Forbes: America's Fastest Dying Cities
As someone who grew up around Dayton and now lives in Cincinnati, there is an unmistakable difference between the two cities. Downtown Dayton is dirty, boring, dying and nobody really takes it seriously and anything good about the region is located around 675. Cincinnati in general has a much more professional, big city feel to it that actually feels legit, whereas in Dayton it's completely fake. Cincinnati's core is expanding rapidly with countless projects going right now or in the planning stages. mrnyc - you say "if anything it's columbus that comes off unscathed here." are you implying that in some way this list has hurt cincinnati? that doesn't really make sense. you talk about a national perception of cincinnati like it has something to do with this topic. if, in fact, you're correct about cincinnati's national perception, i think it should be noted that its obviously changing since the city was left off of this list

Nice not seeing Cincinnati on a list like this for once, which is a good sign for sure

there wasn't one bit of negativity in that piece? i'm confused

Cincinnati: Downtown: Queen City Square
A buddy of mine in the construction business told me that he had heard a worker on QCS was drilling up some sidewalk recently when he noticed a crack, but didn't think much of it. So he continued cutting through the sidewalk and it collapsed down about 8 feet. So when they investigated it, they found a matrix of tunnels that weren't in any plan of the area and took everybody by surprise. So now they have to figure out where all the tunnels are bc apparently they wouldn't be able to sustain the weight of a crane - good thing they found them when they did. But sure to slow the project a little and add a bit of a cost

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
haha that is funny, but i applaud your effort. I don't have the facts on it, but I am fairly certain that the two levels of the parking garage will only go to street level, and not above. And from being down at the stadium and walking by, it looks like Freedom way is the street that will be expanded as the intersections have already been accounted for but you also have to keep in mind that when the park is developed Mehring Way is being relocated a bit farther north to expand the area near the river so that may have an effect on Theodore Berry Way.

Cincinnati: Clifton: Development and News
I am glad you pointed that out. Here is my streecar phase 2 plan with Ludlow included. Phase 3 to northside will be later. http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en&ie=UTF8&msa=0&msid=106516343889698696857.000445755f09d5300b21b&ll=39.126065,-84.520569&spn=0.052069,0.106602&z=13&om=0 While I do think it is important that Phase 2 of the street car get close to East Campus and perhaps the zoo, I don't think there is any way they don't bring it down the Calhoun/McMillan corridor and then in front of Main Campus on Clifton Ave on the way to Ludlow. There's just not enough on the Jefferson/MLK side of Campus to go that route and skip the S/W sides

Cincinnati: Downtown: Smale Riverfront Park
yeah it really should never have even come up

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
yeah what's the story with that? I've heard that they are under contract to have it brewed in Pennsylvania or somewhere for some amount of time before they can move anywhere. Anybody know the specs?

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
A Christian Moerlein Micro Brew would be beyond fantastic

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
I just walked by today on the way to the Reds proshop and to admire the work they've done there and with QCS, and it's pretty cool that projects of such magnitude are happening simultaneously in that close of proximity.... But anyways, I noticed that where Freedom Way would cross through the Banks, they did not clear away the dirt and growth. At both ends where the road would go through there is a slope of dirt with growth on it, but they cleared away everything else around the project. Anybody know why these spots were at least squared off?

Cincinnati: Madisonville: Stratford at Kenwood senior tower
thats a great webcam, very clear. shame they couldn't put one like that up for the banks instead of the 1988 model they have up there...

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
i was about to post a very cynical comment, but i'd rather just agree with you in that yes, that would be very cool.

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
i guess one way to look at it is atleast they didn't make all this in the sixties or seventies with all concrete buildings.... I think for me, and I am very into and very excited about this as are most people, when I saw the headline to see the new renderings I got really excited and started seeing conceptual designs in my own head that I thought they might try. the only way to describe my feelings after i saw them are, anti-climactic i guess. It's just like, woo-hoo, ho-hum. I don't think we should be saying, "o well, atleast its getting built." I was just expecting much much more i suppose. and I feel bad complaining bc i get so sick and tired of all the negativity from everyone

Cincinnati: Downtown: Fort Washington Way Cap
i totally agree with what someone said earlier in the post that this would be a great spot for a nice grocery store. Within walking distance to many condo buildings and its on the south side of downtown whereas the north side has the kroger on vine (not ideal, but it can only get better along with the neighborhood.) If the spot is a bit small, maybe consider a two-story grocery? Never seen it before myself, but everyone's always complaining that cincinnati has no innovative ideas. I think right now, the greening of the caps is just a rush-job idea to get it covered. What are some other ideas other than what kind of parks to make them?

Cincinnati Skywalks
i believe they are talking about the one that crosses 5th from the saks store and leads to the nothing with the parking lot across the street

Cincinnati: Downtown: Fort Washington Way Cap
i just watched news 5's coverage on it. same with every other story, it was pretty much lame and just flashed costs and dollar signs all over the screen. They didn't entirely bash on it, but I wouldn't say they helped out the public's perception or enthusiasm about the project. btw, hi guys. i've been reading for a while. it's nice to be informed, just never really had anything to say before now.

Broadway Commons: Light rail hub?
I'm not familiar with the Riverfront Transit Center. Is that what the stairs are leading down to along the sidewalk? The Light Rail discussion in the city occurred before I moved here, so I don't know too much about except that it was a huge mistake to vote it down. any further details I would appreciate

Broadway Commons: Light rail hub?
I know that several proposals for this site have been made and never panned out, such as the new Reds stadium and also some sort of slot machine casino. My thinking now is that with fuel prices as high as they are and with such horrible congestion on the highways leading to the suburbs, the light rail topic surely is going to gain more and more steam in the coming months. If/when the light rail is made, were there any spots in place for the downtown terminal for the trains coming into and leaving? What do you think of Broadway Commons possibly being used as the downtown station for the trains?
