Beachwood: New Eaton Headquarters
I'm not happy about this at all.. but it's not Dick Jacobs job to save Downtown Cleveland.. he's a business man in it to make money, not be a community activist. BINGO! Same can be said for the CEO of Eaton or mayor of Highland Hills. If Eaton decided to stay downtown, it would not be because he was interested in the well-being of Cleveland.

Beachwood: New Eaton Headquarters
What an idiotic cleveland.bomb comment. Care to tell me how my comment is idiotic rather than simply calling names, old chap? How is this idiotic? Its really not that far off. In the last week alone, the city has suffered two massive economic blows in the form of organizations jettisoning Cleveland for the far east suburbs. Cleveland isn't exactly attracting economic powerhouses to the city, so anytime it loses one (or, in this case, two) its devastating. And, to all those bashing Eaton or Beachwood/Orange/Warrensville/Highland Hills, get real. You have to remember that people are rational actors. The CEO is evaluated in part on how well he manages the corporations economic health. He is doing his job by making the most intelligent financial decision he can make. Similarly, the mayor of Beachwood/Orange/Warrensville/Highland Hills is doing his job in attempting to lure Eaton away from its current HQ. I don't think many of you would place the city above your family, your employees or your career if you were in the shoes of the Eaton CEO or the suburban mayor.

Regarding your point #1, I am fairly certain most of their employees drive now anyways. In fact, their commutes would most likely be shortened by a move to the eastern suburbs since most probably live in there. HUGE blow to the city. Last one out, shut off the lights.

That may be the ugliest structure I've ever laid eyes on. Not to mention the fact that it is completely ignorant of its environment and dominates the surroundings.

Cleveland: University Circle: Uptown (UARD)
Yeah, only a few people in all of Cleveland are educated and well read enough to know anything about design outside of Value City and IKEA. Additionally, it certainly is difficult to Google these things and learn about them in a matter of minutes.

No...that happens here? Hadn't noticed it. Rolls eyes. You can say anything you want on Urban Ohio so long as its not critical of Cleveland. Perhaps thats why the city is in the shape its in now...Clevelanders get ultra defensive whenever someone constructively criticizes the city.

You can't count on the average suburbanite coming downtown to eat at a chain restaurant every now and then to resuscitate downtown. A chain restaurant, by itself, will not do much to bring suburbanites downtown. And if the goal of Cleveland urban development is to bring suburbanites downtown, then you all are in trouble.

How is height the norm in the CBD?

What other rendering exists to critique? I see no problem with someone writing a review of the rendering that was released.

In the Cleveland/Midwest context: we do. Terminal Tower for about 50 or so years was the tallest building btw NYC and Chicago. More recently, Key Center held that distinction until Philly just opened the Comcast Center, earlier this year, that tops it... ... Key, Terminal Tower and BP are pretty darn tall to me... I am so happy to hear that they are "pretty darn tall" to you; however, nobody really cares what your definition of a super-tall building is. The definition of a supertall is as follows: a supertall is generally a completed structure that is at least 300 meters or 1000 feet tall. If a building is being proposed, it must be at least 1 kilometer tall to be classified as a supertall. http://www.allaboutskyscrapers.com/supertalls_megastructures.htm

Went to school in Pittsburgh. Beautiful downtown, beautiful and very dense and vibrant neighborhoods. Cleveland has a lot to learn from Pittsburgh in terms of streetlife and density.

Cleveland does not have any super-tall buildings.

YOUR post ignores economic principles. How could a Fortune 500 company such as Key have broken itself into multiple 10 story buildings? Nobody is saying build one 1200 foot tower and be done with it. However, when you select a premier site, you don't put an office park tower on it. Further, it doesnt matter if say 10,000 office employees are at one address on PS or scattered in 5 different locations within a quarter-mile radius of PS. Finally, Cleveland is small-time as a result of decisions to build small. It could take a step in the other direction by building bigger. Also, you fail to address my argument that the building is architectural dreck.

MTS, get off your high horse. I cannot believe nobody has called you on your arrogant attitude and self-righteous sentiment. In all seriousness, I tried to "ignore" you but I am not certain this forum has that feature. If not, your presence alone makes a compelling case for its inclusion. You are so contentious and LOVE to pick fights. Grow up and discuss the issues like a man. I will not go away "to Cleveland.com" simply because you don't like my opinion. Very glaring how you fail to counter my statement on the merits but instead ask me "why I am here?" I will not tote the company line on this dud and if it means I have to leave, then perhaps you are correct, I shouldn't be in a place that doesnt tolerate dissenting views and the open exchange of opinions. I don't think it requires Dubai-caliber money to build to 700 feet. In fact, Chicago currently has something like 7 towers over 700 feet going up right now. And aren't you guilty of "spending other people's money" too when you tell me that it costs too much?
