Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
Probably a bus lane and a car lane, like it is now.

Governor John Kasich
I think that depends on your perspective. We could just as easily make the argument that the one that wants all of us to help out as a community is just as generous. In either case I think we've moved way off subject.

Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
I love some of the designs you guys have come up with, but can I add a request that we have a straight path across the square from Tower City to the Mall? There's no reason to make people zigzag around the sidewalks when a good portion of the people walking through the square are just trying to get from the rapid to their offices over near E 9th and St Clair. The lawn that Burnham posted upthread looks like an obstical to me that would just encourage people to go around the square instead of through it. I would think a diagonal path through could make it more inviting.

Governor John Kasich
^ I don't know. I think he was pretty vague about what he was going to cut and how he was going to balance the budget during the campaign. (That was the primary reason I voted against him. I didn't like the idea of giving someone permission to cut the budget without telling me where the cuts are from.) That said I also agree with most of what he's done (with some notable exceptions) but I think he's done a poor job of selling us on some of his changes. That might be partially due to him being new to the office though. I agree with HTS that he's been elected and we need to deal with it and judge him in a few years.

Suburban Sprawl News & Discussion
Interesting perspective. I think there's a lot more to Detroit's issues attracting talent than just the sprawl, but that aspect shouldn't be ignored.

The anti-rail hitmen are still out there
Honestly, I can't figure out why you spend so much time on this site. To challenge groupthink and the notion that urbanists must be leftists? Because I'm a glutton for punishment? Because there are people on these boards who post interesting development news about my local area? Who knows. Thank you for being here. I appreciate your opinions even when I disagree with them because you often justify your reasoning and make me think. Where are the voices demanding it?

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
Considering the weather looks like it'll be perfect, Thursday looks like a good day to ride the bike to work so I can avoid the crowds trying to catch a bus. I've had to sit next to drunk high school kids the last couple of St Patrick's days and that's been enough. Either that or call off sick and go enjoy the nice weather.

Georgia in the vicinity of Ft. Stewart, home of the 3rd Infantry Division
Thanks for the memories, I lived in Glennville from 2003-2005. Middle of nowhere and it smells like onions 6 months out of the year.

In Ohio it's legal to ride down a sidewalk, it's dangerous for you and pedestrians, but it's legal.

I've seen several studies quoted that show estate taxes have minimal effect on people's choice of residence. For example: http://ideas.repec.org/p/ecm/nawm04/111.html I would say that weather and the lack of income tax is just as big a reason for wealthy old people to move to Florida. Considering we don't have the weather they do, or the tourism that comes with that weather to support the state allowing us to eliminate the income tax, wealthy old people are going to move to Florida regardless of the estate tax.

Governor John Kasich
As has been mentioned already in this thread, the governor can only be removed if impeached for committing a crime.

The anti-rail hitmen are still out there
A quarter of the victems in London were on the bus, not the train.

While we might all support firing non-performers and under performers, lets be honest it doesn't really happen. I agree that SB5 doesn't address this issue, but don't pretend that it's not an issue.

Way ahead of you.

The anti-rail hitmen are still out there
What a moron. I was happy to see that most of the comments on the article were calling him out on his ignorance.

While the discussion of the value of teachers is interesting, isn't there a more appropriate thread for it?

Place to live between Mentor and Solon
Willoughby may be further from Solon, but for getting to Mentor you could save gas and take the bus. It seems more trouble than it's worth to take a bus from anywhere else we've mentioned to Mentor (and I'm feeling way too lazy today to look at RTA's website for busses going to Solon.)

I'm voting for the teens. Sure the first couple years don't technically end in "teen", but by 2020 I'll probably have forgotten most of what happened this year so who cares?

I think we should celebrate Presidents' day around the birthday of some president born in nicer weather.
