Also a skatepark! Seems to be the 2nd most used feature next to the basketball courts Been playing tennis the past few days. Really great improvement. The new playground and water park feature seems to be a hit with the kids, and the last night all the basketball courts were filled and there was a pickup softball game being played. Tennis courts are very nice, just wish they would have put lights on them so we could play in the fall and spring, but it's understandable why they didn't from a management and cost perspective.

Ann Arbor?
For lunch or even dinner I would hit up frita bantidos. It's a restaurant run by eve aronoff who was on top chef season 6 http://fritabatidos.com/. fast casual style (order first at counter then sit and they bring it out to you) also sells alcohol.

Credit Unions in Cleveland
some credit unions allow you to join just based on where you live. just based off of a 'cuyahoga county credit unions' there is at least 1 where the only parameter is being a resident of the county: https://www.taleriscu.org/about/index.htm now, for me, if i were to join a credit union i would make sure it is part of the 'shared branching network' (taleris is not, but Ohio Education Credit Union is) http://www.cuservicecenter.com/ it's a way for credit unions to band together to allow deposits and w/d at other credit union branches, and also free atm transitions. basically it takes your little credit union and manages to make it a nationwide bank.

Cleveland: Jack Cleveland Casino
this is starting to be less and less true. Sure at peak times they might take the minimum up to $25, but last night there were 2 $15 black jack tables and 3 $15 craps tables at 9:30 when I left. The 2 - $15 tables were full with people waiting to pay, but the $25 tables had maybe 1-3 seats open.

Went to the casino yesterday around 6:00. There was no line at any of the street level entrances, so we stopped in. Places was packed on the inside, it felt crowded, and the machines and tables are squeezed into every available location. Ended up grabbing a burger at b spot. We wanted to see how tower city was pedestrian wise so we exited downstairs and found that they were queuing up people down there to be let in even though there were no lines upstairs. Also for 7pm the buffet was about 40-50% full with no line. Good for a Tuesday I'm sure, but wonder how it will be 3-6 months from now. Tower city had a good amount of traffic, but the majority of the shops were closed, looking forward to the new hours. After exploring downtown more and grabbing some drinks at greenhouse we came back for the 9:30 showing of the light show. It was interesting, but as you can see by the pic attached, 2 lights were left on so that messed with the effects.

You seems to be right. Some strategic googling led me to find the owner as of 2010 is shawn heineman who's wife is nika McNulty, who's is probably related to Sam.

Mcnultys on Coventry closed for good this weekend. According to their twitter it was not due to money, they decided to not renew the lease. Sam is putting all his chips on w. 25th for real now.

No, service ends at 2:30am just like everyone else, and they are actually barred from giving out free drinks "The Ohio chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving was among groups that pushed for strict alcohol standards at Ohio casinos. The law, signed by Gov. Ted Strickland on Thursday, bans both free drinks and 24-hour liquor sales at casinos, stopping them at 2:30 a.m., the same as bars." http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/37692840/ns/us_news-life/t/free-cocktails-dying-call-casinos/

I already contacted the streets department asking if they knew of any permits allowing someone to affix signage to a public walkway. They transferred me to the permits department where I had to leave a message. I am going to call OCI on my way home today to see if they can shed any more light.

Non profit or not they shouldn't be allowed to deface public property. Just because you are "local" doesn't give you exemption rights of a law. Also, I can almost guarantee you that once the event is over, whoever put them down wont come back around with something to scrape them off, it'll be left for the new ambassadors to clean up after them. If they wanted to promote it in conjunction with local businesses, they could have done window stickers.
-
Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
actually, it's graffiti, as the side walk in which they are placed is public property. this has been addressed in other cities as well, and the advertisers lose. http://www.nytimes.com/2011/07/15/nyregion/sony-removes-sidewalk-ads-called-illegal-in-new-york.html

Has anyone else noticed the 'fashion week cleveland' stickers EVERYWHERE on the sidewalk around w 25th? I find it highly disturbing that they allow this type of rouge advertising all over the general area on PUBLIC property. I asked an ambassador if they had any plans on removing them, and he said he didn't know and would talk with his boss.

Hiring movers for Columbus to Cleveland
I accepted a job in cleveland (have lived there before) and will be hiring movers to take the majority of my stuff to storage (was thinking the clark and w 60 th self storage) as I will be living with a friend in ohio city until I find my own place probably on the summer. I was wondering if anyone could refer me to a reputable moving company. I put in for a quote on moving.com, but only 1 company came up. I will need full service movers (but I will pack) because I won't have time to do it myself. Thanks for any help!!

The Official *I Love Cleveland* Thread
i was laid off at nat city/pnc recently and it was really hard to find a job in cleveland, so i had to move to columbus where i did find a new job before my layoff date at pnc. i lived in cleveland for 4 years in coventry and ohio city. i explored the city on foot, bike, public transit and car. i am really really going to miss the city and all it has to offer. i'll miss walking to the westside market on saturday mornings. i will miss going to lolita at happy hour. i will miss taking my dog to the tremont dog park and dropping him off at the mutt hutt before work knowing he was going to have a great day. i will miss walking around in the flats on a saturday afternoon and it feeling like no one is around for miles. i'll really miss my daily walks around ohio city with my dog and all the random people i ran across every day who remembered me and would say hello. i'll miss riding my bike to voinovich park in the summer and watching the boats sail by. i'll miss going to sun luck garden and the wonderful food and service. i'll miss trudging through the snow from my apt to la cave du vine on a tuesday night. i'll miss sitting outside at great lakes on the patio. i'll miss having a viable public transit option to get around the city. i could go on forever. i may have only lived there for 4 years, but i feel like cleveland is a part of me, and i will really really miss it and plan on moving back as soon as i can.

That's fine, but the LAST thing they should have done given that situation was expand the seating! So now you have 3x as many customers, and can still only produce a few sandwiches at a time. Instead of, say, 40 people being hungry and waiting, you now have 100. How is this the smart thing to do? I don't know. i've been there about 40 times (no joke, i've got the 5 gift certs from the big cheese club to prove it) and i can only count maybe a handful of times they have the expanded area open. the majority of the time it is used as a waiting area. i don't think i've ever been there when the patio, original dining room and expanded dining room is open.
-
Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
the reason the wait is so long at melt is that when they expanded the restaurant they couldn't expand the kitchen because if they expanded the kitchen they would have had to put it a larger sprinkler system. the line going from street to that building wouldn't be equipped to handle such a large load, and digging up detroit to run a new line was not in the budget, so they kept the original kitchen. it's not that the sandwiches are complex, it's that they can only make i think 8 at a time. on another note, i just walked my dog by the new market street brewery. they have completely gutted the building. literally there is only the outside walls left. a worker was out back getting some equipment and i asked him when they expected to open and he said the original date was supposed to be july 4th weekend, but they are way behind and he doesn't see that happening.

i live in ohio city, it's a 35 min drive there. my point was that usually one would say "needless to say I won't be back" after giving a negative review. In your case, you just said "I went to Bar Symon". So it would be needful for you to say that you won't be back, because we wouldn't assume that. i'm sorry that the sentence structure impeded your ability to comprehend my statement. next time i'll be sure to run it by my in house editor before i string a set of sentences off cuff right when i get home from work. on another note: i went to ohio city burrito yesterday and it was wonderful. the burrito's are $6.15 for chicken, barbacoa or carnitas (no steak available). they've only been open since this past monday so they are a bit slow on the service as they are still training new employees, but i suspect this will be a great addition to the neighborhood. i'll be going there instead of driving down to steel yard anytime i need gourmet mexican fast food fix.
