Akron Metro RTA-Commuter Rail
Really? You think that would be easier to accomplish than commuter rail between Canton, Akron and Cleveland?

Agreed, RTA seemed prepared for the mess that happened yesterday. Good job.

Akron Metro RTA-Commuter Rail
Yeah, but the question would be who would ride this theoretical line. Is there a demand for transit between Akron and Ravenna? Or between Akron and wherever that line would intersect the 3C? Or rather would there be a demand once there are some intercity rail lines to connect to? I guess we'll have to wait till the 3C and/or a Cleveland/Youngstown/Pittsburgh line starts up. If it did get built, I suppose it could make a nice commuter line for people coming from Ravenna, Kent, and Tallmadge on the East side of Akron and a few places on the West side too. (I can't recall where the line goes on the west side of town.)

Pet Peeves!
Isn't St. Patrick's Day actually a solemn, dignified occasion in Ireland? Seriously. I understand there's not all of the drunken carousing there, like here; and no singing of hokey songs like "When Irish Eyes are Smiling" or "Danny Boy"--(which I like, but it's actually an Irish/American song. The Eva Cassidy version--which, come to think of it, I believe I posted last year--is absolutely beautiful-- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=852gverKRPo&hl=en_US&fs=1&) From what I've heard, in Dublin they've started turning it into a bigger party the last few years because so many tourists were going over to visit and expecting a big party. Most people outside of Dublin don't celebrate the day in any way at all, or even consider it a holiday.

I'd rank Oktoberfest among those too.

Best Time Saving Cities: Cleveland in the Top 20
Another worthless list. I'm sure a few people would agree with all their methods, but most people will disagree with some portions of their methods. For example they use walkability as a criteria for "getting around". While walkability is important for an attractive green city, I don't think it is a timesaver.

Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
I think that in some people's minds there is a question, but considering the speed and price are pretty close even in the start-up version and the hours of operation for the 3C will probably be more convenient, it should draw a large number of riders from Greyhound even without the advantage of being a train that you can stand up and move around on.

Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
Just Columbus and Dayton, When you get off Amtrak you have that old person smell, when you get off Greyhound you have that unbathed homeless person smell. You can't forget to include that in the comparison. That and you can go use the restroom as needed.

Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
Just an FYI for anyone wondering about how fast a bus is, I spent about a minute looking at Greyhound.com and can see that of the 6 busses listed for tomorrow from Cleveland to Cincinnati, the average travel time is about 5 hours and 7 minutes. Using 250 miles (according to Google Maps) that works out to 48.8 MPH.

Pet Peeves!
My pet peeve of the day, people that want to criticize me for not wearing green for St. Patrick's day. People, I have an Irish accent and am an Irish citizen (Dual Citizenship). If you can't tell I'm proud to be Irish without looking at what I'm wearing on the 17th of March, than you aren't paying attention and I don't think my clothes today are going to make much of a difference.

Yeah, I'm not denying that the NIMBYs played a huge role in killing the Red line extension, but just consider this, when Joe Calabrese was hired in 2000, The Red line extension was already unpopular but not dead, RTA decided to let the project die A Blue line extension to Chagrin Highlands was in the planning stages, RTA did nothing till Shaker Heights started talking about an extension and even then is studying BRT An extension of the Waterfront line was being considered to form a loop, RTA has done nothing The Euclid Corridor subway concept had been shot down by NOACA, but a streetcar had not, we ended up with BRT. Am I the only one that sees a pattern here and thinks that RTA shouldn't be passing the blame to the residents of Berea? In the last decade all these plans have died and instead of more rail we've got busses. Is it any wonder why Jerry has to explain every few months that Joe Calabrese doesn't hate rail? He may not hate it but he sure doesn't seem to think it's better than a bus like most riders do. Here's a link to the editorial the PD ran when Calabrese was hired.

In other words, RTA is incorrect when they say it was Berea's fault that the line never got extended.

UrbanOhio Parents & Families
My son is circumsised and only ever sprayed us while taking a bath. We used a ceiling fan, but same effect. We never had a changing table for either of ours. What we had was a short antique dresser we found at a garage sale with a changing table pad that I attached to the top. Once the munchkins got old enough that we didn't need to put them on it, I pulled the pad off and now we just have an extra dresser.

Sure I can. I can blame anyone I want. It doesn't make me right, but I still can. Yeah, a small but vocal portion of Berea residents protested the specific routing, but RTA listened to the protests, agreed to modify the project, and so all the residents of the town are ignorant bigots. So what modified plan did RTA come up with? Did Berea stop RTA from coming up with an idea that didn't involve Front street?

Especially not more useful when you consider there's a lake nearby that could be used for an offshore wind farm.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
If I recall correctly there were some rumblings out of Berea in the last couple years about reviving the idea but I don't think it was anything but a few folks (like the new mayor) wishing the idea hadn't been killed. Also, wasn't half the reason it got killed to begin with because the airport was considering moving the terminal to where the IX center is and no one saw a point in investing in infrastructure if there was a possibility it would need to be changed in a few years anyway?

Actually they've been around all winter for Cavs games when the skies are clear...... I can hear the hum of the blimp from my house if I listen really closely! Fine, it's a good sign that it's spring when I notice the blimp because I'm outside taking a walk during my break.

Akron: Random Development and News
It was a very old house, and somewhat interesting architecturally, but not historic. Still sad to see it go though. I grew up about a 2 miles from there and can recall referring to it as the "haunted house". It was abandoned and falling apart back in the 80s, I can't imagine how bad it must have been recently. I always found it interesting that it was a match (pretty much) to the flower shop on St Rt 14 in Streetsboro. For comparison here's the house that was knocked down, http://tinyurl.com/y925j78 And here's its much better cared for twin, http://tinyurl.com/ya35f6b

It's a good sign that spring is coming when you see the Goodyear blimp circling downtown Cleveland.

Where would the Red Line be extended in Lakewood? There has been some talk of extending the Red line into Berea, but that's been just talk so far. There have been discussions of branching off the red line onto the tracks through lakewood, but I don't think anyone with any influence is seriously considering that option at this time. There has been a lot of talk on extending the blue line, but only through the intersection of doom, and yes Shaker is on board with it. Unfortunately, I don't think anyone at RTA has seriously considered extending the Red line to the east for quite a few years.
