Henry County: Development and News
Drive-in theater being readied in Henry County Toledo Blade, 6/20/07 Since the Wauseon Drive-In closed in 1999, families or teens in the area around Liberty Center have had no place to get together for an evening of wholesome fun under the stars. But that's about to change. Motivated by nostalgia, a touch of entrepreneurship, and perhaps a bit of boredom, Mrs. Saunders and her husband, Rod, plan to open a single-screen drive-in theater this summer on their 4.5-acre property on County Road 6 in Henry County's Washington Township. It's about 35 miles southwest of Toledo. "My husband is a teacher, so he has got summers off anyway and it seemed like a great summertime part-time investment opportunity for us," Mrs. Saunders said.

buildingcincinnati replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & Construction^^^ Awesome. Link contains a photo. From the 7/4/07 Enquirer: Festival planners set lofty goal: New theater BY SCOTT WARTMAN | [email protected] A good turnout at today's "4th at the Fort" festival could help a group of Fort Thomas residents turn the 80-year-old amphitheater in the city's Tower Park into a plush venue that could house local and national acts. The amphitheater currently is little more than a weathered concrete band shell at the bottom of a grassy ravine accessed by stone steps. For the past four years, a group of residents known as the 4th at the Fort Committee has organized a Fourth of July celebration in the park to raise money to build a bigger and better amphitheater. "Tower Park should be important to all of Campbell County and definitely to all Fort Thomas residents," said Flo Grey, who has spearheaded the campaign with her husband, Dan. "You go up there on the weekend and it is packed. Every town should have a jewel like that." Since 2003, the committee has raised $45,000 through the July Fourth event and donations. The committee hopes to raise $500,000 to $1 million. This year, the group became a 501©3 nonprofit organization and can receive government grants. Desired improvements include a terraced lawn, wheelchair-access ramps, landscaping, a new entryway, and changing rooms and restrooms for performers. Or, so it seems with the ongoing renovations. "Construction is at a turning point right now and you'll see major progress within the next two weeks," said Superintendent Charles Ed Wilson, as he stepped over an earthen trench in the front lobby. "Morel Construction, the general contractor, has assured me that they are on schedule." Morel and 29 subcontractors are working 10 hours a day, six days a week to finish before the start of school. Last summer during Phase 1 of the renovation, ceilings were removed and technology wiring was installed above the tiles. All asbestos was removed from the building and a new heating and air conditioning system was installed. Phase 2 of a three-phase renovation is now underway.

Westlake: Crocker Park
From West Life, 7/4/07: Hotel planned at corner of Crocker, Detroit Rezoning ordinance would require voter approval By Kevin Kelley Westlake Published July 4, 2007 Stark Enterprises, the main developer of Crocker Park, has submitted plans to the city which would add The Promenade shopping center and a 6.8-acre lot at the corner of Crocker and Detroit roads to the Crocker Park planned unit development (PUD) district. According to Bob Parry, Westlakes director of planning and economic development, the proposal is being made so Stark can build a hotel at the corner of Crocker and Detroit road. Stark wants to build a hotel with retail businesses on the first floor, Parry said. Retail would not be allowed under the citys hotel-motel zoning category, Parry said, so Stark wants to add the corner lot to Crocker Parks existing PUD district, which allows for mixed use development. Jokinen | [email protected] - 07.04.2007 LIMA — Local school officials are disappointed that an effort to get a school funding issue on the November ballot has been abandoned, but some say at least it had people talking about the problem. “I don’t look at it as a defeat at all,” Superintendent Karel Oxley said. “This was one of the strongest conversations to happen in a long time.” The Getting It Right for Ohio’s Future campaign officials announced Monday that it would not collect enough signatures by the Aug. 8 deadline to get the issue on the ballot. The initiative needed 402,276 signatures, but has collected fewer than 200,000. http://www.marionstar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070704/NEWS01/707040319/1002
