  1. ^^Plus damn near every high rise in Lakewood & Euclid are oriented that way for the same reason.
  2. As it is designed, you have a lake view if you turn your head about 45 degrees from every room in the place. Otherwise you either have a view of the Justice Center and the Warehouse District or you have a view of the mall and the buildings on E 9th and E 12th. If the tower was on the west side of the lot, you'd only be able to see the Justice Center and lose most of the views in that direction of the Warehouse District and the lake. I'm not going to say I love the design, but the orientation of the tower makes sense IMO if the goal is to provide decent views to every room.
  3. We discuss this every few months; RTA's location information only works about 2/3rds of the time (much less for the red line) for a variety of reasons (some technical, some operator caused). When NextConnect cannot find the bus/train because the information loading into it is bad, it guesses that the bus/train will be on time.
  4. Ok folks, it's been a few years since I took geometry in 9th grade, but implying that it'd be too steep from the convention center hotel is just silly. The convention center hotel is probably going to be about 370 feet tall. Add to that that it's about 40' higher in elevation than the lakefront between the rock hall and science center. So 410' if we assume that whatever structure built on the waterfront is roughly the same height as whatever would have to be added to the top of the hotel. Using Google Maps, it looks like it's a little over 1500' from the NE corner of the county office building to the spot between the rock hall and science center. I'll round down to 1500 because I'm lazy. Now, if my math is correct that's a 15 degree angle. Considering skylifts are designed to go up mountains far steeper than that, it shouldn't be a problem. I still think it's a silly gimmicky idea, but it is possible.

Didn't ODOT just do a big multi-million dollar study on tranportation needs under Strickland that determined they need better funding? Why waste more money studying to find that they need more money that'll never get through the legislature? Just seems a waste of time to me. (Though I did complete the survey previously.)
  6. Does anyone know anything about White City Park? Is it open to the public? I've been passing it a couple times a week for years on my way to work but never really paid much attention to it. It's got a big cast iron fence up to keep people out. I know it was an amusement park till it had a fire and storm damage in 1907. I know it was a park in the 70s when Collinwood was better known for Danny Green and organized crime than for its art scene. (and yes I know about the shooting there.) Is a part of the wastewater treatment plant now? Is it a park, but just really unattractive and unwelcoming? Considering it has a beach it would seem to have some potential if it were cleaned up and opened up to the public.
  7. ^Other than in bad weather or if there's some major traffic issue because of construction or an accident the RTA busses have been reasonably reliable (+/- 5 minutes) for me. The HL has been the worst from my experience but YMMV.
  8. I'm happy about it but it's a little bittersweet knowing what happened in Cincinnati.

I sortof doubt we'll have Hoyer, Campbell and a rookie next preseason. 2 of the 3 sure, but there's no need for 3 good (but not great) QBs on a team that has more pressing holes. (WR, RB, offensive line) If we're keeping Hoyer and Campbell to fight it out, I don't see a need to draft a QB in the early rounds.
  10. ^^ I thought the same thing on DC for minute. Tampa Bay is the third. There is no city of Tampa Bay.
  11. Patriots, Panthers, and Redskins Buccaneers

Jacksonville is the only game that I'm confident about a win. Pittsburgh is having a bad year, but they're not terrible. Both games against them will be close. I'll be happy with one win. The Bengals are banged up, but they're still formidible and mad that we caught them by surprise. It'll be a tough game. The Bears, well yeah we've got chance in that one, but it'll be close too. The Jets and Patriots are away games in December against a team that'll be fighting for wildcard spot and a team that'll be fighting for homefield advantage. I have low hopes for both.
  13. Didn't you just leave not that long ago? Or has it been longer than I remember? Welcome back either way.

Campbell isn't a long term solution, but he might be good enough to last till we find someone that is. All I ask is that someone teach him how to slide.
  15. ^I mostly agree. I'm really happy that they're at least studying a red line extension into euclid (because I'll use it), but I have low hopes that an extension will actually be built, while a route through Lakewood would generate significant ridership and have a better chance of getting federal funding. I wish they'd spent the study money on that route and just bumped up the frequency on a couple of bus routes through Euclid/East Cleveland.

My parents banned any music from our house that wasn't religious when i was a kid. I guess that backfired as I became an atheist, but sadly have no knowledge or experience with good music.

People that use the word "fanbois" annoy me.

Or Apple is trying to make their hardware more valuable by telling consumers that it'll be supported a bit longer. They've long done the same with ios devices, so it's interesting to see them treat desktops that way.
  19. ^Well, 50 years from now when the road, sidewalks and all the platforms need completely rebuilt it might be possible, but it's unlikely it'll happen in most of our lifetimes unless something quite dramatic happens to transit funding.
  20. I don't particularly like One WTC either, but what's the point in vague complaints about it now? It's not like they can stop and design something new and more interesting. If you're going to complain about something at least have the decency to point out specifically what you don't like about it so that the same "mistakes" aren't repeated. I'm not always a fan of Calatrava, but the station at the WTC site is amazing looking.

    ^damn, I wish I hadn't read that.
  22. Since we're probably all dreaming anyway, here's an idea. Since CSX seems to be the biggest obstacle, can the route be built without using their tracks? If NS were to complete the Lakefront Bypass, CVSR could use then use their elevated line around the east side of downtown to get from the Amshack around and down to the valley by Slavic Village and then rebuild the tracks along Mill creek to get down to Garfield Heights. Or, for that matter, if NS doesn't build the connections to use the lakefront bypass, CVSR could use the tracks between Kinsman and Broadway to get up to 77 and 490 and then follow the old right of way to Tower City. Obviously neither option would be cheap though.
  23. ^I'm pretty sure it was originally scheduled to open in 2014 but is delayed.
  24. ^34th is a little scary at night. I prefer 55th.

Not a bit of snow on Lakeshore between Eastlake (I had to run an errand before work) and E105th. E 105th though was completely covered in slush; should've taken MLK. As a plus I had the section of the parking garage reserved for motorcycles all to myself.
