I agree one hundred percent. Some plainclothes police officers writing tickets to those caught littering will eradicate a great deal of the littering. Just as people pay to board the healthline because they fear a ticket, they would cease to litter if the city gave the littering prohibition a little teeth

you are right, EC. others may also call city hall and complain when city services are less than satisfactory. i thought that went without saying . . .- Cleveland: Downtown Cleveland Alliance News & Discussion
first of all, public square isnt the job of the ambassadors. it is the job of city workers. i suggest you take it up with city hall. the city has a contract with its employees such that the employees are responsible for, among other things, cleaning three quadrants of the square. if they want to give their employees more hours so that they can clean the square, the employees would do so.- Cleveland: Catholic Diocese Church Closings
just came back from a parish meeting at st. james. apparently, prior to the creation of the clusters, the bishop enacted a moratorium on the renovation of church buildings until a determination has been made as to whether a church will be closing or remaining open. thus, st. james was prevented from repairing their roof despite the fact that the church was able to raise over $300,000. in funds specifically for the roof. also, st. james is appealing the decision, as are a few other parishes. parishioners spoke at the meeting for over an hour and a half. it looks like the bishop will be receiving quite a bit of mail in the next few weeks- Ohio: GM, Ford, and Chrysler News & Info
I agree that autoworkers do not deserve more than other manufacturers who put in the same hours and have the same physically demanding jobs. Thus those workers who are "not getting it" should contact the UAW and ask about advice for organizing their workplace! ;-)- Ohio: GM, Ford, and Chrysler News & Info
MTS, you seem to fall in the "unquestioning love of pure capitalism" camp, per your own words: "I find proping up a dead company wasteful and those people, communities, etc that are caught up in this unfortunate casualties. But that's life." Obviously the company is not dead. Two, I reject the idea that government can't be a force of good to mitigate the damages of an already very damaging recession- Ohio: GM, Ford, and Chrysler News & Info
and i would have no problem with those workers if they attempted to organize and after doing so, they sought a contract that gave them decent health care and retirement as well as a pay increase. in fact, i would join them on the picket line if their employer refused to bargain with them. You see this disparity and think, those autoworkers need to be knocked down in their wages. I see the disparity and think that others who put in honest days work should be paid a living wage with health care benefits and a reasonable retirement as well. and i don't understand why people argue that "If the union dissolved and these guys were brought back down to earth cars would be thousands of dollars less expensive." yeah, thats obviously true. and if companies didn't have to pay their workers at all, cars would be cheaper still.- Ohio: GM, Ford, and Chrysler News & Info
don't have much to add to what 327 has already said. Its amazing how many people are willing to let their hatred of unions or their unquestioning love of pure capitalism blur their judgment of what is best for the country. we are in a severe recession. people are unable to receive the financing required to make significant purchases like buying a car. Thus, we are extending a loan to two of the big three automakers so they will not go bankrupt and cause millions to become unemployed (current estimate is that roughly 3,000,000 would lose their jobs if the big three closed up shop), further deepening our recession and possibly leading to a depression. If the Big 3 failed, the federal gov’t would spend far more than 14 billion cleaning up the mess. Apparantly for some on urban ohio (who apparantly have the same political views as Southern Senate Republicans), it is worth it to stick it to the uaw. how dare workers demand health care and a retirement!? dont they know that such luxuries should only be extended to those who shower before work and not after work? and im not even mentioning the loss in municipal, state and federal taxes. Everyone here wants more funding from the state for public transportation. Well, when the state has less money for such funding, you can bet they are not going to increase their investment in public transportation. This is a loan people. We will get it back with interest, just like we did the last time we provided a loan to an auto company.- Ohio: GM, Ford, and Chrysler News & Info

don't mean to sound critical, but "few protestors willing to speak on the record" is not all that telling. just as a company would not want random employees speaking on the record re: an issue of interest to it and would prefer that a designated spokesperson speak on its behalf, so to a labor union would prefer to have its spokesperson engage with the media. the reporter just made an issue out of what is really standard practice for every organization- Cleveland / Lakewood: The Edge Developments
I spoke to a Rego on Saturday about how business was going at his kamms corner location after noticing that some shelves were empty. He told me that the place is struggling "due to the bad economy" but expects things to pick up once the Giant Eagle in West Park closes. He also mentioned the new Giant Eagle opening on W. 117 but did not mention moving into the building on W. 117 and Detroit. So I doubt that will be happening soon.- Cleveland: Downtown: East 4th Street Developments
Hello all. Long time reader, first time poster. I noticed on the new East 4th Website that Blackfinn is not mentioned at all.
