University Hospitals, Geis could create hundreds of jobs in the Health-Tech Corridor University Hospitals announced earlier this month that it plans to build a community care center, called the UH Rainbow Center for Women’s and Children’s Health, on East 57th Street and Euclid Avenue on a part of 12 acres in MidTown’s Health-Tech Corridor. Along with the facility, Geis Companies’ Hemingway Development will develop the rest of the land for a second Midtown Tech Park with mixed-use medical companies, retail, restaurants and other commercial space. 12. Cleveland Athletic Club Building set for sheriff's sale March 9, after years of tangles (photos) CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Expect some competitive jostling if the Cleveland Athletic Club Building pops up at a public foreclosure auction next month. Court records show that the vacant downtown Cleveland building has been scheduled for a March 9 sheriff's sale, as the result of a hefty unpaid property-tax bill. But with more than a week between now and then - and a property that has traversed such a tangled path - it's hard to predict what might happen. The building, home to the venerable athletic club until late 2007, is a rare, lingering pocket of dead space on Euclid Avenue between Public Square and Playhouse Square. East Side investor Eli Mann bought the property more than seven years ago, with grandiose overhaul plans. Nothing happened. A different investor group spent five-plus years pursuing a hotel project, to no avail. http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2015/02/cleveland_athletic_club_buildi_2.html#incart_river
  13. A New Index to Measure Sprawl Gives High Marks to Los Angeles L.A. is the least sprawling metro area in the country, according to this analysis, besting New York and San Francisco. 14. Planners looking at high-end bus-transit line for West 25th Street CLEVELAND, Ohio -- West 25th Street pulses with new bistros and restaurants, and work gets underway next year on a $400 million overhaul of its biggest anchor, MetroHealth Medical Center's main campus. From Detroit Avenue to the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo and on to the neighborhood of Old Brooklyn, the 3.8-mile West 25th Street corridor ranks as one of the most traveled north-south arteries in Cleveland. A "lite" version of bus-rapid transit -- that would look and act a lot like the new Cleveland State Line that runs along Clifton Boulevard -- would be the best fit for West 25th and would help transform and invigorate the avenue even further, a new study concludes http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2015/02/lite_bus-rapid_transit_tailore.html#incart_river

  16. Edge Hair Studio, Blue Envelope team up to launch Small Box store in Warehouse District The Small Box shipping container retail project in downtown Cleveland’s Warehouse District is about to get a new tenant — and perhaps space for even more. The Historic Warehouse District Development Corp. announced that Blue Edge — a collaboration between Edge Hair Studio and Blue Envelope, both in downtown Willoughby — will open in early March at Small Box, which is at the corner of West Sixth Street and St. Clair Avenue. The store will offer “eco-conscious and high-end gift and beauty products,” according to a news release. http://www.crainscleveland.com/article/20150205/FREE/150209918/edge-hair-studio-blue-envelope-team-up-to-launch-small-box-store-in
  17. A towering real estate move might be in the offing “Tower City Shops LLC” is the head-turning name of a foreign corporation registered Jan. 9 with the Ohio Secretary of State’s office. The moniker immediately brings to mind The Avenue at Tower City Center, the downtown shopping center that Cleveland-based Forest City Enterprises Inc. came close to selling last summer. Adding to the intrigue: The filing was by lawyer Howard N. Luckoff of Detroit, whose name also appears on legal documents associated with property deals that Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert’s Rock Gaming has executed for Horseshoe Cleveland Casino. http://www.crainscleveland.com/article/20150131/FREE/150139976/a-towering-real-estate-move-might-be-in-the-offing
