  1. He's talking about commuter trains.
  2. If you're talking about the University tower building, it's been under construction for a month or so and is being renovated to provide senior and disabled apartments. (It previously was used for section 8 I believe, but I'm not positive about that.) The VA has nothing to do with it other than being neighbors. http://www.famicos.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=8&Itemid=46
  3. I suppose it's nice to have a website up, but I agree that it's short on information. (Map: I ride a bike through the neighborhood everyday but am not entirely sure where the limits of the neighborhood start and end.) When you do get it updated let us know. While I'm thinking of Maps, does anyone know why Google streetview totally skipped over Waterloo or how to get that fixed?
  4. Did we just start planning a UO meet up in February?
  5. Could RTA buy the Day's Inn on Brecksville Road, demolish it, then put in a park-n-ride there? Not only does that give RTA a park-n-ride at the last existing stop before the 77F gets on I-77, but it is also the northernmost section of National Park System-owned track. The Cuyahoga Valley Scenic RR terminates 1.5 miles south of there, but could extend its services northward to Brecksville Road without having to acquire anymore right of way from CSX. And it would also allow CVSR to expand its parking capacity at the Cleveland end, which is already overstretched despite expanding its Rockside Station for $1 million in 2011. I encourage GCRTA to dialogue with the National Park Service, CVSR and City of Independence.

Having stairways that look frightening is annoying too. I don't want to feel like I'm on my way to the dungeon when I'm just going down to the lobby.
  7. If the Healthline stations had been built as rail stations with a 3 car length, no reconstruction would be needed. Obviously they weren't built that way, but I still feel they SHOULD have been.

If I hear one more person in the office mispronounce Chipotle I'm going to start smacking people.

Don't forget her insurance just went up quite a bit too.
  10. In my humble, amatuer, and probably ignorant opinion, there appear to be multiple causes to the bunching we're seeing on the Healthline. -Traffic Lights not giving the Healthline priority as they were supposedly designed to do -Overcrowding on the Healthline buses causes stops to take longer than intended, which then makes that bus fall progressively further behind, making it more crowded when it picks extra people up at the next stop thus causing a negative feedback loop Now traffic lights as most of us know are up to the city, but probably would work better if more people (including RTA) were screaming about them. Yes, a streetcar or lightrail running on the street would have the same issue. Now as far as overcrowding slowing down the busses, that is where RTA's choice of busses over trains is hurting timeliness. If a train was overcrowded, they could just add more cars. With the articulated busses they've got, that's not an option. The other advantage of a train is that generally they're designed with stations further apart. If the Healthline had half as many stops, it would have half as many overly long delays sitting while people got on and off. Even if we accept busses for the Healthline, it's pretty obvious that the stations are too numerous and close together.
  11. Massive Improvement!!! I'm very impressed.

On the bus ride home last night I spotted a couple fish flopping on 90 near the e 55th st pier. We lost power for most of the night but it came back on a few minutes ago. Newsnet5 is saying there's wind damage to the rock hall.

Yep, I get the sarcasm. Your message was my opening to comment how close this team was to having a 4-4 record during the toughest part of their schedule. Winning teams make those plays. No, winning teams still drop passes. The difference is that they can win in spite of those drops. We're not yet at a point where we can win if something small goes wrong.
  14. No, the problem is they sent a bus to do a train's job.
  15. Now that's what we like to hear.

Just ran into Valerie Bertinelli on Euclid Ave. She's still hot and actually in Cleveland, but surprisingly short.

^From a technical point of view, building a demonstration drone isn't really that big of a step up from building a remote control plane. Stepping up to building something that works as well (or close to as well) as a Predator drone is much more significant. There are a lot of unanswered questions on the capability of such an aircraft to accurately use its weapons, to provide accurate geographical information, to hide using stealth technology or to communicate in situations where signal jamming is employed.
  18. ^RTA has noted in the past (I believe in both this thread and in public statements after NextConnect was released) that their system defaults to the regular schedule in situations where they aren't able to obtain actual vehicle locations. They often cannot obtain actual locations if the settings aren't correct on the computer on the vehicle. If I recall correctly several of us speculated that RTA just set up NextConnect to show that the data is available in hopes that someone would add the raw data to an app or website that could more clearly provide the information.

Some school districts that passed levies to pay for full day kindergarten are still doing full day.

We met a lot of friends with kids and ended up with a playgroup with folks my wife met at "story time" at the library.

Or at least delayed the inevitable. He probably guaranteed himself employment till the end of the season with yesterday's win. Now he's got to prove he deserves to stay at the wheel for next year.

I wasn't intending to watch but I'm glad I did. It looked the Browns got more than a few lucky breaks, managed to take advantage of the Bengals errors, kept the penalties to a minimum (Probably better than they've done since Mangini) and only had one turnover. Offense looked mediocre, which is sadly a huge improvement. Richardson looked hurt for a while before they pulled him, I'm glad they did so that they could show that they do have some depth with Hardesty as a backup. Cooper and Gordon looked pretty good, let's try to get the ball to them more often and to Little a bit less often. Defense showed up for the first time in a few weeks, Haden was nice to have back and Sheldon Brown looked better than he has all season.

Agreed. And when they break (and they will) it's not a big deal to replace them. The same if someone steals them.

Was I the only one that found myself doing extra work yesterday just so that I could write the date more often on reports? (10/11/12)
  25. You realize you're not required to remind us that you're old, right? :-P
