  1. I know which one it is now. I was worried it was the Schwartz building---a truly unique building that should not be demolished at any time. I don't see why 1914 vine couldn't be saved.

If the Big Three all fail, Detroit may not have a large population. It would be like Katrina hitting New Orleans. All the Big Three corporate employees, factories, and their suppliers in the Detroit metro area would be impacted. This would then impact every other industry in the metro. Imagine any city in Ohio losing is 3 largest employers. Granted this hasn't happened and I hope it doesn't. But something that big could impact where Delta keeps its hubs.
  3. which building is 1914 vine? I wish we had pictures...

The interior looks like any other mills location. I had hoped that when Simon Properties bought the Mills company out of bankruptcy, Simon would do something (anything) to bring this mall back to life.

They might be waiting to see what happens ot the big 3 in Detroit. If they go under, CVg might be an attractive Hub and Detroit would become a focus city.
  6. Pathetic as it may have been, I am glad Cincinnati chooses to get a local tree. This years tree builds on that strong tradition and raises the bar for the future.
  7. The old thread shoulld have been marked as abadoned. The new Mercer Commons is a different plan and part of Gateway Quarter.
  8. Yes. The Gateway Quarter thread is at 25 pages in length and includes dozens of projects. Projects that are individually identifiable with their own brands and timelines (i.e. City Home, Mercer Commons, Washington Park, SCPA) and should be separated out. Then when they are completed they can be moved to the completed section. It allows for more specific focuses of threads and more clairty when it comes to the status of particular construction projects. I respectfully disagree. Mercer Commons is part of Gateway Quarter and should not be taking up 2 threads.
  9. Downtown retail was destroyed when retailers decided to move out where people lived. Since very few people who fit the retail companies demographics lived in downtown at the time, they closed up shop.
  10. Looks like it's at 2200 Vine St. Google Maps shows it as being on the corner of St. Joe St and Vine, which is the temporary home of Rothenburg Elementary Preparatory Academy. I guess that old school site is where they're planning an apartment development. I think it is the building right next to the school that used to be a laundromat. They gutted the insides and out of that building. It could easily hold 12 units.
  11. Okay---now unusualfire's comments make sense.
  12. I thought the new owners had a plan? This sounds like pure desperation.
  13. The Marriott does well in the market. Many hotels are suffering a slowdown right now because of the economy.

High concentration? You haven't seen a high concentration of Section 8 until you get into the Westend near Liberty and Linn. I don't think their is anything wrong with the Metropole being section 8 as long as there is a responsible landlord (responsible being the key here). Why can't section eight housing exist in downtown so that people of all walks could live in the core? Where would you propose moving the people in the Metropole? My concern is that statements like this promote the idea that section eight only belongs with other section 8. This kind of thinking goes back to the age when Laurel homes existed along Ezzard Charles. The whole Westend became a community of "projects". This is not good for the people in section eight who are genuinely trying to live a good life (which is the majority of people in low income housing believe it or not). It is also not good for the community at large to be segregated by socio-economic status. Now if you had offered to move the people of the Metropole into new low-income housing in Indian Hills, I would see it as a positive. I have a feeling the people in Indian Hills would have a fit if this were the case.....
  16. thats the most absurd thing i've ever heard Why is this absurd? I have been to other urban areas that have parking on top of the grocery store. It seems like smart land use to me.
  17. There is plenty on the jefferson/mlk side of campus. Marriott, all the hospitals all which have have thousands of employees. I think ti would be foolish to disregard the impact of east campus on uptown.
  18. And a price to pay. I think giving the circumstances, the orientation of the building fits the location. The other side is a view of the on and off ramps for I-471 and Party Source. It is not like they built this building in the middle of a dense business district. They took advantage of a beautiful view of the river and cincy skyline. They also intend to have the marina taking advantage of a natural transportation route rather than some street that has no good pontential for development on the other side.
  19. How in the world to you have buildings face a street that is lined by a flood wall? I think in this case having them face the river is very appropriate.
  20. I think we should all just let time tell us who is right about the Levee. Either they will fill the empty store fronts or the storefronts will remain empty and NOTL will face a decline. Let's just wait and see.
  21. Since we have expanded to places outside of Ohio---my favorite place to have pizza is Gino's of Far East Chicago. Great deep dish pizza!!!!
  22. I think they need to move where land is cheap. Broadway commons land value would be too high to have the fair without significant corporate cotributions to purchase those damn parking lots.
  23. The failures of Tower Place have been discussed in the local media quite often. It has been presented as a sign that downtown was dead. I don't think we need to discuss it anymore. NOTL has never been presented in the same light by media. It has had numerous closings and is almost as emtpy as tower place when you leave out AMC and the aquarium. Yet the media proclaims it to be the shopping, entertainment, dining mecca of the region to this day. I rememeber when both places were filled with stores and only a couple store fronts empty.
  24. Bigg's is owned by SuperValu based out of Minnesota(?)
