Cincinnati: College Hill: Linden Park Commons
Community support of Linden Park decisive Building Cincinnati, 9/6/07 In front of a standing-room-only crowd, the College Hill community voted 224-1 in support of the Linden Park concept plan. The concept plan will now begin its movement through the City Planning Commission and City Council. The College Hill Community Urban Redevelopment Corporation and developer Al Neyer, Inc. are seeking $1.8 million in project gap funding from the City. The project at the corner of Hamilton Avenue and North Bend Road will include a three-story mixed-use building on the former site of Shuller's Wigwam. Included within the building will be 13,000 square feet of retail space and 19 market-rate condominiums with an attached parking garage. A second phase will include 24-30 detached single-family homes to be built to the east of the mixed-use building. More specific design details will be established if the City approves the concept plan and the budgeting of funds. An updated site plan was not available at the time of this post. It will be posted as soon as it becomes available. http://buildingcincinnati.blogspot.com/2007/09/community-support-of-linden-park.html Linden Park meeting tonight Building Cincinnati, 9/4/07 Artist's concept A community meeting will be held tonight to present the conceptual design of Linden Park Commons. A review of schematic design by neighborhood residents is considered crucial in getting the plans approved by City Council. The $8 million project, which is to be built at Hamilton Avenue and North Bend Road, also has a funding gap of $1.8 million and is seeking City funding. Due to the current housing market, the scaled-down project now includes a three-story mixed-use building on the former site of Shuller's Wigwam. Included within the building will be 13,000 square feet of retail space and 19 market-rate condominiums with an attached parking garage. A second phase will include 24-28 detached single-family homes to the east. Dropped from the project is the vacant Kroger store on the northwest corner of the intersection. That property is still privately held and the College Hill Urban Redevelopment Corporation (CHURC) is working to acquire it. Bloomfield, Schon & Partners has agreed to develop the Masonic Eastern Star site to the west of Kroger. Those plans should be available early next year. The meeting will be held at 7 PM at the College Hill Recreation Center, 5545 Belmont Avenue. The meeting is being sponsored by the CHURC and College Hill Forum. Staff from Neyer as well as members of the Linden Park Committee will be available to answer questions. http://buildingcincinnati.blogspot.com/2007/09/linden-park-meeting-tonight.html

I'm getting a strange feeling of deja vu. I'm getting a strange feeling of deja vu. That is a cool view of Hamilton. The monument just needs to be there.

And to top it all off those losers are the first team ever to fall from the Top 5 in the polls to being unranked the next week.

Recommendations on menu-creating software?
I've found a few freeware and shareware programs out there, but they're either extremely clumsy to use, don't install or don't run at all. :(

Ohio Immigration
As David stated, the U.S. certainly does pick and choose who can emigrate here based on skills, relatives who are citizens, etc. There used to be nation-based quotas until the mid-1960s when President Johnson signed into law a bill that establishes quotas by hemisphere, not by country of birth. I believe there may be caps for any one country, but immigrants from each hemisphere get a slot on a first-come, first-served basis.

Gary, IN- non urbex
I never thought much of crime around Merrillville. I used to fill up there on US-30 before hitting full-blown Chicagoland (though one could argue that that occurs around Crown Point). I have also never ventured into Gary, but entering Chicago via the Indiana Toll Road and the Skyway is a MUCH better way to get a feel for what Chicago's all about then taking 80-94 to the Dan Ryan. Though I tend to not be turned off by industrial grit--others may feel differently.

Great thread, DJ Orion. You are a lot gutsier than I am--I can deal with desolation but that place looks downright dangerous. Do they try to prevent people from going there?

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Development and News
buildingcincinnati replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionPhoto update: The Galleries at Pendleton Building Cincinnati, 8/31/07 This pic of the Galleries at Pendleton was taken on Sunday, August 26, 2007. The first phase of the development, which is being built on Dandridge Street across from the Pendleton Arts Center, will include eight attached townhomes starting at $160,000. A future phase will include nine units on Pendleton and Spring streets. Those sites are vacant except for two condemned buildings at 1333-1335 Pendleton Street. Standing since the 1870s, these structures will likely be torn down. The project is being built by Gary Mark Custom Homes. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on good software to create DHTML or JavaScript menus (pull-downs, tabs, etc.). I want to improve the bland pull-down menu on my blog.

Cool post, Eighth and State. I used to love the old Popeye cartoons but I guess I never noticed all of the urban perspectives.

What got you so damn interested in cities in the first place?
There will be no Sim City 5. Maxis, the developers of the game, are off of the project. The new developers, Tilted Mill Entertainment are the ones putting together "SimCity Societies", which is more cartoonish and not really an urban simulation at all. They have even said as much. Sim City 4 is the best you'll do until someone puts out a new simulation.

Cincinnati Bengals Discussion
I'm not upset with any of the cuts they made to get down to 53. I'm glad they dumped Johnson at QB...he's awful. I would have liked to see T.J. Wright make the team, but only because he's a former Bobcat. What happened to Aaron Elling is horrible. Imagine getting the opportunity to market yourself to the other teams in the league and then getting hurt on your very first play.
