Wait a minute we support the rural area's already. You know that and I know that, but the rural folks may not, and either way, it's rare to find voters willing to support higher taxes that don't directly benefit them. I do like the idea of trying to get this on the ballot for 2012. Being a presidential election year I imagine that voter turnout will be higher giving this a better chance. It seems to me that in most off year elections the majority of voters are angry old folks that don't want to pass anything.

How about when your boss is checking in on you to make sure you're working hard after she's given notice. "Yes, I'm busy. Of course I'm busy. I'm busy brown-nosing YOUR boss so I can get your job after you leave."

More cost for the unit, less cost for labor. Price wise they're similar in the end, but with the high volume system you don't have to move walls or fix as much plaster, but unless it's installed by someone that really knows what they're doing you end up with uneven heating/cooling and it feels breezy in the house as the air comes out so much faster.

It would probably be cheapest (short term) to replace the radiators and continue using the old furnace. Try to find used ones locally as European ones may require different fittings (metric sized pipes and such.) If no one has bothered to replace the 1927 boiler, there is a good chance it does still work. They built things to last back then. Obviously you'll want to find out for sure if it does work before investing in radiators though. While this is the only option that will give you possibility of central air, be prepared for sticker shock. The labor for adding ductwork to an old house is going to be in the thousands. Incinerating your own trash is against code in many places, so double check whether this is even legal where you are. Another option to consider would be replacing the old furnace with a new high efficency boiler. That way you could continue to use the old radiators, and with a tax credit for installing high efficiency, you could save a few bucks. While it would cost a lot up front, it might save you money vs. using the 83 year old furnace you've currently got.

Well the new Iphone sounds like a small improvement, slightly better antenna and resolution. Though the gyroscope looks interesting.
  6. There's always the corner of E 4th and Euclid after "Bodies" moves out.
  7. Well said. Sure it could be done, but it wouldn't be as cheap as telling us to watch out.
  8. ^Just to add my opinion to all the others, if you want to make the stupid anouncements, why do it so often? How about that gets played after leaving one stop, so you only hear each once per trip? For example if I'm taking the Red line from Windermere to TC, mention no food or drinks when the train leaves Superior. Tell me to be discreet in my phone conversations when we're leaving University Circle. Tell me to keep my radio turned down when we're leaving E 79. Then thank me for riding as we're pulling into TC. As far as announcing what else is at the stop, if the announcer guy can't spit out the name of the stop, that you can connect to the Healthline or Blue/Green line here (if applicable), and a point of interest in 5 or 6 seconds, the announcement is too long and stops being informative and starts being annoying. As for the "Bus is turning" announcements, I still think it's an insult to pedestrians that RTA thinks we should watch out for your busses when we have the right of way. But since you insist on making the announcments, why not make them shorter? I have yet to hear the entire announcement when I wasn't on the bus because by the time half the announcment is made the bus has already made the turn and is half a block down the street. Why not just "watch out, coming thru"?

It is collapsible. Ok, well I didn't notice that. Thanks. In that case it may stay.

I said no, but if it were collapsable or only on the main page that would be fine.

Grumpy...sounds like you need that kiddie leash system. LOL We have one. He figured out how to unhook it. The wife says I'm not allowed to just duct tape him to a tree.

^There are similar splash areas in a few parks around so I'm guessing they aren't horribly expensive in comparison to other playground equipment. My wife and I like it when parks put a small fence around the playground so you can get away with taking your eyes off of your kid for a second and not worry that the damn 2 year old is sprinting full speed for the parking lot for the 13th time because he's obsessed with "vroom vrooms".

I agree that the economy is going to be Kasich's primary point, but I think that he can convince a lot of voters that Strickland hasn't done enough jobs wise for the state, that our taxes are too high, and that the state government is too large and inefficient.

Whether peak oil is exaggerated or not, Europe, Asia, and the more developed portions of South America have diversified their transportation and energy. This gives them much greater flexibility so a peak oil situation or just a price spike like we had a couple years ago would be less damaging to their overall economy. At this point, the US economy is far too dependant on the price of oil because we have all our eggs in one barrel.

I just got a pop-up message on my computer with a big red blinking "Emergency" to let me know that a database I don't use on a server I don't have access to won't work between midnight and 6am on Sunday. Admittedly I wasn't really working hard, so the interuption was fairly insignificant, but still annoying.

    Congrats.

^I think you're underestimating Kasich. It's way too early to read that much into poll numbers.
  18. It's unfortunate that many of the linked events I've seen are already past. Is there any way to fix that? It seems silly to look in the Healthline thread and see something that is coming up in January of 2005.
  19. Too late, they've already been chain-sawing away.
  20. I have reservations about the tunnel too, but I'm going to wait and see and hope.

Well speaking of potty training my wife got frustrated with our 3 year old daughter and decided to try bribery. Now she gets 2 M&Ms everytime she uses the toilet. It seems to be working better than expected. Our 2 year old son got jealous because he wasn't getting any candy, so now he's decided to try and potty train himself. We might have them both off diapers at the same time soon. Of course then they'll be addicted to chocolate, but M&Ms are a lot cheaper than diapers.
  22. Laketran backs legislation for emergency transit funds By Brandon C. Baker [email protected] It is far from a surprise, but Laketran is in full support of legislation introduced this week that would provide $2 billion in emergency funding to transit systems across the country. http://www.news-herald.com/articles/2010/05/28/news/nh2561042.txt
  23. If the fixed costs are smaller because your car is fully depreciated and you have no finance charges, than the cost per mile is going to be far short of the AAA average. It might still be cheaper to rent, and certainly considering the lack of confidence you have in the reliability of the car it seems wiser to rent, but your comparison of the AAA average for driving and $0 for not driving was a false comparison.
  24. Dan you make a good point. Owning but not using a car is more expensive than not owning a car, and so Ken's math would only be correct if he sold the car, rather than leave it at home. It might still be cheaper to rent, but not as much cheaper as shown.
  25. Plus they've already planted some new ones.
