Off Topic
Ok, so I took a few photos over the last month in downtown Cleveland but never got around to posting them because similar photos of the hill on the convention center and FEB had already been posted. Since those photos aren't here anymore I decided to skim through my photobucket and see if I still had them (it looks like I deleted them). While I was skimming though I noticed I have a few albums of old photos and started looking through them. So as a result of this website crashing I'm sitting at my desk crying while looking at pictures of my dad who died 5 years ago.

Cleveland: Wind Turbine Construction News
^If I recall correctly, there's a wind farm on a large lake in Sweden that's been cited a few times as an example for the great lakes.

Ignore Function
Yes, there is already an ignore feature, but it's of limited use as you still see everyone else reply to the person you're ignoring. From my experience, the people that are most annoying often go away after a while anyway. (Sometimes with a little help from an admin.)

Premium Members Only Thread
For the record, I somehow ended up with some shiny red stars recently but never paid for them. If you're giving them out randomly now, then thank you very much for the kind gift. If not, then thanks for the brief premium experience.

Moving to Cleveland... where to live???
Or if you're so inclined, you can ride through Bratenahl on lakeshore where you'll see plenty of other riders, a few ginormous mansions and some pretty views of the lake in the distance. I will second everyone's comments about marginal being terrible. On a mountain bike with good shocks I managed to sustain a couple of sprained wrists from the potholes riding that way when I commuted by bike to downtown. As far as where to live; University Circle or Little Italy would probably be the closest and most convenient neighborhoods for your needs, but keep in mind that when we mention traffic or shorter commute times it doesn't compare to Chicago so don't limit your choices unnecessarily. The Coventry neighborhood of Cleveland Heights would be convenient and still close. Shaker Square has a lot of what you're looking for, but sometimes parking is limited (probably not an issue with your budget though)

Governor John Kasich
I'm skeptical of Kasich, but so far his tax change proposals don't sound too bad. Lower income taxes and sales taxes, but sales applies to services so for most people it'll be close to a wash. (It'll apply to all brackets, therefore slightly regressive, but that's to be expected.) Some businesses will pay more and others will pay less. (Small businesses will be the ones that pay more, but again that's expected.) It does sound like counties with higher sales taxes and transit systems will make out pretty well. (but at a loss of control over their rates) I don't like it, but compared to what I expected when I saw headlines, not to bad. (Obviously I have low expectations from Kasich.) I'll reserve further judgement till I've seen more information.

Cleveland: University Circle: Uptown (UARD)
Ah soil sucks, that makes sense then. Thanks.

Are caissons unusual for a project this size? I tend to associate them with much larger projects like towers and bridges.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
I agree with him on the machines, but unless you're riding the HL or Red line they're a non issue. How many years has it been since they were installed? Edit: Nevermind I looked it up. 4 years since they were installed and they're still a PITA.

Rethinking Transport in the USA
^based on recent statements each has made and their lack of desire to run for office, they both appear to want to sit on the sidelines and lobby, though I doubt either would turn it down if offered.

Pet Peeves!
Since you brought up chocolate, when a coworker puts a bowl of assorted miniture Hershey's that somehow is missing special dark. Milk chocolate isn't real chocolate.

General: Complete Streets, Road Diets, and Traffic Calming
There's a few smaller cities that kept freeways out on the edges of town but that might be as much because they're smaller cities as anything else. Madison WI, Sante Fe NM and Tallahassee FL are the first to come to mind.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
^I rarely read comments after articles but noticed that at least 75% of the comments were either that there's plenty of parking, or that a lack of parking is a good thing.

Hi, I'm from Ohio
If I recall correctly, all the squirrels in Kent State (and surrounding areas) are black as a result of a handful being imported in the 60s. They're sometimes more aggressive than native squirrels.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
I recall the reasons why from the last time we discussed it, but I still think it's a shame that RTA doesn't provide service to the IX Center.

Cleveland: Downtown Aquarium
This might get me to finally visit.

Cleveland: Downtown: Huntington Bank Field
To put it another way, how many potential events are we missing out on by not having a roof over the stadium? (I'd wager very few.) Of those events, are there really that many that couldn't fit into the Q or the Wolstein instead?

Cleveland: Downtown: Huntington Bank Field
^Is it weird that I still occasionally call the Jake "Gateway"? I agree that "Cleveland Browns Stadium" is a stupid name that I'll be ok with replacing.

Cleveland: University Circle (General): Development and News
I had wondered what was going to happen to the site when CIA left, but had assumed it would become residential. (Of course, residential or mixed use is still possible.)

East Cleveland: News & Discussion
The problem, as we've discussed previously in various threads, is that no one wants the down the hill portions of EC. What advantage is there for Cleveland in taking an area that instantly becomes one of the worst slums in the city? It would require significant funds from either the state or county that just don't exist right now.

Northeast Ohio / Cleveland: General Transit Thread
^I don't think it's a Federal rule, but they do have to charge extra when crossing county lines. Currently Laketran charges 3.75 for riders going downtown. (RTA's website says they charge 3.50 when crossing county lines) I don't know who's rule this is, or how much extra they have to charge.
-
Northeast Ohio / Cleveland: General Transit Thread
Laketran's busses are nice and fast, I took one this morning to Downtown and then transferred to the Healthline to get to University Circle. If Laketran ran a bus down 90 to MLK and then made a few stops around UC, they'd probably attract about as many riders as extending the Red Line/Healthline for far less money but would leave bypass Euclid and the Northeast side of East Cleveland (which would improve speed compared to the Healthline but reduce access).

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
^^Seriously? I'd just hit it with my car. That much cash would be more than enough to replace the car and pay any fines from driving on the sidewalk. Even if that doesn't break the glass, it'd break the frame holding it.

Northeast Ohio / Cleveland: General Transit Thread
Or split it in two and have one line between UC and downtown and another between UC and Euclid.

2014 Gubernatorial Election
Didn't Fitzgerald just get elected County Exec? I greatly dislike anyone running for higher office during their first term at their current position.
