I think I'd like to see democrats agree to come in and vote in exchange for some changes to the bill. I view running away as just about as bad as filibustering everything. It seems like that's happening with the JobsOhio bill, and I hope that the ability to cooperate in order to minimize damage continues.

I don't have a fender either so I've been alternating between steering around the puddles of melted snow and taking the sidewalk in places where it looks dryer. There were spots on the lakefront bike path where there are so many trees the path stays shaded all day long and on Wednesday there was still about 6 inches of snow.

I don't really know Rocky River, but I know a good portion of the residents in Willowick are in their 70s still in their 1950's bungalows, with a few younger families, like mine, sprinkled throughout. Eastlake seems to be the same. Some neighborhoods in Willoughby look like they're only about 20 years behind on the decline.

A significant factor in these towns shrinking is that they're primarily post war sprawl and a large portion of the homes there are still owned by the original residents. As they age they become empty nesters, and then eventually widows/widowers. It makes sense that the population numbers were higher in the 70's than now as the original residents' kids were still at home then. I would guess you'd see a similar pattern in virtually any town that went through significant growth post war. The neighborhoods that are booming now are going to go through the same decline 30-40 years from now.
  5. While I believe in rail, this to me makes no sense. Why would one from the west or southside completely pass up the Casino to park at the Muni lot and take a 5 minute ride over to the casino. Why not build park and rides around 25th, or get on the rapid at Brookpark and take it into Tower City where the Casino for the most part is going to be located. For Eastsiders, why not just take the train into tower city also. My point basically is that there is already a"Casino Station" in Tower City. If someone wants to ake a train to the Casino, it is already there. From my house it takes longer to get to Windermere than it takes to get to the Muni lot.

I don't think the quote was saying that it will be distracting to the officer or affect his ability to do his duties, but it will certainly be one of the factors in his mind (and many other officers' minds) when Kasich runs for reelection.

I decided it was finally warm enough and rode all the way in for the first time this morning. I'm not going to admit how long it took me, but I made it. So much more fun than going to the gym to get some exercise.
  9. I don't think the speed was an issue. He didn't support it because Strickland and Obama did.
  10. Looks like insurance is cheap in Ohio.
  11. Shh! I'm hoping no one notices that so they don't take away my bus. :-D Seriously, I believe there's some kind of agreement between Laketran and RTA, but I have no idea where I heard that.
  12. Sure there is, I took the 12 this morning and the 39F this afternoon. RTA 30 (from Windermere, but only on nights and weekends), 39 (from downtown) 39F (from downtown, but only during rush hour) Laketran 3 (between Wickliffe and Mentor, but only on weekdays) 6 (between Wickliffe and Mentor, but only on weekdays) 12 (from downtown, but only during rush hour)

All of the houses I've rented over the years required me to get my own mower and mow the lawn myself.

I like the look of the update, but the quote button and quick reply aren't working for me in chrome.

  16. There's no reason under the suggestion the KJP made to leave Ontario open.
  17. ^Wasn't that the plan anyway when they built the WHD transit center? (Not that it isn't a good plan)
  18. I don't know about any one else, but I wasn't suggesting removing them from the square just from Ontario. If you'll notice the first map you posted doesn't have any streetcars dividing the city's front yard. It shouldn't be that difficult to adjust routes to avoid Ontario through the middle of the square.
  19. I don't see how it would be that much worse to move the busses to W 6th/Prospect instead of having them go through Ontario. That's just as close to the station in TC isn't it?

    Seen it, it wasn't good.
  21. This is supportive? I'd hate to see hostile.

I've realized over the last few months that when watching sports, I actually prefer a slightly one sided game over a really close one. Not so much a blow out, but I want to have an idea who's going to win going into the 4th quarter. It keeps me from getting too frustrated. If the game comes down to the last play, I'm really excited and then often let down when the team I'm cheering for loses. I like to be let down easy. And if the team I'm cheering for is going to win, I don't want to feel like they just got lucky on the last play. As an example the Super Bowl was perfect for me this year. Pittsburgh was behind the whole time, but after the first quarter and a half, it's not like they didn't look like they belonged there. It was close enough that I knew Pittsburgh had a chance, but once Mendenhall fumbled, I knew it would take a miracle for the Steelers to win.

I've really been enjoying "an idiot abroad" on the science channel. No idea why a travel show produced by Ricky Gervais is on the Science Channel, but that's beside the point. Still a funny show.
  24. ^I can't imagine there's any way that the house will go along with those numbers, but if you ask for $53B and compromise and we only get half of that, it's still a big improvement. Perhaps someone is finally teaching the President how to negotiate.
