2012 Olympic Games in London
It was very ... um ... British? I keep seeing people retweeting a comment that they could've done a better job by just showing a video of the Beijing opening ceremony. I actually liked that they didn't try to compete with what the Chinese did, they would have failed even worse than they did, but tried to go in a different direction. A bit silly at times, but not terrible.

2012 Olympic Games in London
Yeah that's exactly why I wish I would have watched that event. I think it's technically the first event of the games and is meant to highlight the host city. First events were soccer games that started a few days before the opening ceremony. I have a couple of cousins that live on that side of London and one has been whining on Facebook about the noise from the crowds and how she's been late to work the last couple days because of "____ tourists that can't figure out how to just get onto the ____ing tube!"

Human Transit: The Book. The Blog.
I've been reading his blog for a few months now. He makes a lot of interesting points about how transit systems should work toward a more integrated network and how they can do that. He also has covered repeatedly how spreading out bus stops can decrease running time and thus increase frequency, which I've suggested to GCRTA on more than one occasion myself.

ODOT Policy Discussion
Well if anyone is still in a survey taking mood, you can also go to http://www.neohiotravelsurvey.com/Welcome.aspx and take the survey at the bottom of the page. It's only a handful of questions, but they do have a comment block. (Their full survey which requires being randomly invited took me about 20 minutes and was much more in depth.)

^the other advantage we've got over last year is that we're not starting a completely new style of offense without the use of a training camp to teach it to everyone.

Looks like Asphalt to me, I've heard nothing about brick crosswalks before, but I wasn't paying attention that closely.

Show a pic of yourself!
From my experience, dress codes are always violated a little bit. If a workplace has a strict dress code, people will follow it most of the time but push their luck a little bit till they get called on it. If a workplace has a really relaxed dress code, people will relax and generally follow it, but eventually push their luck a bit.

So is the streets cape with the medians and brick crosswalks included as well or is that just to make the rendering pretty? The median shown already exists, but doesn't have a brick crosswalk through it. http://goo.gl/maps/Ier4

^I've done that before too, but didn't consider the cleanup to be simpler (about the same IMO) plus it requires access to a sauce pan.

Cleveland: Cleveland State University: Development and News
The center building which is to be 5 stories is under construction and the elevator shaft is visible on the right side of the photo above. (Next to the green CSU banner.) I haven't been by there in a couple weeks, but the steel framing for the ground floor was finished or close to it then.

^I used to have a pretty good opinion of Starbucks, but it seems to me that either their quality is going down, or my tastes are changing. (Probably both)

Portage County: Development and News
I was going to say I didn't think the University has grown that much in the last 20 years, and there was certainly plenty of underage and public drinking going on then too. (I went to Akron but most of my friends and a couple girlfriends went to Kent.) I do really like the design though, I hope they don't have to change it too much to get Kent to approve.

Compared to the old building (whose traffic court I visited a couple times when I was young and stupid) it looks amazing.

To clarify your perspective on that sentiment, contemplate the alternative. :-) Staying young and sexy till I die in my sleep at 90? I think I could live with that.

I'm far more interested in what happens in the building on Paine and even more importantly to the surface lots surrounding it.

Pet Peeves!
You can't now, but they could add carriage rides just as easily as somewhere in Cleveland, if they felt it added something positive to Crocker Park. In fact you could argue they'd have an easier time adding them since they're a lot closer to farm land where they could keep the horses. I don't think it adds uniqueness, it adds quaintness, which is not the same thing.

Real estate in DS and Tremont (Cleveland)
I would guess, based on the photos, that the house in Tremont has been maintained, but never extensively remodeled. Which means based on the age, that the house probably hasn't had its wiring replaced (meaning a home owner would pay more in insurance) hasn't had insulation installed (meaning a homeowner would pay more in heating/cooling, plus you'll hear all the noise from everyone in neighborhood) hasn't had central air installed (meaning a homeowner would have to keep a few window AC units blocking up their windows all summer) plus who knows what other maintenance issues that wouldn't/couldn't be found till it's actually inspected. That's not to say that all that couldn't be done, but if the price is surprisingly low compared to its neighbors there's probably a reason.

Affordable apartments around CSU downtown?
I've heard a few negatives about the Chesterfield too, apparently everyone has which is why they're a little cheaper and allow shorter leases. (I looked at an apartment there a few years ago.) They tend to cater to students and the recently divorced that can't commit to paying a higher rent or can't commit to a longer lease but don't want to compromise on location. If you just want somewhere to sleep within walking distance of CSU and downtown, it's fine (CSU has a pool in the Rec Center if you're really bothered by the lack of pool maintenance), but if you're looking for a nice place that you'd be ok with living in for a few years, or as in your case you're willing to ride the bus for a few minutes, you could probably do better.

It was the Lorain-Carnegie that we talked about having poor design for cyclists, I don't mind the Detroit-Superior as much.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
A few weeks ago a friend on facebook mentioned he was going to the Indians game and the casino and wished there was somewhere he could drive to on the edge of the city and ride a train into downtown so he didn't have to pay for parking. When I suggested taking the Blue Line from Shaker (he was driving up from the Hudson area) he said he'd heard of a rapid before but didn't realize it was a train and not just a bus that claims to move rapidly. This is a friend that's lived in Northeast Ohio since at least the early 80's.
