It seems like half times I go through one of those lines I get stuck behind the idiot with a bottle of booze that has to be carded and then wants to try to figure out how to write a check for their damn groceries. I was once behind a lady that tried to pay for more food than I could eat in a month with nickels and dimes.
  2. True, but now he's been warned.

At least there were a few questions about public transportation.
  4. He's new here, no need to mention that thread.

It's on E.83rd and Carnegie my mistake but it's an under the radar development that is almost completed... It was built on the old swift dry cleaner space. http://www.freshwatercleveland.com/forgood/pncfairfaxconnection032212.aspx http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,3594.3750.html How is this project considered TOD??? It isn't. However it's not off topic because it's being discussed as an example of something that might or might not work as TOD.
  6. Was that the one-story brick building that sat up to the street? I think you're talking about the old art building.

Didn't the state just do a big study of transportation preferences under Strickland? Have people's opinions really changed that much in the last couple years?
  8. Ok thanks, and regardless if this looks suburban to some people it is undoubtedly better than looking at a surface lot. The Doan Electric building was nicer looking than the condo esq buildings, but it'll look a lot nicer without the surface lots. There was also an art building that came down, but it didn't interact with the street nicely so it's not a huge loss.
  9. I just wish the HL only had 9 stops between public square and UC like the Dual Hub had. It would be a lot faster.
  10. I don't work in the building anymore so I don't hear as much about it as I used to, but as of last winter the plan was to replace the roof and put up scaffolding in 2012 and do the skin in 2013.
  11. Good luck in Cleveland and at CSU. Kindof... You can take Abbey ave to Lorain and then there's a pedestrian/bike path on the side of the Lorain/Carnegie bridge that I've ridden across but I'd never recommend to anyone. I guess both Abbey and Carnegie are getting new bike lanes this year, but I haven't been keeping up with the status on that. May I ask why you wouldn't recommend the bridge? Carnegie looks like it would be a fairly direct path, I'll look into those bike lanes.. Traffic seems to ignore the speed limit and treats Carnegie like a freeway so riding on the road is a little too dangerous for me plus the curb is about 8 inches high (high enough you're in danger of catching pedals if you're close to it). The sidewalk is too narrow to pass pedestrians or oncoming cyclists without getting close to that high curb. It's certainly doable (I'm sure someone on here does regularly ride it), but there's a reason it's scheduled to be redone.
  12. There's a perception on the train that you're separated from the neighborhood you're passing through that you don't have on the bus. It's a very different experience riding the Blue line through kinsman than riding the bus. Just like walking down a street at night by yourself is a different experience than riding on the bus. It's all perception. For a person that doesn't ride the bus or train regularly, asking them to use one mode of transportation to get to the casino and a different one to get back is a waste of time, they're not going to do that much research if they have another realistic option. They might do it if parking was more expensive, but there's still plenty of cheap parking downtown. Plus there are taxis.
  13. Isn't it always that way? A couple of ladies from my office stopped by before work this morning and said they didn't like the layout of the interior, but they'll still go again sometime after the crowd thins a bit. The first negatives I've heard.
  14. ^that's great for those of us familiar with RTA, but for someone that's not as familiar, asking them to take a different mode of transportation that requires a bus ride through a "less desirable" part of town is probably going to be a non-option.

  16. RTA did something like this for Medical Mutual this past year. They came in for a day and educated employees on how to use transit, set up routes for them to take, and offered free 5-day passes so people could try it out. I don't know if they did this for any other downtown employers. From friends I've heard they did something similar at Sherwin Williams.

^considering our receivers though, that might take till mid-season.

^I generally tell people that I sit in a cubicle and play on the internet all day. They generally just nod in understanding and drop the subject. Technically I'm not lying, I am on the internet, I'm just not mentioning that I have other programs that I wrote running in the background.
  19. Yes, Sohio got bought out by BP, so the building changed names too.
  20. ^I like your "crappy" pic. Or at least the subject.

Agreed. There's a lot people in their 30s and 40s that haven't looked at the rules since the 80s or 90s. The rules have changed a little and they've forgotten enough of the rules that haven't changed that they should be required to test again.

We should've taken my Grandpa's keys earlier than we did. Fortunately no one but him was hurt when he drove into a ditch. (He broke his arm, shoulder, and ribs.) The thing is he never really showed us any signs that he couldn't handle driving before the accident.
  23. ^That's been on the drawing board for a few years, I'm guessing Perk Park helped though.
  24. ^Agreed, I had to sit through a couple of conferences in their ballroom and they only could get about half the bulbs working in the lights, the carpet really showed its age, and the elevator situation was pretty pathetic considering the stairwell was dingy and cramped too. A renovation there was long overdue.
