  1. ^Streetsblog quite regularly cites Cleveland because Angie Schmitt is a Clevelander. She's basically been the de facto leader of the opposition to the Opportunity Corridor and writes for both Streetsblog and Rustwire (regularly though not exclusively about Cleveland). Come to think of it, I'd be shocked if she's not at least an occasional lurker on here.
  2. ^Agreed. Getting good news from there pretty regularly. I just wish they could have held off repaving the street till either Lakeshore or St Clair were done. (PIA for anyone with a bike to get through Collinwood.)
  3. If im not mistaken there were businesses here that closed due to the Healthline being constructed as well. There were only a few that closed during construction, but most of those were on the rocks anyway.
  4. ^There's nothing wrong with counting riders on the HL regardless of whether they transferred and there's nothing wrong with encouraging transfers onto more efficient modes. What is "distasteful" IMO is when that is done and then the ridership is compared to the HL ridership before the other routes terminated at the HL or comparing it with the 6 and using that to try to imply greater success of the HL. While not outright dishonest, leaving out that riders on routes up into Cleveland Heights are forced to switch to the HL is, at best, a little sneaky. When that comparison is made it makes it look like RTA is artificially inflating the HL numbers to make it appear as more of a success than it actually is.
  5. There are folks who'd disagree strongly with your harsh dismissal of the HealthLine and its impact: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/11/30/realestate/commercial/cleveland-ignites-job-growth-with-rebuilding-project.html?_r=0 Hindsight is 20/20. Might the residential development project in Uptown, or any of the myriad other developments along the avenue, have otherwise gone forward? Possibly. Would they have taken the same form? Possibly. I, for one, think not -- IMHO. IMO, a repaving of Euclid ave with new wider sidewalks and bike lane but the same old bus 6 would have brought the vast majority of the development we're seeing. Even if only half the more recent developments would have come about, the HL is still being oversold because some of the numbers we've seen quoted as part of the impact of it include projects announced before the HL even started construction. You can't give the HL credit for the student center at CSU, or the expansion at the CMA, or the CC, but some supporters of the HL count the cost of those projects with the impact of it which is fundamentally dishonest. You just as easily count the HL as being one of the projects brought about by the revival of University Circle even though we all know it came about because of the failure of the dual hub plan to get enough local support.

Well since we're throwing out odd & interesting stats we read today, the last coach we had that won more games than they lost was Schottenheimer.
  7. ^Agreed, it's like giving saying the 94 is responsible for everything in Beachwood and Highland Hills and ignoring 271.

Not to mention most of last year if Richardson was on the field, 80% of the time he got the ball. If they had a play where he didn't get the ball, they pulled him out. It got kindof predictable. If they'd left him in during a few more passes and run the ball a few more times with Hardesty it would have helped both the passing and the run game.

Ok, split is too strong, but he'll pull some votes that would otherwise have gone to Kasich.

They've already got plenty of room under the cap though.

They'll probably split the Tea Party vote then and make it easier on Fitz.

They'd have to hold the NFL equivalent of a fire sale to get down to Jacksonville's level. They haven't won a game yet. They can't get any separation between receivers and defenders, the receivers seem to have trouble catching the ball when it does get to them and they've got mediocre QBs, so the pass isn't going to be effective this year. The line can't open a hole to run through so regardless of who is carrying the run isn't going to be effective this year. Though he did well last week, they've got a mediocre kicker, so we'd have to get close to make a field goal. The defense has looked pretty good so far but the Ravens weren't even healthy. IMO we're not far above Jacksonville's level.

I think I'm coming around on this one, but I still would have liked to see a current player included in the trade. Even some washed up has been that we didn't really want. It would have shown that they cared about this season.
  14. And we'll probably never see a rail expansion with the current board either because if they really wanted it Calabrese would either push for it or leave. Regardless, we'll get improved bus connections in the study area which it really needs now.
  15. The smaller roads along Chester that don't have lights still allow for right turns to give access to the neighborhood.
  16. Yup, devided highway with sound walls and limited intersections, but it doesn't have exit ramps so it's not a freeway. Just like route 8 through Boston Heights, oh wait, they added ramps to that didn't they? So it's like 224 in Akron, no wait it has exits too until it gets out to the middle of nowhere. 14 through Streetsboro doesn't have exits and is attached to the end of a freeway like this, but it's not divided and doesn't have sound walls to try and hide the WalMart and other big box stores so it's at least trying to interact with its neighborhood. SOM Center in Eastlake is a decent comparison and it forms an obvious barrier to the neighborhood but at least it includes a bike lane and leaves out the walls.
  17. ^half of them are rental trucks so it's no surprise they don't know the exact height of the vehicle but still that's pretty pathetic.

Years ago a friend of my grandparents was pulled over for going 35 in a 40 on her way to church by a patrolman because she was "impeding traffic". The patrolman by the way went to the same church. A week later my grandfather (the pastor of said church) preached on legalism and how we shouldn't let a strict interpretation of rules keep us from being kind to others. He never mentioned the patrolman's name, but everyone knew who he was talking about. True Story.

IMO, each regime has come in and kept some crappy overrated players while trading and cutting some of their best players.

    I had the same thought!
  21. Is that even doable? Maple Heights only joined RTA grudgingly in the beginning. Basically yes they can drop out but it would be worse for Euclid residents to have no transit than RTA. The only advantage to them dropping out is if they could join Laketran or form their own transit agency. As far as the RedLine/Healthline extension study goes, there was surprisingly good turnout at the public meeting in Euclid. Most of the audience seemed fairly ignorant about the issue but there were a few people with interesting ideas too.
