Sycamore Township: Kenwood Towne Centre
Maybe Kenwood could get a Von Maur. This regional upscale midwestern chain has been creeping gradually this direction. It would be a great fit for Kenwood.

I ask this forum again: Is it responsible for an institution of education to give millions to an neighborhood project when they are having trouble meeting the needs fo the students financially? UC has made it very public and clear that escalated construction costs on campus have lead to budget shortfalls. I believe that UC has made the right choice to limit their financial exposure to this project during a tight budget period. Much work has been done by the University to address the budget shortfalls. The primary goal of UC is educating students not rebuilding neighborhoods. Rebuilding the neighborhood is a secondary goal. If you had a goal to buy a 2 Million dollar condo but needed medical treatments to stay alive and you only had the money to do one or the other which would you choose? This scenario may be drastic but I think it demonstrates the tough choices UC has made at this point in time.

1907 Kessler Cincinnati Plan
It is a shame that Kessler plan for Cincinnati never was followed. His blvds and parks helped define Kansas City, MO.

I think the message over the last year is that UC wants to focus on streamlining administration to cut costs and to focus on its core academic mission. This has been transparent to the public through the UC|21 goals and in articles in the Enquirer and other publications. All unclassified employees have been offered early retirement if they qualify--they do not have to take it. Employees were also told in June through an all university e-mail that some cuts could be made through layoffs. Given these facts, I see nothing unusual with what is occuring. The University has a responsibilty to the people and government of Ohio to spend monies wisely and when times are lean to cut back on programs that do not support its core academic mission.

Maybe this Shopping Center could get Crate & Barrel. This would be a sign that the Westside can hold it's own against the east side.

Could Cincinnati/Dayton be in line for an NBA team?
With all the recent additions and renovations to French Hall, I can't imagine them tearing that down---it is more likely it would be used for OCAS as is. As for Dabney, I can't see it closing in the near future the demand for housing is too high and Dabney Hall has become the place to live since it is right next door to the new Rec Center. I suspect the campus master plan is being altered. President Zimpher has declared that no new construction projects will occur for awhile.

Cincinnati: Crime & Safety Discussion
Does the Enquirer ever do comparisons of the killings here as compared to other cities/metro areas our size? Yes, it is important to compare to our own records, but how do we compare to other cities. I suspect that comparison would create a more positive reality. This is not to say that the deaths are insignificant and that we wouldn't be better if there was no homocides, but is our reality really that bad???

I agree with UncleR 100%!! What sense does it make to cut a position save $80-$100K (which I doubt) and leave a multi-million dollar project in limbo?? It needs to be seen thru to completion. I hope the Uptown COnsortium or someone else can finish this project. To play the devil's advocate: Should a university fund a position that is non-essential to its core mission in a time of budget strife? How would this look to a government asking for univerisity's justification as to why they need more funding? Why do many of you expect a university to move forward with funding a project when they have publicly stated they don't have the funds? Would you expect the same from a private company? In my eyes, development shoud only move forward if is is financially feasible and make good sense. The financial feasibility of any project can change from the time of implementation to completion--which is why many projects get started and are not completed and not just here in Cincinnati. You don't truly believe that every project proposed for New York or Chicago gets completed? A project should not move forward just for the sake of taking up space---that goes against all business principals.

Remember that any salary figure does not include benefits. This would push the cost of his employement easily above $100,000 at a slary of $80,000.

Your Metro's Worst Sprawlers
THis was typically done to deter speeding and discourage the "unwanted elements" from just driving through a neighborhood. This is what I have picked up from shows I have watched and information I have read about subdivisions and suburbia.

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
Okay...I do not think the Banks is the place for affordable housing for this simple reason Downtown and OTR have more then their share of affordable housing. If you had said let's build affordable housing in Hyde Park, Mount Lookout, Oakley, I would support the cause easily. The biggest problem with downtown is that all the affordable housing in the city was place in OTR and the West End creating a very bad social situation. Downtown desperately needs a kick in the pants and building more affordable housing in an area that is already saturated with affordable housing is not the answer. If downtown/the core is to truly become mixed income, we need housing that attracts some wealth to the core.

While on Campus housing is doing great business, they can not say they are waitlisted yet. It is expected that they will use temporary housing and be waitlisted by the time Fall Quarter rolls around.- Cincinnati: Green Twp - Legacy Place
I stand corrected. I support the shopping center. The west side needs some thing to balance it out with the east. Has anyone noticed all the new homes on the westside being built for 400k -600k? The westside is coming into its own. Now if only the region can pull together and support the heart of the metro we would really be a very cool place!- Cincinnati: Abandoned and vacant buildings discussion
I have to disagree with this assessment. It is very clear that many of the vacant buildings in OTR have had NO work done on them in years. I would expect that if people really were rehabing the properties they would show some signs of progress. If it takes several years to complete a rehab, then how come development companies are able to complete large buildings within 2 years and smallers buildings within a year?- Cincinnati: Green Twp - Legacy Place
Ummm..... those pictures represent the original proposal not the latest from what I have researched on the subject. Any one have the new plans?- Metro Cincinnati: Road & Highway News
I live off Ruwe's Oaks in the condos. I am very glad the other two commisioners are awake and paying attention. The county can't continue to allow building out there without addressing the infrastructure needs. Portune is an idiot as far as I am concerned. Most everyone I know in the area supports this realignment. Portune should move out of the county if he doesn't like it :-D. I would love to see light rail going out to that area, but so far no one has produced a plan that the majority would support. Maybe this will change soon--until then we have to have roads.- CVG: Delta and Comair news
Unfortunately, I think most of Delta's problems were inherited by former management. The current CEO has tried to pull things back together based on the many articles I have read. It is hard to dig out of a hole that was so dug so deep.- Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
It is painful, but I suspect there is a lot of truth to it. Towne Properties has a good history of development in the region. Someone should listen to them. They didn't get to be so big by making a lot of mistakes.- Cincinnati: Mt. Auburn - McMillan Manor
Oops. I posted the wrong site. Try www.mcmillanmanor.com . Then click the small link at the bottom if you do not want to participate in the minor survey. You have to admit they are very similar in name.- Cincinnati: Mt. Auburn - McMillan Manor

A consignment shop for college students might be nice. Kansas City has one in the Westport area. It was a great place to trade in clothes for "new to you clothes". They had a specific standard for the clothes they would accept which kept the quality high. To me this would be a perfect addition to the area. - Cincinnati: Clifton Heights: University Park Apts/Calhoun Street Marketplace
