Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
I don't think the problem with public square is that it doesn't have enough people, IMO the problem is that too many of those people are either just standing at a bus stop, or panhandling. There aren't people that come to public square just to come to the square.

Pet Peeves!
I think it's even worse when people type out sentences beginning with "Ummm..." I've seen it commonly used in message boards, blog comments, facebook messages, etc. If anyone ever does that on UO, I hope the admins will give them one warning and then ban them forever on a second offense! Ummm... I think you're overreacting.

Pet Peeves!
The all day shoveling does help if you're getting a foot or so but for this little bit, it's a waste of time. Last night I talked a neighbor kid into shoveling my entire driveway in exchange for a cup of hot chocolate. Other than the little drift that formed right in front of the garage door there was nothing there this morning.

Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
It's not that much higher. I don't have a chart full of sightlines and these 3 proposals are, just that, proposals. But, as proposed, this hill and these awful trellises (IMHO) would certainly have to block some "vistas" that are there now. I don't see how a 20' hill is going to affect the view of anyone above the 2nd floor. And considering the elevation difference, even the 2nd floor residents shouldn't see a significant difference. I really like the idea of putting a small hill in the middle of the square, but I would agree that if traffic can be rerouted around the square it would be preferable.

It has amused me quite a bit that Saint Nicholas was a 3rd century bishop of the town of Myra on the present-day Turkish coast of the Mediteranean. Not really a part of the world known for getting a lot of snow. Somehow I doubt the area has seen a lot of sleighs and reindeer.

Santa's a Health Menace? Media Everywhere Are Falling for It—But the Study Was Meant as a Joke Around the world, news outlets have been reporting on a new study in BMJ, the U.K.'s leading medical journal. In the article, titled "Santa Claus: A Public Health Pariah?," Australian epidemiologist Nathan Grills meticulously lays out the reasons why Santa Claus is a terrible role model—a danger to children everywhere.

Fast Food
My car starts to shake when i go around dead mans curve because it knows it's crossing the river and venturing into the unknown territory of the west side. Well technically you can drive down to Streetsboro if you really want to avoid crossing the crooked river that badly.

^According to the PDF it's 14 feet of clearance and 6 feet of "stuff". I like the hill concept, but I agree that it could use a little tweeking.

Urban Ohio "Picture Of The Day"
I've never tried a wing competition as they are rarely hot enough to me. I did that sushi challenge in Bushido in charleston, and it was HOT! My mouth is watering just thinking about that. Yum. I agree Bushido is rediculously hot, but the first few rolls taste so good before they start being inedible. (I finished the challange, but I'm not afraid to admit I cried quite a bit in the process.)

Are you a Leftie or a Rightie?
I voted Ambidextrous. I usually use my right hand for writing, but I can use either about equally for most activities.

Does it matter where you go to school?
I went to a community college before transferring to a 4 year school and several profs I had taught at both schools. From my experience many of the classes at both schools are pretty much the same. (Well ok, I actually went to a 4 year school, dropped out for a few years, went to a different 4 year school, then went to community college, then transferred to another 4 year school. Maybe one day I'll graduate, maybe.)

All I Want For Christmas is...
What are you two, Lucy and Ricky Ricardo? Come on, if you're going to reference an old TV show in a joke at least get it right. Lucy and Ricky were allowed to share a bed because the actors were actually married.

All I Want For Christmas is...
I'm Irish, all it takes is some beer. For Christmas I just want some free time to finish rewiring the first floor of my house so I can get some insulation blown in. Realistically, I'd settle for beer and a nap.

Does it matter where you go to school?
^I'm not sure the trades are hurting for people in this economy, but I agree that generally trades suffer from a silly reputation problem. Also, many 4 year schools do offer programs like what you're describing, but from what I can tell, those programs suffer from the same reputation issues as their community college counterparts.

Other States: Passenger Rail News
^Well with all our retirees headed that way and not able to drive as well they have to come up with some way of moving them around.

Does it matter where you go to school?
I've been told several times over the years by HR people that they are far more concerned with your GPA than where you went to school.

Ohio's Small & Rural Transit Systems News & Discussion
^Yeah, that last paragraph wasn't needed. The transit funding problems in this state have nothing to do with the 3C project and have been around a lot longer. While I don't think that intercity transportation is nearly as important as intracity transit, they both need to be funded. I don't like the implication that there would be money to spend on transit if not for the 3C project, that is just going to confuse the ignorant.

Cleveland: Transit Ideas for the Future
Just to pick your brain since you know more about transit issues than anyone else I know, if the Rail bus test in 1985 was somewhat successful (as most people I've talked to about it describe it), why did RTA never follow it up with any further planning, or actual construction?

Which UO Forum do you prefer: New or Old?
My office computer just got upgraded to IE6 a few months ago. At home I have IE8, FF3 and Opera, but IE8 so filled with bugs that I harldly use it.
