Non-Ohio Light Rail / Streetcar News
I'm not sure what that has to do with Streetcars, but I mostly agree. The only thing I'd add is that ridership would be even higher if the route also stopped in UC. I think a Red line extension into Euclid isn't the worst idea (a HL extension would be far worse) and accomplishes many of the same goals, but without including Lake County it won't work.

Peter B. Lewis, Progressive Insurance Chairman passes away at 80
Agreed, the majority of the workforce wants to stay put. But I wouldn't be surprised to see them lease a couple of floors of the next big office building that gets built downtown and slap their name on the side of it.

4 Turnovers. You just can't overcome that. At least it was better than the 5 last week.

Kasich has stated an interest in merging municipalities in order to save money. If you pitched it to him as a long run savings it might fly.

Cleveland: Transit Ideas for the Future
Why does everyone want to hate on the Euclid expansion? It's not like they're going to actually build rail that way and the study will show how crappy the connections are in that corridor.

Cleveland: Transit Ideas for the Future
Could you save half a mile by having the green line turn north on Coventry then follow the same route instead of having the blue line turn at Moreland? Or are you thinking a relocated SS station could allow transfers? Never mind.

Northeast Ohio: Regionalism News & Discussion
IMO, this only makes sense if E. Cleveland declares bankruptcy first to get any debt off their books and that state and/or county put up some funds toward making it worth Cleveland's effort. In the long run it would be better for Cleveland to not have crime spilling over from E. Cleveland into Glennville and the area south of Superior that's close to UC would be ripe for investment as would some of the "up the hill" areas. No.

Walkable Communities
My house has actually gone up in the last couple years, but I think it has to do with a few smaller stores getting added to Google's data that weren't there previously.

Cleveland: Transit Ideas for the Future
^Nice, but admittedly they'd be just as close on a bus. I keep seeing similar demonstrations that also include bikes, but they always tend to pack the bikes too close together to be realisitic.

Walkable Communities
From what I've seen some places get artificially inflated walkscores because crappy stores get counted and towns with a lot of small businesses not listed in google tend to get artificially low scores. Still it can give you a vague idea of the area. If a neighborhood gets a score above 75 it's going to be at least somewhat walkable and if one gets a score below 25, might as well assume everyone is going to be driving.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
2 INTs (one of which was tipped) 2 fumbles 2 blocked punts 1 long punt return Considering all that, losing 41-20 is fairly good.

Cleveland: Downtown: Mall Development and News
When I worked downtown I regularly ate lunch on the mall till they started construction. I was never alone, though there weren't a lot of people either.

Cleveland: Skylift Aerial Tram
Exactly. This would be worse in terms of ridership.

Angled sections don't cause "death rays", shiny concave sections cause them.

Columbus-Lima-Fort Wayne-Chicago Passenger Rail
^oooh, Columbus is unique and rail won't work there even though it works in every other major city in the world. Sure...

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
Smart cards have been coming "next year" for almost as long as this thread has been going. Is RTA is catching the "next year" disease from the Browns/Indians/Cavs? ;-)

Cleveland: Random Development and News
Redirected from the Asiatown Developments thread Not sure. Which building was that? Or does that even still stand? I see there's a single-level building next to the marina on the north side of the marginal road that links MLK and East 72nd. Is that it? The address 601 East 72nd is farther west. The Aquarium is the octagonal building in Gordon Park south of the shoreway. The police were using it for training their K9 units until recently, but I'm not sure when the metal roof got ripped off.

Northeast Ohio / Cleveland: General Transit Thread
Laketran had not participated in this study because GCRTA did not ask it to. GCRTA staff said this would be a Cuyahoga County study, although some data from Lake County that affects Cuyahoga County would be included. Without the riders from Lake county, I just don't see the potential ridership justifying a rail option even just to Euclid. Without a partnership with Laketran this whole study appearsto me to be RTA's excuse to justify using federal funds to buy more bendy busses since Joe C seems to have a hard on for them. It pisses me off because it sucks to live near one of the denser neighborhoods on the east side and not have a decent option to get to UC without going through downtown and RTA has the ability to fix it but seems to be unable to see the obvious ways to fix it because of their love for BRT. BRT is the last thing this corridor needs; it would be worse than doing nothing.

Northeast Ohio / Cleveland: General Transit Thread
If money was no object I'd prefer KJP's diesel rail option because of the possibility of an extension into Lake county, however since Laketran doesn't seem interested in any kind of partnership on this, I'd rather we just got an express bus to run down Lakeshore from the highrises then take Babbitt to Euclid Ave then take that at least to Windermere. If it stops every quarter mile like the HL, then it'll bunch up like the HL does so it needs to have limited stops.
