  1. GreenerPastures I like your energy but I caution you. You're starting to sound like a community organizer and that, according to the Republican party, could make you ineligible to become President of the United States. Unfortunately I'm no longer a resident, taxpayer, or voter in Cuyahoga county, yet I'm with you in spirit.
  2. MTS the torch has been passed and by now you should be burned to a crisp. :wink2:
  3. Nonsense... I'm a professional Jouster. This is why I came to Vegas; there was just no work in Cleveland for someone who enjoys riding on a horse and piercing others with my lance while my fans enjoy some roast mutton or turkey leg. Now we should get back on topic before MayDay steps in and shows us what can really be done with a lance or ax or whatever. :-D
  4. Don't you have a show to do at the Flamingo or something?!! That's good stuff... but seriously I do my show at the fabulous Excalibur!
  5. I like the concept, especially if they can finally get induction ceremonies and the Grammys. The design... thank you, none for me please. That is about as tacky and cheesy a design as I've ever seen, and I live in Las Vegas. Also ... Rockometer... really. Yes I know it's an early render and probably just a concept/vision but it must be struck down with furious anger before it gets a head of steam.
  6. Thanks MayDay, that is awesome. This shows how careful KPF was to take an unconventional design and make it work in such an important location. It was a rather large building with floor plates of nearly 26,000 SF from floors 28 on up (I have the floor plans) Again remember that much of this buildings height came from the fact that most of the lower floors were designed for the 484 room Hyatt Regency. I'll say it again, this is an idea whose time has come again with the development of the MM/CC. The problem of course, and thus the reason you aren't seeing any skyscraper proposals these days in Cleveland, is that convention hotel or not... skyscrapers require very, very, very large main tenants... none of which currently exist here. Without them it can be very challenging to fill (see BP Building, The). We could do it if we scrapped all the other developments coming on line, but I think we're doing things smarter right now spreading it out. That being said, that building sure does look purdy in that photoshopped pic, and I REALLY look forward to the day that a Cleveland Company takes off and their owners aren't asses who headquarter them 20 miles outside of downtown so we can see something like this actually happen. McCleveland I agree with most of what you say, but my point was to demonstrate what adding a hotel component to the Jacobs site could do for the overall height and design for any proposed building on that site. Just based on the 21 storey proposal that Jacobs/Hines recently released, if you add the hotel, the project could easily double in height. We already know that there is demand for a smaller tower why not add to it by having a mixed use product similar to what was proposed in the past. I don't want to turn this thread into a debate on the Jacobs property but IMO this site begs for a significant structure. No it doesn't have to be a supertall, but at least 500 ft. is appropriate. BTW Florida Guy... I love that shot!
  7. Thanks MayDay, that is awesome. This shows how careful KPF was to take an unconventional design and make it work in such an important location. 8. I agree, especially on the Superior side which I felt was completely uninviting. As far as the crown is concerned I'll admit I wasn't a fan , but it did grow on me. Like it or not it would of been one of those immediately recognizable towers identifying our city.
  9. Not only have you not been excessive, you've made some excellent points that should not be ignored. Please keep it up!
  10. Ask and ye shall receive. :-D
  11. ^ "and why can't Cleve expect what NYC is apparently getting, privately funded Med Mart." My best guess is that because the privately funded MM in NYC is being proposed for a site adjacent to an existing convention facility (Javitz Center) there is no need for a publicly funded CC. MMPI of Chicago is contributing 19 million but I'm unsure if that's towards the CC or the project as a whole. It's a question I've had for a while but answers don't seem to be coming from this newly "open and transparent process"
  12. This is what I believe is a non posted reminder of what was once proposed for the Jacobs PS site. This is the cover of the brochure for Ameritrust Center. It was, I was told, the final design. Keep in mind this included a 484 room Hyatt Regency an idea that should be revised considering that a new convention center will be 2 blocks away regardless of which of the final two sites is selected. (Thanks to whomever moved this for me) If anyone is interested I have several more scans of a variety of different angles.
  13. I remember as a child going to see things like; the Auto Show, Autorama, and Boat show, and all were held at the downtown convention center (dating myself). I'm not exactly sure why they stopped using the CC. MM has made it clear they need a modern convention facility. If we want the MM then we must make the investment. Should it turn out to be as high as you suggest, then it will simply take a little longer to get the return. This is about establishing Cleveland as a hub of the health care industry, if not the leading center, and that IMO should pay hefty dividends to the local economy.
  14. Welcome GreenerPastures! It was the same sort of suspicion of FCE's motives that got me to sign up and post for the first time right here in this thread. I remember reading the Ratner quote in you're 2nd post, along with another comment of his that suggested FCE would not invest in cities that were not experiencing population growth (I'm paraphrasing). How can you not question their motives.
  15. Sorry just using this thread to practice. If this works it should be the cover of the old Ameritrust Center brochure. Thanks for the tips all, looks like it worked.
  16. Grumpy I thought you had it. The tall grey building on the right, with what appears to be a cathedral of some kind at its base, is I believe the Banco Central de Bolivia (I looked it up)
  17. I'm sure that's correct, but I'll let UncleRando confirm. Get ready to post your next one. :strong:
  18. After reading all the other reviews, sounds to me like Jay may need another couple music appreciation classes. BTW thanks for posting KJP. The Cleveland Orchestra is certainly are greatest jewel.
  19. This is from their website - "WPC provides health technology vendors a dynamic environment and a state-of the-art technology platform to showcase their products and interact with decision makers and the broader healthcare industry." If they're housing the vendors that come up with new technologies, what's the difference where they display them; in their office or next door at Javitz? It seems to me that this is why the folks in Chicago want an adjoining convention facility. Don't know what to make of the numbers in the article, and it seems like this meeting did nothing to clarify which site should be chosen. BTW if they hold a public meeting in Vegas I'm there. :-D
  20. ^ "Have the plans changed and been integrated so that this buildling will host tradeshows as well?" From what I've read on their website it looks as if they'll have conference halls and the like, but keep in mind its right next to the Javitz Center so they could easily hold tradeshows there. Also the website says the building will be able to house up to 1,800 permanant companies including those selling medical devices, health technologies, diagnostic equipment, healthcare furnishings among others. Seems they don't need a MM across the street, they've got one inside.
  21. Stumbled across this today - http://www.worldproductcentre.com I knew that New York was persuing a medical mart of sorts but this looks like something on a much grander scale. Can anyone shed some light on whether or not this would compete directly with ours for permanent exhibitors and/or conventions? At first blush, it certainly does to me.
  22. They haven't even submitted the building's plans to design review. I appreciate you trying to get some new renderings MayDay, I'm sure we're all eager to see something more in line with what the final product will look like. Considering all the site prep going on you would think we're close to having something ready for design review. Does anyone have an approximate time frame for when it comes up for approval?
  23. ^Thank you much... Does this mean the eastern elevation of the Ernst Young building may be somewhat obscurred?
  24. ^Thanks for the update MayDay; BTW there are two brick buildings on the east end of this site, I'm guessing right where you snapped these shots, what if anything will become of them? In other words, are they in any way included in this project? Anyone with knowledge on this please feel free to answer even if it's been discussed before please.
  25. ^ That's quite an interesting rumor. My guess is folks around here are not to keen on rumors, but I would like to hear more about this. Can you reveal your source and/or its credibility?
