Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
I like how the design brightens up the area, but: I think the exhibit halls should be column-free. The medical mart is nice, but kind of small, resembles the Knight Center in Akron.

I think that whichever site is chosen, any nearby hotels should be connected to the CC/MM. That's the standard for cities today. In general, Cleveland could do a number of things to make downtown more pedestrian friendly year-round (more taxis, arcades, public transit, etc.)

Cleveland: Immigration News & Discussion
According to that data, the Cleveland MSA is on pace to have foreign-born in migration of 40,000+ this decade, as opposed to 32,265 in the 90's. An increase of about 32% seems good.

The walkways idea, as far as that proposal goes, is poor, imo. The new version of the convention center at TC, while preliminary, seems OK to me, but its hard to see if that layout will afford enough exhibit/meeting space. I really hope that more public meetings are held, and planners are included in the process before the final decision is made.

Actually, the TC site appears to be larger than some other successful centers, so with the right design, this could be a pretty good investment.

I hope the new complex will have rooftop forests and photovoltaic cells.

So, Tower City is officially the recommended site: http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2008/08/tower_city_site_the_recommenda.html Additionally, here is the Crain's link: http://www.crainscleveland.com/article/20080807/FREE/72737101/1022

Who is the panel making the recommendation, and who makes the final decision? Isn't it the GCP and County Commissioners?
-
Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
The Tower City location is pretty small for a convention center, so that knocks the cost down a bit, since the complex would be smaller than the current location.

Cleveland: Opportunity Corridor Boulevard
I like this idea, but I wonder how much investment it will encourage; as well as if the transit lines nearby will be upgraded.

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
If the complex is built at the Mall, it would have to be partially underground, in order to accomodate large exhibit halls.

$400 million for a convention center seems reasonable enough these days. The question is will it be used enough to justify the construction?

Cleveland: Cleveland State University: Development and News
My guess is that it is in the works, could happen after the current projects are completed.

Cleveland: Filling in Euclid Avenue
There is a lot of space there for the mart, and street level retail could go on the ground floor.

Cleveland: Filling in Euclid Avenue
I've been holding out with the faintest hopes that the May Co. Building was going to be the location of the med mart. I envisioned Beautiful store front windows on Euclid displaying different furniture, medical devices, etc... a bustling economic driver right on euclid... That would be nice!
