  1. And sorry for the cleveland.bomb comment, but I'm pissed, and I think a lot of people around here are starting to feel/have felt the same way. It's just never ending. This could be a huge positive for our city and it just keeps getting dragged on and on. LET'S GO.
  2. Easy Hagan. Gilbert has invested millions in our city (Quicken Loans, Cavs, Monsters) unlike FCE. You can't just go around spouting your mouth yelling at everyone that gets in your way. Very childish response from him, but they've all looked like children lately. I'm about to break, and I really doubt this ever gets built. MMPI will back out, I don't know how they've lasted this long, but I guess the have a lot of costs put in already. I would just be absolutely livid about the snails pace and snags that go along with it. It makes us all look like clowns, leading anyone else who ever want to do business here to steer as clear of this mismanagement and infighting as humanly possible. It's really a shame.

I thought they'd play for a half to keep them fresh. But there is absolutely NO reason to play any of those guys tonight. Who buys a ticket to the last game of the regular season anyway? Save the cash for the playoff tickets. Good call Mike. Bring us a championship.
  4. So the Boston Marathon is this coming Monday, April 20th. I know because I'm going up there to watch my dad run in it. Anyone else a machine and taking on that bad boy this weekend? I've never been to the home of the beaneaters, but I hear it's a nice city. I'm actually more excited to wear Cavs gear to the bars to watch the first round of the playoffs than actually see the city. :-D
  5. And about analysts, I find market analysts, specifically portfolio managers, to be a joke of a profession (a six figure joke of a profession). Yes, the world needs financial advisers, simply because people don't know what to do with their money for their unique financial goals. But after reading Malkiel's Random Walk, there's no reason to believe that portfolio managers, driven purely by market returns, will ever outsmart the well-oiled market.
  6. I agree. I don't think we've seen the worst yet. We can't begin to turn around this year or next. I just don't have faith that a turn around is going to happen. I thought we proved in the dotcom boom of the 90s that that kind of day trading can't possible be feasible in the long run. The costs of running in and out of the market like that will not outweigh the gains without significant luck. If you're going to buy at the trough, do it, and keep it. You bought at the trough for a reason. These financial analysts at Morgan Stanley, BofA, and that independent entity formerly known as Merrill can't beat the market. There's no reason to believe that we can. If they have, it's from taking significant risks in derivatives, risks entirely more dangerous than that of the market. And this simply isn't sustainable.
  7. They played a good game, but you don't "deserve" anything in sports, you earn it. And they couldn't finish the deal.. 2 goal lead with a minute left, championship teams finish, and Miami didn't. It was a great run, but they were beat by a better team. Miami skated for 59 minutes as the better team and deserved to win the game. Do not get me started on the 2 garbage goals (1 and 4) that Boston fell into. There was no skill attributed to either goal. A lucky carom off a Miami defensemen for both. Can you equally tell me Boston deserved to win that game? No, they were lucky, and anyone on either team knows it.
  8. The silence in the bars down here tonight was something I will never forget. The guys deserved to win. Heartbreaking.
  9. GO HAWKS/SKINS! They actually play in the CCHA, with the likes of Notre Dame, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, BGSU and others. Real tough division. Should be fun to watch down here tonight. Their coach, Enrico Blasi, really built up a great program. This is supposed to be a "rebuilding" year, so it's been a hell of a season for being a rebuilding season. They've acquired the nickname of "The Brotherhood" and are really the only sports team that ever matters here. First time a Miami team has ever been in a championship game in any sport, which is absolutely amazing to me. CAN'T WAIT! GO MIAMI!!
  10. I had the chance to meet Chris when he came down to speak about urban development here at Miami. In talking with him for mere minutes about our mutual passion for Cleveland, I could tell he genuinely loves the city and would do anything he could to bring it back to greatness. He has had vision in building up University Circle Inc and could translate those intangibles to the mayoral post.
  11. God, I hope so. Could you imagine this city then? I was at Game 6 against Detroit too, and I've never felt a better atmosphere then then. I envision throwing two pitchers in the air simultaneously at Harry Buffalo's as Lebron heaves the ball into Loudville and the curtain drops on Kobe and Lakers.
  12. As we all know, Cleveland's worst enemy at times are it's people. Some people, though not a majority, have this constant negativity to anything positive momentum this city gets. Cleveland.bomb. A city of losers in a loser city kind of deal. I've heard at least a couple times from college friends that they expected a lot worse from the city for how many bad things they heard from people from the area. So is it possible that a championship team in Cleveland (not naming names, I'm pretty superstitious) could turn this attitude around? It's something I've thought about for a while now, and I think it seems logical. This city is crazy for a championship. We all know it's been 45 years and counting. Cleveland has to have some of the best fans on the map, not only for the "King of the Town" Cleveland Browns, but the Tribe and Cavs get tons of love, too. I think a championship could do this sports town a bunch of good, but not for anything all that tangible. It's the intangible aspect that could be most affected. This self-loathing, "we always lose" mentality would have no backing all of a sudden. The cynics could no longer talk about curses or all-stars leaving, etc, etc. Maybe that winning in sports, one of Clevelanders' biggest passions, could translate in winning in other endeavors. It may sound crazy, but I think it has some merit and really want to know what anyone else thinks about it.
  13. I totaly agree! W, Klimpton, Palomar, Swissotel or Loews hotels would be perfect at that property. Pricey, yes, but do to the location & historic nature of the building, you'll need a smaller unique property. All of those brands play to the types of people who eat, dine, live and visit East 4th street. Isn't that kind of what the Hotel Indigo was trying to do in the Ameritrust building? I'm no hotel connoisseur, but Hotel Indigo doesn't seem like your average Marriott, Ritz or Hilton chain. I mean the interest is there, but that redevelopment stalled with the economy/corruption allegations. But that's a conversation for another thread.

There, their and they're. You're and your.
  15. There is no pick in the draft that is worthy of that #5 pick for the Browns' needs. Curry will be off the board, Orakpo reminds me too much of Kamerion, and we don't need another star WR in Crabtree for BE to butt heads with. It's too high for the OSU duo (Jenkins and Beanie). Trade down, trade down, trade down. I think they should give all indications that they will be picking Crabtree and trade out of the spot for a lower first and a high second. That would give them 4 picks in between, say, the 15th and 50th picks in the draft. That would be remarkable for a team with as much rebuilding needed as the Browns. The are plenty of great players, just not that freak talent that is deserving of that pick. Those could be spent on 2 LB's (the draft is stacked with them) a RB and CB/WR (Robiskie?). Build from the draft. Ask the Steelers. Get it done ManKok.
  16. While there is decent amount of open space, there isn't any well-planned open space. If there were at least a small quad that was surrounded by dorms that opened up to it, you would encourage more lively interaction. CSU needs some kids with frisbees and hacky-sacks who will enjoy hanging out on campus. I agree that we need more diverse uses on Euclid, but that is all part of the plan. CSU needs both if it wants to move towards a residential college that creates a lot of vibrant street life. I would rather see mixed-use than open space, and if it's to be open space I certainly don't want bare grass. A nice quad surrounded by dorms would work. That is, something mid-block and surrounded by buildings. NOT another suburban lawn fronting a major downtown street. Grass for the sake of grass, which most "green space" seems to be these days, is no good at all. That we have too much of throughout the city. Unfortunately the majority of Euclid through there is already developed, much of it with ugly buildings that don't belong. So we're only talking about the area to the north. That's absolutely right. Having residences surrounding this green space is key. Forcing students to walk by it to go to class, the rec, etc will liven the space. Green space without any intention or reasoning wouldn't benefit the area. Given the proximity to the dorms and CSU's vision to have kids on/near campus, this would be a better fit than the ballpark.
  17. Why not just make it a nice slant walk, keep it green spring-fall, well kept. There's nothing that adds to the college feel like a nice quad between residences to play frisbee, throw football, lay out, do homework, play guitar, etc, etc. (I'm at Miami and kids flock to them on days like these last few). I'm assuming if it's big enough for a baseball stadium and seating that it's big enough to be a quad. Is there much space like this at CSU? I'm not as familiar with the campus as I'd like to be. I like the baseball idea, but put it somewhere else. League Park maybe.
  18. First off, I will always get excited when I hear "Cleveland Rocks." But he seriously needs someone to do his marketing or PR or something. The presentation of this project is poor. If he took this to the city, it's no surprise they wouldn't endorse it.
  19. It does have a nice flare though, very colorful. There is too much in Cleveland that is white or black or shades in between. Nothing eye catching. This could help with that. Of course, this is coming from someone that was so excited to see those flaming E 4th statue pieces come about over the summer. Colorful and interesting. It's just something that is seldom seen downtown.
  20. I've been torn over this one. I like the idea to liven up the North Coast, but it looks like a cartoon. I guess it's too cartoony. I do like the docks and the specialty music shops though. And I'm pretty sure that plaza is a parking lot, look at parking spaces. Just tone down the cheese.
  21. Will MMPI really own the convention center? As in the land and structures and all? Is that right? Don't get me wrong, I really want this convention center, but why does the city not own it?
  22. Watch the egos and pride flare up after this statement. "We will not be held hostage by a company from Chicago that doesn't have the city's well-being in mind and blah blah blah." - Mayor Frank
  23. Can anyone tell from the limited renderings if this would affect any land set aside for his stalled East Bank project? If this site eliminates the opportunity to phase in the rest of his project, I'm completely against it. But hey, I do like it as an alternative to TC. I guess I see it as an opportunity for people to visit our city at conventions and for the Med Mart, see our waterfront, Browns Stadium and hopefully a developed East Bank and quell the nasty rumors about Cleveland being dirty, dangerous and a place that might as well sink into the lake. If we can show the world first hand what a great city we have, maybe we can start turning this negative image around. I really think Wolstein can do that.
