Alive Mall? - Bridgewater Falls (Butler County)
^ I would say much sooner---20 years max. and that assumes the owners keep the center up to date and relevant to their market. It also assumes the target population surrounding the center remains stable.

Terminal 1 is closed accept for some Fedex flights. I can't see how Delta could operate out of terminal 2. It is small and there aren't that many gates available. Terminal 3 is the BIG Delta terminal. Maybe your source meant they would shut down concourse A or B within the terminal? If they shut down concourse B, they could easily avoid using the tram.

When I get a chance (probably tomorrow), I will take some shots of the old abadoned theatre at Linn and Clark streets. It is a grand building that needs some major TLC.

I think a Target or Costco would be a great replacement for the old car lot on 8th in queensgate just to the west of Linn St. The location could serve downtown, Mt Adams, Over The Rhine, Downtown Covington, Price Hill and the West End.

You have to wonder how the demise of Northgate as a viable mall will affect the west and northwest side of Cincinnati. I have to imagine that a new shopping center serving both areas will be developed in the near future. The Dillards in Green Township is in high need of a remodel or outright replacement.

The point is that, the city bailed on downtown decades ago and as a result of bad policy and a lack of jobs that support our specific tax base of mostly laborers with little to no education, our neighborhoods have deteriorated quite a bit. Because of the longlasting effects of dying neighborhoods (think Cleveland), the effort to invest in Price Hill and Walnut Hills, among others, should be much greater than the single-minded focus of hipsters and corporate urbanites that want to pretend its 1890 again. These other neighborhoods matter too. What about those people with the blisters on their feet from hiking Cincinnati hills day by day? Connecting the Westside with a couple lines is not only a humanitarian gesture, but politically shrewd. Who do you think loves WLW so much? Not just the suburbs. What's going to happen when an out-of-towner realizes our streetcar system is actually one loop, and the gentrification happening around that line is not indicative of the state of 95% of our communities? Anybody with a brain would think that Cinci could have/needs to do a little (lot) more. When the streetcar system increases development and causes tax receipts to increase for the city, would not that provide more money to help redevelop neighborhoods such as Price Hill and walnut hills? The health of downtown has a direct impact on the neighborhoods in the city. If downtown dies, then there will be significantly less monies to help other neighborhoods. The neighborhoods do not exist separate or independent from downtown. Think of the the proposed streetcar system as fixing the roof on a house called Cincinnati. If the roof doesn't get fixed, it doesn't matter what you do to the rest of the house (ie the other neighborhoods). The house would still deteriorate and could lead to the whole house being condemned. "What's going to happen when an out-of-towner realizes our streetcar system is actually one loop, and the gentrification happening around that line is not indicative of the state of 95% of our communities? " Any educated person knows that a city tries to put it's best foot forward for visitors. Smart visitors know what they see is but a small representation of the city. Has anyone stopped visiting or moving to Atlanta after they bussed all the homeless out for the Olympics several years back? No---Atlanta keeps growing. The question you posed is a poor counter-arguement that is filled with holes.

The message that this WILL NOT be paid for by a tax increase should be included as part of the campaign. I guarantee a lot of the masses assume that the 185 million to build phase 1 (or phase 1 and 2) streetcar system will come from a tax increase. When they realize it doesn't increase taxes and most of the money cannot be used for other pet projects outlined but some naysayers, I think the masses will support having the streetcar.

It really does depend. The job market is definitely not hot in Cincinnati. People looking in Healthcare and Information Technology seem to have the best prospects.

Sycamore Township: Kenwood Collection
What about this area is "nice"? Outside of the ritzy store names, you really just have a mall and a bunch of strip centers. The whole planning for the area was poorly thought out leading to major traffic snarls during peak hours. For me, the only institution of any real value in that area is Jewish Hospital. That being said, I would like to see the building completed because it is an eyesore as it stands now.

The last time I went to the Tower Place food court, there were several resturants that had closed. Has this changed recently? I have only seen it busy during lunch----all other times of the day, it is dead.

They need to get a major anchor into Tower place itself if it to survive as it stands----Maybe H&M or something along those lines--something new to market. It cannot survive with a typical mall mix---it has to have stores that can't be found elsewhere--and only a couple stores fit that criteria right now. The food court needs to be redeveloped----something like the food court in the Water Tower-Chicago would be nice. If they can't make something like that happen, then the top floors need to become offices and the street level retail/resturants. Right now it only has a couple of unique stores. As far as the Downtown Macy's---while it is not Kenwood, I enjoy going there. I can get many of the clothing items I need. Their Eagle Brand shirts wear well and survive many washings/dryings. I can't begin to tell you the number of people that think I have my Eagle shirts professionally dry cleaned/pressed. It would be nice if they added INC.

Here is another idea to kinda fit the vibe of western bowl. A Sonic Drive-in Restaurant. Have the wait staff on skates---it is a chain that is popoular in many parts of the country. Inexpensive food that would attract familes. I have seen Sonics in some malls and airports---so it wouldn't nexcessarily have to be a "drive-in". Just another idea.

I only use the part going from Macy's to Tower Place to Saks/Tower Place parking. The 2nd floor men's department at Macy's makes it very convenient. I haven't step foot in the rest of it.

^If only it were that simple. I would suggest re-reading this thread and any informative links. It will demonstrate how the Queengates option would 1) Cut through the middle of Queensgate and 2) Not create any substantial land for redevelopment close to downtown because a major highway interchange to connect to I-71 southbound to I-75 north bound (and vice-versa) and I-75 southbound to downtown. The current path would not disappear, just be modified slightly. This is why many are against this option.

Forgive me, after fivve years of living in Cincinnati, I do not know the answer to what I am about to ask: Does Cincinnati have a good dinner theatre? One that brings in comedy shows with famous actors and actresses? This might be something unique to build into an Western Bowl entertainment complex. We had a dinner theatre like this in the Kansas City Metro that was always packed.

In reviewing the bridge alternatives, the queensgate alternative would slice through a industrial neighborhood with little to no access to anything while the I-75 highway and access would remain for downtown access and 75 to northbound 71 access and 71 to northbound 75 access. It is not just a matter of moving the highway and then having new land available for development.

^ I guess near is very subjective. No where did I state the historical gems were in the path, rather I was trying to show you that Queensgate was more than just a place to bulldoze for a new highway. This was in response to your orignal statment: My point still stands: The Brent Spence Bridge realignment can have a huge impact on this potentially rich development area depending on the path taken and people do "know where Queensgate is" .
