  1. ^^It's going to one of these two projects... Since last fall, developers John Carney, Bob Rains and David Goldberg have been working with State Rep. Kirk Schuring, a Canton Republican, to find a way around the $5 million cap. This month, they succeeded. House Bill 483 contained a special provision for "catalytic projects" - which can win up to $25 million in state credits over five years, drawing $5 million per year. The state can recognize one such project every biennium. To be deemed "catalytic," a redevelopment project must spur economic development within 2,500 feet of the building. And, in the first two fiscal years, at least, the rehabilitation work has to cost more than $75 million. The law doesn't specifically mention the May Co. building, but it's clear that's what Schuring had in mind. http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2014/06/may_co_apartment_revamp_could.html
  2. So is it either this or the May Co building? If so, which one would you prefer?
  3. Greek Village Owner to Open New Greek Concept in Warehouse District Tommy Karakostas is on a roll. He opened his popular Lakewood eatery Greek Village Grille — voted Best Greek Restaurant by Scene readers — in 2009. He followed that up with a new Greek Village in Broadview Heights in 2013. This week he opens his third Greek Village, this one in Medina. And by the end of October he will open Santorini, a modern Greek restaurant in the Warehouse District http://www.clevescene.com/scene-and-heard/archives/2014/09/08/greek-village-owner-to-open-new-greek-concept-in-warehouse-district
  4. The Ravens finally did the right thing and terminated Ray Rice's contract.
  5. This should keep Geis busy: "Rains said the developers are working with the Geis Cos. of Streetsboro on a construction plan with an aggressive 14-month renovation schedule. If the May Co. building snags a catalytic project award this year, then construction might start in January or February". http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2014/06/may_co_apartment_revamp_could.html and the timelines in this article align with what gottaplan just mentioned....

  7. ^ no it's to the right of the "s" in nuCLEus.
  8. I'd guess mid-200's. Are you referring to the grey/light blue/neon green structure?
  9. Any guesses on height? I realize its just a conceptual placeholder but it does look quite tall.

  11. Super cool! rta introduces ohio city connector, making it easier to travel between downtown and ohio city More than 200 buses run between downtown Cleveland and Ohio City every day. At the same time, both areas have become increasingly popular places to work, live, shop, eat and play. So why not better market, brand and highlight the connections that exist between the two neighborhoods as part of a larger effort to encourage more people to use transit when traveling in and around downtown? http://www.freshwatercleveland.com/devnews/ohiocityconnector082114.aspx

  13. East 6th Street and St. Clair Avenue Resurfacing Project by Daniel Ball On Monday August 18, weather permitting, work will begin on the East 6th Street and St. Clair Avenue resurfacing project. This resurfacing project will be conducted in two phases and is scheduled to be completed on October 24, 2014. East 6th Street and St. Clair Avenue Resurfacing Project Phase I (August 18, 2014 – September 24, 2014): Phase I of the project involves the resurfacing of East 6th Street (Lakeside Avenue to Superior Avenue) and the resurfacing of St. Clair Avenue (East 6th Street to Ontario Street). On East 6th Street, traffic will be maintained in one lane, each direction, on the west side of the roadway, both northbound and southbound, during all construction on the east side of the roadway. Once construction on the east side of the roadway is completed, work will be shifted onto the west side of the roadway and traffic will be maintained on the east side. On St. Clair Avenue, traffic will be maintained in one lane, each direction, on the north side of the roadway, both eastbound and westbound, during all construction on the south side of the roadway. Once construction on the south side of the roadway is completed, work will be shifted onto the north side of the roadway and traffic will be maintained on the south side. Phase II (September 25, 2014 – October 24, 2014): Phase II of the project involves additional resurfacing of St. Clair Avenue (Ontario Street to West 9th Street). On St. Clair Avenue, traffic will be maintained in one lane, each direction, on the north side of the road way, both eastbound and westbound, while construction is occurring on the south side of the roadway. Once construction on the south side of the roadway is completed, work will be shifted onto the north side of the roadway and traffic will be maintained on the south side. Improvements to both East 6th Street and St. Clair Avenue will include grinding and the installment of 3 inches of asphalt, base repairs, and upgrading ADA compliant ramps where needed. http://clecityhall.com/2014/08/18/east-6th-street-and-st-clair-avenue-resurfacing-project/

  15. Nice pics...Damn our city is looking good!
  16. Yeah and one of the guys has already been apprehended....
  17. Exciting times and more proof of growth on the near westside...Thanks for the updated pics KJP!
  18. The original plan hasn't changed as much as you've said. They've always planned for a Miami style club in that space. There's going to be plenty of other venues opening as part of phase II as well.
  19. Barrio will be a nice addition on that stretch as well.
  20. As soon as the season is over they will begin work.
  21. The East Side population plummeted 22.3 percent between 2000 and 2010 while the West Side dropped by 9.5 percent. While many black East Siders no doubt fled the city altogether, a sizable number ended up on the West Side, which has a reputation for having better schools and more stable neighborhoods. http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2011/03/clevelands_shifting_population.html
  22. I have to disagree with this statement. The house next to mine (Gordon Sq area) went on sale two Thursdays ago. I had no less than 20 people, a lot of families BTW, drive by and ask questions about the house, neighborhood, etc. It sold in four days. Where on the eastside are 100 yr old houses being sold for 200k in less than a week?
  23. That is correct! According to this article posted today they are opening for good on 8/9. The Bank. 200 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland; Twitter: @BankCleveland; Opening: Aug. 9: One of the biggest plans has also been one of the quietest. "That's the intention," says co-owner Donnie Burton. "There's a lot to do, and we want to make sure we get it right." Yes, there is a lot: a bar-restaurant in the old Barroom spot and a club in the back area behind the old Cadillac Ranch, in the May Co. building. "We're going to have two http://www.cleveland.com/entertainment/index.ssf/2014/07/clevelands_nightlife_revival_1.html
