Finally!!! Landmark detroit shoreway building will be reborn as 30-unit apartment building The Templin Bradley Company building, the stout brick frame of which has served as a gateway to the Detroit Shoreway neighborhood for the past 100 years, once housed the nation's largest seed and bulb company. Templin Bradley gave away literally hundreds of thousands of seeds and bulbs during the Depression, and was a leader in helping citizens start victory gardens during World War II. http://www.freshwatercleveland.com/devnews/templinbradleybuilding052114.aspx

Global moms help international families make a smooth move to Cleveland CLEVELAND, Ohio--Olga Huerta drove her 8-year-old daughter to school on her first day of third grade, then went home and paced the apartment. The family had just moved to the Shaker Heights School District from Barcelona, Spain. The children spoke very little English. Their parents had very little advice. Mom had given Joana a note that read in English, "Can I go to the bathroom?" When she picked up her daughter after school, Olga Huerta took a breath and asked, "How was it?" "Oh, fine," Joana replied. Mom started crying. "And I never cry." Moving the family to a new city in a new country can be a rewarding adventure, certainly. But it's also a stressful, often bewildering experience, Olga Huerta can attest. http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2014/05/global_moms_help_international.html#incart_m-rpt-2

Cold-Pressed Juice Café Coming to Gordon Square By mid-June, the Gordon Square neighborhood will have its very own juice café, courtesy of Jodi Rae Santosuosso. Daily Press (6604 Detroit Ave.), located across the street from Luxe, will specialize in nutrition-focused cold-pressed juices and blended smoothies that utilize local and organic ingredients. For the past 10 years, Santosuosso lived in California, where she taught yoga and studied health and nutrition. She returned home to Cleveland to open the business. Up to now, she's been making the juices for family and friends, and selling them to the Black Pig, which uses them in cocktails. http://www.clevescene.com/scene-and-heard/archives/2014/04/17/cold-pressed-juice-caf-coming-to-gordon-square

More love on Lorain: Humble Pie Baking Co. Inks Deal on Ohio City Pie Shop During a really busy week, Diane Sikorski might bake an astonishing 600 pies for adoring fans of her Humble Pie Baking Co. (586-354-5711). But the most surprising part of that equation is that all of those pies are being baked in her Avon Lake home. But not for long, she reports. Sikorski and her husband Steve just closed on a retail space in Ohio City. Fittingly, the building (3246 Lorain Ave.) was once home to the Lorain Fulton Bakery, which produced a variety of baked goods and breads. "It's kind of neat to be breathing new life into it as a bakery again," says Sikorski. http://www.clevescene.com/scene-and-heard/archives/2014/04/08/humble-pie-baking-co-inks-deal-on-ohio-city-pie-shop

gordon square developer begins marketing harborview townhomes Developer Mike DeCesare had far greater success with the Waverly Station Townhomes than he'd originally envisioned. Anticipating that it would take three to four years to sell and build the units, he was surprised to find that he was able to sell all 22 units in about two years. Now he's getting ready to launch his next development, the seven-unit Harborview Townhomes at W. 54th and Herman Avenue, which offer lake and downtown views. http://www.freshwatercleveland.com/devnews/harborviewtownhomes033114.aspx

Design changes show that Cuyahoga County's new convention hotel is likely to include a rooftop bar CLEVELAND, Ohio -- In a design shift prompted by public response to plans for a new convention hotel downtown, Cuyahoga County is thinking very seriously of adding a publicly accessible bar to the building’s 32nd floor. At a public meeting in August, Clevelanders told architects of the new convention hotel – to be built adjacent to the Global Center for Health Innovation and the city’s new convention center – that they wanted the building to have a rooftop bar http://www.cleveland.com/architecture/index.ssf/2014/04/design_changes_show_that_cuyah.html#incart_river_default

Suburban Sprawl News & Discussion
"The trend also is driven by increasing numbers of young people delaying or foregoing marriage and childbirth, which often prompt moves to the suburbs." "People are hanging tough in urban areas," he says. "Some of them are going to stay there for the long term." Yes we are... None of this is really new. People said this during the 80s or early 90s as well. Some even did, but those who did are typically the ones who did not have kids. Plus there are a lot of new families moving into our neighborhood. This past wknd I met a young couple (with a daughter) that moved to Gordon Square from Strongsville. If you don't live/visit here than it's hard for you to see the change that's happening. It's really a great thing.

So there were 12k people living in downtown Cleveland in the 80's and 90's with a waiting list for most apartment buildings?
