  4. Yeah, I haven't noticed any progress except on restoring the Victorian that they moved. I think Rich is right...probably a victim of the housing market.

  6. Parking is at the interior of the site, and the garage is accessible from Sycamore, which is not the main pedestrian entry point to the building (Eighth). The first five floors would include the parking garage, with a lobby that fronts on both Eighth and Sycamore.
  7. Yeah, I don't know how hard it would be to hire somebody to keep folks out of there. That certainly seems better than closing off access for everyone.
  8. One thing about Harkavy Hall is that it's a SRO, so people aren't turned out into the streets on a daily basis. The building will also contain common areas and an outdoor courtyard for people to hang out. Most of these folks are mentally ill and not particularly dangerous. Tender Mercies' main problem is in the alleyway directly across the street. They're trying to get it closed because of all of the drug sales and use, prostitution, and defecation back behind the dumpster there.

Powell's BZA on June 24 upheld a zoning certificate for a 132,873-square-foot Target store at 7525 Guardwell St., at the southeast corner of Sawmill Parkway and Home Road. The CEDA -- Comprehensive Economic Development Agreement -- was signed in 2002 by the city and Liberty Township and controls annexation into the city.   11. A little over a month ago, I took my mom to the Krohn Conservatory Butterfly Show as a belated Mother's Day gift. "The Silk Road" featured hundreds of butterflies from throughout Asia, flying freely and landing on peoples' hair and making the children cry. The show also featured cultural and artistic gifts from Cincinnati's sister city, Liuzhou, China, and all kinds of native plants and flowers.   12. I wouldn't read anything into these demolitions. Nothing really has changed, other than the fact that ClifCor felt it was in their best interests to raze the blighted structures. As recently as early this year, they were still looking to re-tenant them. But they still own the land, and there is no sale pending that I know of. CHCURC is still working with Towne on a partnership to develop a mixed-use project on the site. Any final plan is still several months away.

  14. There were at least 20 objections to Alternatives 1 and 2...these are likely to be killed. These came up at the subcommittee meeting on the 24th and included objections from the Covington city manager, Duke Energy, CPA (Longworth Hall), the Queensgate Business Alliance, the Museum Center, Fox 19, you name it.

  16. I have never seen the need for two eastbound lanes (or westbound) at any time, and that includes me getting stuck at lights constantly. I'm always taking Liberty to Walnut, which leads to my office. But it always seems like at least one of the lanes is shut down, or some asshole county sheriff van is parked in the middle of the right lane for a work detail.

The park, which has existed near the intersection of Sycamore, Auburn and Dorchester since 1866, was renovated and re-opened in a ceremony on May 7. Other photos were taken from Via Vite during a Soapbox event, and of the exterior of the Oceanaire during an interview for a Soapbox story. Cyclones win championship BY TOM RAMSTETTER | [email protected] There was nothing minor-league about the scene inside US Bank Arena Thursday night as the Cyclones became the first Cincinnati pro sports team to win a championship since 1990. A record crowd of 12,722 watched Cincinnati beat Las Vegas 3-1 in Game 6 to win the Kelly Cup Finals four games to two. It was the largest playoff crowd in the history of the ECHL and the Cyclones. It was the seventh-largest hockey crowd in US Bank Arena history. Cyclones forward Matt Syroczynski scored a power-play goal less than a minute into the third period, giving the Cyclones a 2-1 lead and putting Cincinnati in position to claim its first East Coast Hockey League title.   23. On May 5, I attended a tour of the current School for Creative and Performing Arts (SCPA) hosted by the Pendleton Neighborhood Council. The building housing the SCPA was built in 1907 as the fourth Woodward High School, a school dating back to 1831 and the oldest high school west of the Alleghenies. Due to shifts in population, Woodward High School moved to the neighborhood of Bond Hill in 1953, and the building became a junior high school. SCPA moved into the building in 1976-1977 and took full occupancy of all floors in 1978. A new building combining SCPA (grades 4-12) and Schiel Primary School (K-3) is being built on the other end of the neighborhood, near Washington Park. When the $62 million, 250,000-square foot building opens for the 2009-2010 school year, it will be the first K-12 arts school in the nation.   24. Here are some photos from the Flower Carpet on Fountain Square, taken from ground level. The butterfly design by Clifton artist Jan Brown Checco was composed of 20,000 pansies of various colors and included small patches of grass and mulch pathways for public use. When it was disassembled, the potted flowers were given away for free. For some reason, I later walked down to Second Street and got a few photos there. And then there's a random Hyde Park shot....
