  1. My favorite stat for pitchers is WHIP. In his 5 wins with the 3.60 ERA, his WHIP is 1.60, which is pretty bad. It looks much worse than the 3.60 ERA would let you believe. If there's a big disparity between WHIP and ERA, he's always working out of jams and getting "lucky". And almost 7 BB/9 is awful. It's a miracle he has 5 wins.
  2. I wonder if he has any options left to the minors. If he gets shelled again, I think they have to send him down. He's not even giving them a chance to win. Zach McAllister was pitching great while Tomlin was out. 3.96 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, 7.9 K/9. Fans don't always give this front office its dues (Chris Perez for Mark DeRosa, Astrubal Cabrera for Eduardo Perez, Shin-soo Choo for Ben Broussard), but they will never escape this trade if White or Pomeranz amount to anything at all.
  3. ^To each his own I guess. I love that mural of the leggy girl. And I went to Barrio twice last weekend, good drink menu and a build your own taco/burrito place. Service wasn't great, but I'd have to believe they get that under control. I'll be back next time I come up.
  4. I'm sure someone has covered this already, but I always assumed May 14th was a Friday or Saturday. I checked the calender earlier this week and it's a Monday. Have they (Gilbert/Caesars) given any reason why they wouldn't do a Grand Opening Extravaganza on the weekend? It seems a little strange to open on a Monday. Maybe to be sure there's no bumps on the first few days?
  5. ^ I love that response. Why play right into what the media wants? They'll constantly speculate with a bunch of what-if, coulda shoulda. He's completely right, what does it matter in the end? They didn't need to make the decision, so they went with Weeden. I think it was telling that the pick was in immediately from the Browns, they knew what the were doing. H&H would have to be the most unprepared FO in the league if the drafting of Wright sent their board into complete disarray, like Shefter would have you think.
  6. FWIW... Steve Smith - 4.39 40/38.5" vertical/ 5'9"/185lbs. Travis Benjamin - 4.36 40/38" vertical/5'10"/172lbs Maybe he can bulk to 180lbs. Go Browns!
  7. ^ He can jump like a grasshopper. Only 1 1/2 " less the the freak that is Stephen Hill. But it sounds like he's brought in exclusively to burn down the middle of the field. Has a tough time getting off the line when being bumped and working in the middle of the field, since he's all of 170 lbs.
  8. I try my best to stay positive with Browns. I was fine trading up for Trent and grabbing Wedden. I was good with getting Schwartz to fille a major need at RT. But John Hughes, the DT from Cincinnati is mind-boggling. I was just looking around and saw him the 38th ranked DT and 534th overall. Wait, what? But we draft at 87. The front office just thinks they are so much smarter than 31 other teams in the league sometimes. It's very irritating.
  9. And Hill vs. Randle... I just want a guy to burn down the middle of the field past the coverage like Mike Wallace. If they both can (Hill ran a better 40 than Randle at the combine), I'm fine with either. I think the Browns are sitting pretty to start the 2nd round to fill the WR or OT need.
  10. I'm glad they actual went and did something. Traded to get their guy in Trent and the bold (ballsy?) pick in Weeden. Colt had plenty of time to prove himself here. I actually think he got worse in his time here. And it's not like teams are falling over themselves to pick him up to be their BACKUP quarterback. He's a backup on 30 of 32 teams in the league. The Browns are much better today vs 24 hrs ago.
  11. Would love Stephen Hill now. Play action Trent with 8 in the box, fade to Hill. Touchdown Browns!!! Go get him!
  12. I can't believe how much flak the Browns are taking for the Weeden pick. You'd think the city was burning to the ground. Don't lynch the front office until we see how the kid does. This notion that he'll only be a started for 5 or 6 years.... the Browns have NEVER had that much consistency at QB since they returned!!! 2011 Colt McCoy (13) / Seneca Wallace (3) 2010 Colt McCoy ( 8 ) / Jake Delhomme (4) / Seneca Wallace (4) 2009 Brady Quinn (9) / Derek Anderson (7) 2008 Derek Anderson (9) / Brady Quinn (3) / Ken Dorsey (3) / Bruce Gradkowski (1) 2007 Derek Anderson (15) / Charlie Frye (1) 2006 Charlie Frye (13) / Derek Anderson (3) 2005 Trent Dilfer (11) / Charlie Frye (5) 2004 Jeff Garcia (10) / Kelly Holcomb (2) / Luke McCown (4) 2003 Kelly Holcomb ( 8 ) / Tim Couch ( 8 ) 2002 Tim Couch (14) / Kelly Holcomb (2) 2001 Tim Couch (16) 2000 Doug Pederson ( 8 ) / Tim Couch (7) / Spergon Wynn (1) 1999 Tim Couch (14) / Ty Detmer (2) Ugly, ugly, ugly. I'm excited for the prospect. Now grab a WR today and a value RT tomorrow and see a completely different offense next year. FWIW... Age at first NFL season: Kurt Warner - 28, Roger Staubach - 27. Just sayin'.
  13. 4: Trent Richardson - ALABAMA 22: Jonathan Martin -STANFORD 37: Alshon Jeffrey - SOUTH CAROLINA (the dude was a stud last year but was really hurt by a bum QB that got kicked off the team and a beast RB that went down with a torn ACL)
  14. I'm not sure where the discrepancy is, but Baseball Reference has $67M. http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/CLE/2012-roster.shtml I'm assuming that has something to do with the $10M Atlanta is paying of Derek Lowe's contract. I won't get on them for saving that money though. All I'm saying is $67M/$78M isn't really "going for it" in your window. Though I do like signing Santana and Cabrera to extensions. That's what the 90s teams did so well, signed their young talent early. The Indians have just been burned using that same approach recently. The two guys they do decide to risk and sign long term don't turn out to be worth it, with Hafner being hurt or not producing and Grady being hurt. Also Fausto/Roberto got an extension, but was erratic after it. Teams like Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Minny and Oakland just can't afford to miss on long team deals like that. But hell, they just swept the Royals. Maybe Shapiro/Antonetti are actually geniuses.
  15. Right, but up from what? $47 million is a near pathetic figure to spend on salary for a Major League baseball team. I'm not saying $100+, but at least around the middle of the pack for the league. And if this is the "window" why not spend to win in 2012-14? It's half-a$$, which is what this franchise has been since Hart left. I can go on forever on that topic, but how great was that game last night? Choo and Hanahan getting in the middle of that melee and Choo getting redemption in the 10th. High drama baseball, and they face the Royals another 17 times or something crazy. Fun.
  16. So I'm just casually checking out the MLB OPS (Onbase plus Slugging, my favorite stat out there) leaders for this year and felt like a small vent. Notice 1 and 2, Willingham and Pena, two Free Agents that escaped the Tribe due to "financial restrictions", leading the pack. Scroll down a bit to see 8 and 10, Cespedes and Beltran, another two missed Free Agent signings. I don't get on the Dolans as much as some for not spending money (except on man-of-glass Sizemore and his band-aid, Johnny Damon) but this just made be scream..... COME ON!!! :drunk: And I'm done. 1 Josh Willingham MIN 22 5 9 1 0 4 7 0 0 1 5 .409 .458 1.000 1.458 2 Carlos Pena TB 25 5 10 2 0 3 8 0 0 4 7 .400 .516 .840 1.356 3 Chris Young ARI 22 4 8 3 0 3 7 0 0 2 4 .364 .440 .909 1.349 4 Ian Kinsler TEX 27 9 10 3 1 3 6 1 2 4 2 .370 .452 .889 1.341 5 Omar Infante MIA 25 7 9 3 1 3 4 0 0 1 1 .360 .385 .920 1.305 6 Alex Avila DET 22 6 8 1 1 2 6 1 0 3 5 .364 .440 .773 1.213 7 Miguel Cabrera DET 24 7 8 1 0 3 9 0 0 6 3 .333 .452 .750 1.202 8 Yoenis Cespedes OAK 22 5 6 2 0 3 7 1 0 3 11 .273 .429 .773 1.201 9 Lance Berkman STL 16 5 6 2 1 0 1 0 0 6 4 .375 .565 .625 1.190 10 Carlos Beltran STL 27 6 10 0 0 3 4 1 1 4 7 .370 .452 .704 1.155 EDIT: I know it's early and it's a long season, but still.
  17. Love the additional of Ken Stewart's! And check out that boardwalk.
  18. I always thought a variety of national flags on those flagposts would look awesome. Are they going to be the horseshoe flags from the renderings?

What an amazing project. I had a chance to play here in Middle School and even then I understood the history and tradition of the ballpark. I still get a little bitter when I think about the great neighborhood ballparks like League Park still standing, Fenway and Wrigley, but this makes me feel much better. I just imagine weekend travel league tournaments starring teams from all over Ohio/Midwest taking in this jewel of a park!
  20. Why pick one of your brightest neighborhoods for this project? Put it somewhere else. There is plenty of unused/vacant/abandoned areas in the CLE.
  21. I'd like to see "Cleveland" in there.

I'm a huge Mad Men fan. My fiance and I watched all the Seasons 1-4 and finished the Saturday before the premiere. I think the duality of the characters is so intriguing. It's nearly impossible to get a grasp on who is a "good guy" or "bad guy" and that perception changes week to week. Sterling just kills me with his one liners.
  23. ^ Great point. Need a lot of money down and great credit to buy a house today. This may be a double edged sword though if Cleveland wants to move from apartment to condo residences down the road. They are that much harder to get financed. But by this time this could be a problem, I'm sure America will forget about this hiccup of the last 5 years and loosen them lending standards once more.
  24. That actually doesn't look as bad in the new renderings. I think the windows will help a lot.
