck his ex-girlfriend several times during an incident at the Hotel ZaZa in downtown Dallas last Saturday, according to a police report released Thursday. According to the report, Manziel and his ex-girlfriend left the hotel after he struck her. Manziel drove them to his ex-girlfriend's apartment in Fort Worth. The ex-girlfriend told officers that she and Manziel shouted angrily at each other, going back and forth, during the drive, and that he struck her several more times. http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/14717442/johnny-manziel-allegedly-struck-ex-girlfriend-according-police-report

  12. Medical Mutual HQ mortgage in trouble, as insurer eyes real estate options (photos) CLEVELAND, Ohio – The owner of Medical Mutual of Ohio's headquarters building in downtown Cleveland has run into trouble with his lender, just as his sole tenant is evaluating the future of its office space. An affiliate of BentleyForbes, a Los Angeles-based landlord, recently said it would be unable to repay or refinance a loan on the Medical Mutual complex, comprised of the 10-story Rose Building and its six-story annex at East Ninth Street and Prospect Avenue. Control of the loan, which matured Jan. 1, transferred in December to a special servicer, a company that deals with troubled commercial real estate debt. http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2016/01/medical_mutual_hq_mortgage_in.html#comments
  13. Forthcoming Ohio City Music Settlement to attract more than 200 students The otherwise unremarkable corner of Detroit Avenue and West 25th Street is on the verge of a rebirth that will include hundreds of students, the bulk of which will be five years old and under. "We think Ohio City is a perfect fit for us," says Charles Lawrence, president and CEO of the Music Settlement, a 103-year old organization that offers music therapy, early childhood education, and music instruction to people of all ages and levels of experience. "Hingetown is an incredibly energetic and engaging area." http://www.freshwatercleveland.com/devnews/musicsettlement010516.aspx
  14. February opening eyed for duck-rabbit coffee in Duck Island Calvin Verga, founder of duck-rabbit coffee, has very specific standards when it comes to pouring a proper cuppa, starting with where the beans are grown. "We roast in such a way to highlight all the different characteristics," says Verga, adding that a good cup of coffee is defined by its origin. He tags berry, currant and grape notes in coffee from Kenya, Rwanda and Burundi; citrus and floral flavors from Ethiopian beans and rustic earthy notes in those from Sumatra. Unlike the more common dark roasted beans, a delicate light roast brings out those nuanced flavors. http://www.freshwatercleveland.com/devnews/duckrabbitcoffee010416.aspx
  15. This place sounds amazing! Cinci-Based Jeff Ruby’s Steakhouse to Open in Old National City Bank Lobby One of Cleveland’s most spectacular interiors has officially been claimed. Originally home to the Cleveland Trust Co., and later National City Bank, the column-lined bank lobby on the main floor of the Garfield Building will become the Cleveland home for Jeff Ruby’s Steakhouse. The 11-story structure, built in the 1890s, was recently purchased by Cleveland-based The Millennia Companies, which has plans to convert the bulk of the building into apartments. The first Jeff Ruby’s Steakhouse opened in Cincinnati in 1999, followed by a location in Louisville in 2006. The third Jeff Ruby’s Steakhouse is slated to open this April in Nashville, with Cleveland following in late spring or early summer. Jeff Ruby's Steakhouse is the flagship brand of Jeff Ruby Culinary Entertainment restaurant group, which also operates Precinct and Carlo & Johnny. http://www.clevescene.com/scene-and-heard/archives/2015/12/14/cinci-based-jeff-rubys-steakhouse-to-open-in-old-national-city-bank-lobby
  16. A new life for older properties The Jay Hotel, at 2515 Jay Ave., and the West Side Community House, at 3000 Bridge Ave., reflect the diverse roots of Ohio City as the historic district near downtown Cleveland continues to evolve from a poor to increasingly well-to-do neighborhood. Before the Jay went dark in the 1990s, generations of West Siders knew it as a flop house. Meantime, the former West Side Community House opened in 1920 as a settlement house providing English classes and other services for immigrants and evolved to providing social services. http://www.crainscleveland.com/article/20151213/NEWS/151219927/a-new-life-for-older-properties

  19. ACE Report: October again is time to be grateful for in job market Thanksgiving is in November, of course, but when it comes to creating jobs in Northeast Ohio and statewide, it seems the month we should be most thankful for is October. After several months of weak payroll job gains or modest losses in jobs, Northeast Ohio’s private sector bounced back in October with an estimated gain of 3,034 jobs on a seasonally adjusted basis, according to the latest Ahola Crain’s Employment (ACE) Report. The region’s private sector grew to 1,165,019 jobs in October from 1,161,986 in September. http://www.crainscleveland.com/article/20151125/NEWS/151129849/ace-report-october-again-is-time-to-be-grateful-for-in-job-market
