If the political momentum was swinging in the opposite direction of you lean at the time of said convention, you might be in for 20 years of hurt.

Who defines incompetence? Last Nov the voters determined he was competent. If the voters have now discovered that they were mistaken, and he is incompetent, they should be letting their State Reps and State Sens know that they disagree with the direction the State is moving. Without the approval of the legislature the Gov can't do too much damage, irregardless of his level of competence. That's the point of checks and balances. SB5 barely passed the State Senate because a portion of the Republicans were willing to stand up against it. If the same Senators that voted against SB5 continue to defy the Gov and are joined by a couple of their colleagues that are facing reelection in 2012, the damage Kasich can cause will be minimized. If we allow recalls, then we put our elected representatives into a state of perpetual campaign which, in my opinion, is worse for our state than allowing a incompetent Governor to remain in office. As for his budget, yes, I think it's screwed up, but if it passes through the legislature without serious changes, that's the legislature's fault, not the Governor's.

Most of what he's done is what he campaigned on doing and was elected to do. I didn't vote for him, and don't agree with some of what he's done, but just because I disagree with him, doesn't change the fact that he won the election. To put it another way, I wish our president had taken a more liberal stand on healthcare than he did, even if it pissed off Republicans more than he already did. It would have been unpopular and guaranteed little to no chance of reelection, but I think he should have done it. Kasich is doing what he thinks is right for Ohio, no matter the damage it does to him. I would admire his political courage if I didn't disagree with his position. I would prefer that politians put their positions before themselves. Sadly it looks like the only politicians doing this right now are the ones on the right. If he had run as a moderate, then started doing what he's been doing the last few months, I could see the reason for a recall. But that's not what happened. He ran as an anti-union fiscal conservative. That's what he's been. (Though I think SB5 went a little further than anyone expected prior to the election.)

I understand that people have serious disagreements with the governor, but recalling him seems like a waste of money and effort. I'd rather see those that disagree with an elected official put their time into trying to minimize his/her impact, and setting up someone to replace them. IMO we should remove officials for committing crimes, not for making unpopular policies/laws.
  5. ^For that matter, if Ontario absolutely has to stay open through the square for RTA, could the whole thing become "buses only"? I'm not sure how I feel about a T, I'll have to think about that one.
  6. To clarify my eye roll up thread, I think that the Euclid Project was a total success, but the Healthline was only successful in that it managed to bring in federal/state funds for Euclid. Otherwise it under delevered IMO. If BRT is what we have to take to get infrastructure improvements, then it's acceptable. If cities want to push for BRT so that they can come up with funds to fix their roads, they should, but transit agencies like RTA should be fighting for modes of transportation that significantly improve the ride (whether frequency, comfort, speed or cost), and if they have to settle for BRT as a compromise, so be it. IMO I think from the Healthline we've seen that BRT is only a marginal improvement to the ride.
  7. ^the age is 6 if anyone is interested. At least assuming that this page is up to date. http://www.riderta.com/cs_FAQs.asp?print=1#1
  8. I'm happy about a rebuilt Euclid, $200 million is a lot for a bus route.

Nevermind. I never noticed there was a little button to shrink up the top of the page and hide those links. Apparently I accidently hit it yesterday.
  10. If anyone is curious, NOACA has the numbers on their website for average weekday ridership 2005-2008. (The closest I've thing I've found to total ridership) http://www.noaca.org/05transitguide.pdf http://www.noaca.org/06transitguide.pdf http://www.noaca.org/07transitguide.pdf http://www.noaca.org/08transitguide.pdf In 2004, before construction on Euclid started, the #6 bus route on Euclid boarded 2,941,560 riders (vs about 4.1 million riders in 2010 on the HealthLine). Gee, I'd call that an improvement. $200 million well spent
  11. Hopefully they'll learn from RTA's screw up and turn down the volume right away instead of irritating every pedestrian, driver and rider for a few months. :-D

Did anyone else just lose the link to the unread messages at the top of each page? (Is this your subtle way of telling me that I've been on here for way longer than my lunch break and need to get back to work?)
  13. He posted it on the last page.
  14. ^oops
  15. ^Is there an estimate on when the fare machines will be put at an adult height?
  16. No thank you!
  17. Correction, DC Metro allows them by policy. http://www.capmetro.org/riding/safe_riding.asp
  18. I still don't like the path in the SW quadrant that runs east to west around the fountain. It should be diagonal so that the foot traffic coming from Tower City can cross that quadrant without crossing the lawn. I know you disagree, but I think it makes more sense to cater to the foot traffic between Tower City and Superior/Ontario/the Mall than to cater to the foot traffic between the Hotel and the Soldiers & Sailors monument. Otherwise with the addition of some trees, I like your design infinitly better than anything Field came up with.
  19. It's the cost of a monthly pass. I've ridden a couple dozen times and have never been checked.
  20. ^Well if he's willing to change his tune on rail maybe we can get Kasich to ask for money to get us a train that sees daylight.
  21. ^Most transit systems I've ridden look the other way if it's in a travel mug of some sort, though I can't recall any actually having a policy that allows them. A couple years ago I can recall someone on the bus dropping a 20oz cup of cappucino or latte and it smelled up the entire bus and made the whole bus floor brown and sticky. I'm guessing the driver of that bus probably enforced the "no drinks" policy for a while after that incident. You may have just run into someone that's had a similar experience recently.
  22. http://www.cleveland.com/morris/index.ssf/2011/03/cleveland_as_mother_city_is_a.html Cleveland as 'mother city' is a concept that must somehow return to vogue: Phillip Morris When East Cleveland sought bids for its residential garbage-hauling contract last year, the biggest trash-collecting operation in the county wasn't allowed to compete for the contract. Why? Because cities like Cleveland aren't allowed to haul other cities' trash. Either a city does its own dirty work or it bids the work out to companies. Even if a neighboring city such as Cleveland, with its army of garbage men, can do the work more cheaply, state law appears to block it.
  23. East 4th has heated sidewalks/roadway with glycol filled plastic hose/pipe run under the sidewalks and roadway section, so there is precedent for using this type of technology downtown. They used the same technology under portions of the plaza at the Federal building too.
  24. ^Wouldn't we have to have a curb by the bus stops? I don't know how low the bus ramps can go, but I imagine they'd have to have some kind of curb just to remain ADA accessible.
