  3. U.S. jobless claims drop to 5-year low of 330,000 WASHINGTON -- The number of Americans seeking unemployment aid fell last week to the lowest level in five years, evidence that employers are cutting fewer jobs and may step up hiring. The Labor Department said Thursday that weekly unemployment benefit applications dropped 5,000 to a seasonally adjusted 330,000. That's the fewest since January 2008. http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2013/01/us_jobless_claims_drop_to_5-ye.html#incart_river_default

  5. America's economyLooking better WHEN Barack Obama was sworn in four years ago, the economic figures were terrifying. A financial crisis and a savage recession were in full swing, and house foreclosures were soaring. The day of his inauguration, panic about the banks sent the Dow Jones Industrial Average down more than 300 points. At the start of his second term, by contrast, the Dow hit a five-year high, while a widely followed index of investor fear called the VIX reached a near-six-year low (see table). http://www.economist.com/blogs/freeexchange/2013/01/americas-economy-0?fsrc=rss

^Agreed. Kyrie has many years left in Cleveland b/c of how the contracts/caps/taxes work in the NBA.
  8. Young lawyers find cost-of-living, amenities, make Cleveland the place to be CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Addisah Sherwood has been a Fulbright scholar in Ghana, a Rotary scholar in Jamaica, and worked in New York and California for Skadden Arps, a mega-firm with nearly 1,900 lawyers who span the globe. But when it came to putting down roots, Sherwood and her husband picked Cleveland. http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2013/01/young_lawyers_find_cost-of-liv.html#incart_river

Well that was imaginitive. Look at what he did with the Defense Finance case. He held rallies and made speeches. Inffective for anything other than making it look like he was "doing something". Steve LaTourette was the one who re-crunched the numbers and had the clout to get the decision reversed. Likewise, if Steve was still in the majority or Lou Stokes was still in office. National City Bank doesn't get screwed over in the TARP deal. The fact is, the area won't miss Dennis much. It will miss Steve immensely. If everyone agreed with you they would all be wrong...

  13. Good to see someone served up Erocc's ignorant comment... Cleveland's urban scene gets a boost from young adults moving in CLEVELAND, Ohio -- New to Northeast Ohio in 2010, Rachael Ng rented an apartment across from the mall in Beachwood. But as she came to know her way around town, she quickly joined the migration path of her tribe. "I have a lot of friends who live downtown," explained Ng (pronounced "Ing"), a 27-year-old pharmacist for the Cleveland Clinic. "A lot of us hang out on Coventry, too. I wanted something in the center of all that." http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2013/01/clevelands_urban_scene_gets_a.html#incart_river_default

Hahahaha, you'd begin hyperventilating within seconds in a coastal state. An Ohio liberal can't even compare -- except maybe a few people hanging out in Yellow Springs. Your goalposts have been shifted to the right so much that I'd place liberal about at the opponent's 5 yard line, the minus 50 for centrist and somewhere in the spillover parking lot across the street for conservative. How do you explain Dennis Kucinich?

  18. Cleveland, OH, January 7, 2013 – Midwest healthcare companies attracted $996 million in new investments across 182 companies in 2012 according to the BioEnterprise Midwest Healthcare Venture Investment Report. The total dollars attracted is up by twenty-three percent from 2011. Ohio ($292 million), Minnesota ($165 million), and Illinois ($146 million) led Midwestern states in attracting investment dollars; Cleveland, Minneapolis, and Chicago were the leaders among Midwest regions. As with the rest of the country, Midwest healthcare investing fell dramatically in 2009 after strong years in 2007 and 2008, but it appears investors are again optimistic about Midwest deals. 2013 should be an interesting year to watch," said Aram Nerpouni, Interim President of BioEnterprise, the Cleveland biomedical accelerator. http://www.gcpartnership.com/Media-Center/GCP-Every-Monday/~/media/Files/Every%20Monday/MidwestHealthCareVentureReportYE2012PressReleaseFINALlinkstoreport_c99d.ashx

In a few years the only missing part to a Cav's championship run will be a (stud) small forward. Take that to the bank...

A lot of this LBJ coming back to Cle talk is coming from LeBron's people, not the Cav's front office. They're trying to rebuild his image locally so when/if he does return he comes back as a savior. Like ChiCleveKid said it will make for a good story esp if he wins a championship here. Me thinks LeBron leaving the way he did and "the return?" were already long in planning before the decision was even aired.

Cleveland Cavaliers looking to make a run for LeBron James in 2014, report says Could the NBA see a Cleveland Cavaliers and LeBron James reunion in the summer of 2014? Don't be surprised if the Cavs at least pursue LeBron if he becomes a free agent after next season, a report says. According to the Akron Beacon Journal's Jason Lloyd, the Cavs are positioning themselves to make a legitimate run at James in 2014. http://www.cleveland.com/cavs/index.ssf/2013/01/cleveland_cavaliers_looking_to.html#incart_river_default
