  1. I know you one of you would come up with the lame out-migration argument. These clubs have been around since the late 70's. A lot of the members have never lived in Cleveland. My great uncle in Alabama is a Browns fans because he loved Jim Brown. All of his children are Browns fans. None of them have ever lived in Cleveland. Why does this have to turn into a city versus city argument? I didn't mention anything about population estimates or out-migration numbers. I was talking a team's fan base. You obviously couldn't find evidence to show the Bengals have a large following so you throw out a snarky out-migration argument...lmao!
  2. This is a silly argument...but I will indulge. There is no doubt the Browns have much larger following than the Bengals. The Bengals don't have much of a following outside Cincinnati's metro area. There are roughly 300 Browns Backers Clubs totaling 80,000 members. There are Browns Backers in almost every major city. A lot of these backers make annual trips to Cleveland to support the Browns. There are a Browns Backers in Central Germany, Calgary, Portland, ME, Honolulu, Missoula, MT, North Winnipeg, Taipei...just to name a few. Either way, both teams suck and the Bengals dominated yesterday’s game, but there is no arguing who has the larger and more loyal fan base. http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/2010/07/post_25.html (Browns Backers article)

This is from Crains.... "Wall Street Journal's best-seller lists include separate charts with sales in various metro areas, and this week's focus is on Cleveland and Cincinnati. Both cities have the same top two books: “Decision Points” by former President George W. Bush and “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Ugly Truth” by current President Barack Obama. (Joking: That one's by Jeff Kinney.)There's a lot of overlap, but one thing is clear: Our neighbors to the south certainly have more conservative tastes in political books. In Cincinnati, Sarah Palin's “America by Heart: Reflections on Family, Faith, and Flag,” and Glenn Beck's “Broke” are at No. 4 and No. 6, respectively, though neither makes the top 10 in Cleveland. By contrast, “Daily Show” host Jon Stewart's “Earth (The Book)” is No. 8 in Cleveland, but it's not on the Cincinnati list." http://www.crainscleveland.com/article/20101217/BLOGS03/101219845
  4. I should be thankful...most adults I talk to have trouble sleeping. I rarely have trouble falling asleep. I sleep through the night almost every night. I usually go to bed around 12 and get up around 7.

Cleveland has 99 problems, LeBron James isn't one of them: Phillip Morris Can we please now get over this collective nervous breakdown? Can we stop stabbing pins into voodoo dolls? Can we self-medicate? Better yet, is there someone out there who can slap us back into reality the way Cher slapped Nicholas Cage in Moonstruck, or the way Kurt Russell used an open palm to get the attention of Billy Bob Thornton in Tombstone. I think the answer is obvious. He's a convenient scapegoat. It's not easy to properly channel decades of seething anger that is stoked by massive job loss, epic forecloses, unbridled public corruption, failing schools, rampant crime and a diminished standard of living." http://www.cleveland.com/morris/index.ssf/2010/12/cleveland_has_99_problems_lebr.html Yeah, Phill...that's why we hate Lebron. Where have been over the last seven years? Did you see the "The Decision"?

^I also have a J.D....I was just debating whether a J.D. is a doctoral degree with a couple coworkers.

I'm really excited about the season. Hopefully, we can move past the Decision. I'm getting tired of talking about it. Good Morning America spent five minutes talking about LeBron's new commercial this morning. Of course, D.L. Hughley had to make a few stale Cleveland jokes before making his point. This is why I'm ready to move on.
  9. I've been on this forum long enough to know if something happens it will be posted. However, I haven't heard anything about the casino in months. I've seen renderings of the Cincinnati casino, but there has been nothing written about the Cleveland casino in months...just a random thought.
  10. Atlanta is the black mecca for young professionals. I was hanging out with a few friends last weekend and they spent the whole evening talking about how they want to move to Atlanta. Just about every black professional I know either wants to move to Atlanta (D.C. is now a close second) or has lived in Atlanta. It's the land of milk and honey for black professionals. It annoys me a little because until they move to Atlanta they constantly complain how much they hate the Midwest. Most of them refuse to explore the city they currently live in. One of my friends recently told me Cleveland doesn't have any good restaurants and that he loves the restaurant scene in Atlanta. A lot of these young professionals love Atlanta because of its "upscale" black club scene. The city does offer a lot clubs and lounges that cater to young black professionals. I get a few texts a month from one of my friends in Atlanta telling me he just saw a famous rapper or actor at some club. I send my usual “That’s cool” reply. At some point, you would think some of these people would get tired of going to clubs. I'm in my late twenties and I hate that kind of scene.
  11. It seems like places like Phoenix and Charlotte are cool because we're told they're cool by the media. Many of my friends moved to these "cool" cities without ever visiting or having a job. It's like hanging out with the cool kids in high school. I just talked to a girl who wants to get into PR. She is all about moving to Atlanta. I asked if she applied for PR jobs and other cities and she told me she only wants to live in Atlanta. She turned down a decent PR job in Indianapolis. She told me she would rather be broke in Atlanta than having a good job in the Midwest. I just looked at her with a blank stare.
  12. There may be a deeper issue here. It just seems like the racial undertones have increased over the last year. Again, this is just my opinion, but it feels like this is becoming a problem in a lot of places. I know St. Louis is dealing with similar problems. I have a couple friends from Buffalo who have told me there have been incidents. My wife was in the Arena District with some girlfriends a couple weeks ago and two punks dropped the n-word on her (thank God I wasn't there). I hope the Mayor gets on top of this before this becomes too big to handle.
  13. I probably shouldn't have read the comments. However, it never ceases to amaze me the hate some cleveland.com posters have for the city. According these idiots, the survey is unreliable (true to a certain degree) and Cleveland sucks. The same posters will take a Forbes list and run with it. I've seen positive stories with no comments. It's like these people wait for a negative story. If these people hate the city so much, why do they spend time on cleveland.com making dumb comments?
  14. ^I know where this is going...lol
  15. ^This is getting really old. Instead of eulogizing two interesting individuals, he decided to take a jab at Cleveland.
  16. ^Both. The amount of indifference our clients display is unreal. Most of them think it's a big joke until sentencing rolls around.
  17. ^Agree...I work in criminal defense and most of our clients can't remember their court dates.

"Norman Krumholz, a city planning commissioner and urban studies professor at Cleveland State University, was Cleveland’s chief city planner in the 1970s, when Public Square was last renovated. Building a hill over Superior and Ontario is “crazy,” and all three proposals are “extravagant,” Krumholz says. He’s not convinced a major renovation of Public Square is appropriate. The problem with Public Square is the problem with the city: a falling population, a very poor population,” Krumholz says. “Parks and recreation probably have a much, much lower priority in a city that’s struggling on a day-to-day basis to make it through the day.” Norman Krumholz misses the point. His attitude is part of the reason Cleveland has fallen behind.

Browns Stadium is the 9th largest stadium in the NFL at 73,200. This means the Browns averaged almost 69,000 fans per game in 2009. 14 of the league's 31 stadiums hold less than 69,000.

The Pittsburgh Metro area is roughly 2.35 million people. Cleveland-Akron cmsa is roughly 2.8 million. Throw in Canton and you're over three million. You can split Youngstown between Cleveland and Pittsburgh. Yes, Cleveland is probably the smallest market with the Big Three; however, NHL arenas are the same size as NBA arenas and the average ticket prices are the same at about $49. So, I think it's safe to say comparing a city with an NHL franchise versus a NBA franchise is pretty fair. In my opinion, TV market size is a better determination of a city's fanbase. Cleveland-Akron is the 18th largest TV market with 1,520,750 million TVs. Pittsburgh is the 22nd largest with 1,154,000 million TVs...pretty big difference. Tampa has already surpassed in terms of TV market size. Also, Cleveland is quite a bit larger than St. Louis, another city with three pro teams.

This whole Lebron free agency talk has gotten out of hand. I'm a huge Cavs/NBA fan, but let's put this in perspective. It's just basketball...it really isn't that important. I'm getting tired of everybody dumping on the region. It's getting really old. If I see one more piece telling me how great "X"city is and how bad Cleveland is, I'm going to scream. ESPN has had an anti-Cleveland agenda since the Cavs drafted Lebron. I have yet to see a "Kevin Durant to a big market" story. Why is that? Kevin Durant is arguably the third best payer in the league playing in a market half the size of Cleveland and not one pundit has suggested he should leave for the "bright lights." Call me sensitive...but there has been a lot nasty things said about the city/region.

This is from ESPN beat writer Chris Sheridan. He was responding to a question about Noah's comment during his weekly chat. Chris Sheridan (3:19 PM) "No. And I also disagree with Noah's assessment of Cleveland. There are worse NBA cities to be stuck in for four days, trust me. Just need to know where to go in Cleveland. (Example: Best Vietnamese food I've ever had, except for in NY's Chinatown, was in Cleveland.)"

^Joakim Noah may take exception to that statement...."“I don't know about Cleveland, man," Noah moaned. "There's nothing going on. It's bad, man. It's bad." This is from the Bulls' beat writer (looks like we have some haters): "The suburbs are like any suburbs anywhere, comfortable with nice homes and two of every fast food place on every block. But since both the baseball stadium and basketball arena are downtown, the teams stay there and there is no more depressing center city anywhere. Among the 30 NBA stops, this always is my least favorite with barely a decent restaurant anywhere downtown, little retail and a gloomy, scary stretch of streets that are deserted once it gets dark." http://blogs.bulls.com/chicago_bulls...n-garnett.html
  24. This is going to be a problem for a lot of teams. Camden Yards Posts Lowest Ever Attendance 9,129. That is how many fans were in attendance last night at Camden Yards. Some fans will be appalled that the team didn’t get better support- many of these same fans were also at home for one reason or another. http://baltimoresportsreport.com/2010/04/13/camden-yards-posts-lowest-ever-attendance/
