  1. Sammy's closes PlayhouseSquare restaurant and catering operations Sammy’s, a forerunner in Cleveland’s restaurant renaissance, suddenly ceased operation today. Formal word was announced in a brief message posted on the restaurant and catering company’s corporate website, sammys.com: “City Life Inc., D/B/A [doing business as] Sammy’s announced it has made the decision to close its facilities. We are currently in negotiations with a local caterer to transition our existing clients.” http://www.cleveland.com/dining/index.ssf/2013/08/sammys_closes_playhousesquare.html#incart_river_default
  2. urban-oriented families: as school choices increase, so too does the number of parents choosing city When my wife and I became pregnant with our first child, I felt as though there was a ticking time bomb over my head. As much as we enjoyed our townhouse in the city, we knew that we would run out bedrooms if we decided to grow our family. And then there was the question of schools, a sheer cliff of anxiety looming on the not-too-distant horizon. When our townhouse started to feel cramped with a walking toddler and a second on the way, we poked around the leafy neighborhoods of Shaker Heights. While charming, the curvy streets reminded me of a suburban Bermuda Triangle. The homes were stately yet dated, and the drone of leaf blowers filled the air. It wasn’t for us. http://freshwatercleveland.com/features/urbanorientedlife080113.aspx

  5. Cleveland's new convention hotel could bring life to the Mall and connect a disconnected downtown Utter the words “convention center hotel” and images of architectural processed cheese come to mind. Convention hotels often have a generic, plastic-wrapped look, with punch-card window patterns pasted on a slab-shaped towers with big, lighted logos as a garnishes. The hotels can look busy and crowded when they’re receiving or disgorging hundreds of guests, but desolate in slow times. Few would make anyone’s list of memorable places in any city. http://www.cleveland.com/architecture/index.ssf/2013/07/the_new_cleveland_convention_h.html#incart_river_default

These lawsuits are a real thing and can definitely end the game as we know it. I have friends who coach in the NFL that won't let their sons play.

  23. Cleveland's restaurant scene has lessons for other Great Lakes cities, says writer Most Clevelanders know what a great dining scene we enjoy. But it never hurts to get an outsider's perspective -- and an excellent assessment appeared in Sunday's Buffalo (N.Y.) News. Could Mike Wallace end up with Cleveland Browns? The Steelers have no plans to slap the franchise tag on wide receiver Mike Wallace, which means that the free agent's days in Pittsburgh are numbered. The news gets worse for Steelers fans.
