Cleveland Browns Discussion
Mangini gave BQ 3 chances to prove himself. He proved what kind of quarterback he is. BQ was darn good against the teams Notre Dame played a few years ago, but considering Notre Dame has one of the easiest schedules in Division A college football, that's not saying much. I don't think DA is any better than BQ though I think he could be if he'd learn not to throw into traffic.

Off Topic
I just overheard someones radio in the office mention that Wedge is getting fired at the end of the season and I can't find an Indians thread. Also, I don't feel like making a new thread since, I'm assuming we have one somewhere in hiding.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
Without actually having heard the conversations in question, they don't sound that out of line IMO. I understand your desire to have the drivers knowledgable and positive but I think they should be entitled to share their opinion if asked. If they're just randomly whining about how RTA is lousy to every rider, that's one thing, but I think a bus driver in a casual conversation should be allowed to express a preference for light rail over BRT. Costs aside, I would think most of us would prefer light rail too. So from my perspective the drivers were just being ignorant, not inappropriate. Ignorance is everywhere and you can't stop all of it.

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
Clearly. We have discussed the innerbelt quite extensively, though currently the thread is lost in the great abyss of quarantined threads due to containing articles posted directly from newspapers. If you have anything to add to the discussion you can either: wait a little while till the Mods finish cleaning out the innerbelt thread, beg really nicely from one of the Mods to get them to work on it faster, or create your own thread within the highways forum and it will get merged with the old thread at some future date.

THE FLU
^No, if Karma was going to really get you, you'd get swine flu over a long weekend. I always get a flu shot, though I sometimes still get the flu. If they offer the swine flu shot at work, I'll get it too. The flu was bad enough the few times I've had it that I'll gladly deal with a shot to avoid it.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
So that would explain why i saw a 39F heading east on St Clair last week during afternoon rush hour. The 39F has taken St Clair a lot this summer with the sewer construction on 90. It seems like every time I ride it anymore they take an alternate route.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
http://www.riderta.com/nu_newsroom_releases.asp?listingid=1345 RTA news Sept. 18, 2009 RTA strengthens cell phone policy CLEVELAND – Effective today, all employees are prohibited from having a cell phone on their person while operating a bus or train at the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (RTA). Policy details The prohibition includes cell phones, smart phones, personal digital assistants such as BlackBerry devices, electronic music devices, wireless headsets or any other electronic communication or listening device. “The use of cell phones and other similar devices is a growing problem, both nationally and here at home,” says Michael York, RTA’s Deputy General Manager of Operations. “It is a safety violation that we can neither tolerate nor afford.” While on duty, operators must keep cell phones and other devices separate from their person. They can be stored on-board in personal bags or purses. This reduces the temptation to respond to a phone call or check a text message. Cell phones can only be used when the operator is on layover, the vehicle is stopped, the parking brake is set, and they have left the driver’s seat. The same rules apply if an operator has to use a personal cell phone to contact a dispatcher. Zero tolerance York says the policy carries a “zero tolerance.” Employees will be terminated for a first offense, if the cell phone use is witnessed by another RTA employee or supervisor, or photographic or video documentation is provided by a customer. Background For years, RTA has prohibited cell phone use by bus and rail operators. The policy has been updated and strengthened several times, as the popularity of cell phones grew. Both the U.S. Department of Transportation and the Federal Transit Administration are considering regulatory prohibitions on the use of cell phone devices. Just last week, the National Transportation Safety Board prohibited its employees from using “any wireless device behind the wheel while on duty.”

Cleveland: Perk Park Renovation
Has anyone else noticed the fence up around Perk Park? I can't recall when they were supposed to start construction, and without the thread I can't look it up. There didn't look to be anything else going on except the fence going up. Edit- Ok, I'm an idiot. Right after posting that I googled Perk Park and channel 8 says construction is starting this week.

What Airlines have you flown?
I don't really recall airlines very well as most tend to blur together, so I'll just mention what stands out in my memory. Aer Lingis- They had some of hot stewerdesses back in the day. Aeroflot- (The former USSR's national airline) I spent the entire flight in prayer that the wings wouldn't fall off. If I hadn't been so occupied with that I might have noticed what my friends did. The cabin door was open so they could see that the pilot was drinking. Austrian Air Lines- The stewerdess had a moustache. Eww. (Yes, I have a moustache, but there is a double standard. Call me sexist if you want to.) Delta- They asked me if I was willing to give up my window seat so a couple could sit next to each other. I didn't want an aisle seat but didn't want to be rude so I said ok. They gave me an aisle seat in first class. I was happy. JetBlue- Flight took off a half hour late, yet landed a half hour early. This on a flight that was scheduled for 4 hours. I don't want to know how fast we were going. KLM- The food didn't suck! Southwest- After a fellow passenger was rude a stewerdess told him if he didn't stop acting like a dog and barking orders at her, she'd treat him like a dog and let him stick his head out the window. United Airlines- They decided to board the plane a half hour early and didn't make an announcment except to the immediate boarding area. Once we'd boarded they decided to just go ahead and leave early, not noticing that they had an empty seat, and thus leaving a coworker of mine stranded in DC. He was pissed.

Ohio: Casino / Gaming Discussion
No, I don't spend all my money in Ohio, but given a choice of a business in the state I live in, and an equivelent in another state, I'll choose the one in my state. If for no other reason, the one in state is generally closer. No.

Ohio: Casino / Gaming Discussion
Wouldn't the fact that the taxes stay in our own state be a good reason?

Cleveland: VA Hospital Expansion
Oh yes we do. It's why the FBI was moved out of the federal building and into its fortress on Lakeside. And why the Federal building is spending quite a bit over the next few months to have engineers assess what's needed to make the building even more blast resistant than it already is.

Ohio: Casino / Gaming Discussion
I think casinos can lead to plenty but good for the cities that get them. In fact I don't think many people deny that some problems will come with gambling. The question is whether the benefits will outweigh the costs. How exactly would you heavily tax gay marriage?

A Home Repair Scam, Right?
I don't take pride in being a jerk to a kid, and I do feel bad about what happened there. If I'd realized what she was up to I'd have politely told her no thanks at worst, but she seriously looked about 25. I've had door to door sales people that were quite pushy, so I tend not to be nice to them. I understand that they are just trying to do a job, but they, like telemarketers, have chosen a profession that requires them to annoy me when I'm at my home, so I feel no compulsion to treat them with dignity. If I can make a door to door sales person cry, or a telemarketer hang up on me, I do take pride in that.

Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
Well the times are just estimates, I would assume that if there is support at the public meetings for later times, they'd consider changing them, unless there is some specific reason why it would cost more to do so.

A Home Repair Scam, Right?
I typically get the door if someone rings the bell, though I don't feel bad about shutting it in someone's face or being rude. Last summer I made a very mature looking high school student cry, apologize for bothering me, apologize to me lawn for stepping on it, and promise never to set foot on the street again before I realized she was just trying to sell candy bars for a band camp fundraiser. Rusty it's a scam. They'd probably do the work to replace the roof (or start the work) and get the money from you while you're waiting on a check from the insurance company. By the time the insurance company stops laughing, you're left with part of a roof, and out however much they could talk you into paying them. On the off chance the insurance company does pay out, they'd probably just take the money and run. Typically contractors don't go door to door, though if they're already working in the neighborhood, and see that you need work, they might.

Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
I personally agree with his statements that funding public transit and commuter routes should be a higher priority than Intercity Rail, but if we can't convince people like him to fund public transit, than we may as well try to fund something. I found it dishonest and insulting that he could make statements like this after playing such a significant role in the funding problems public transit has. I just wrote him a letter to tell him as politely as I could that I think he resembles my anus.

Ignore feature
Click on profile (at the top of the screen), Click on Personnal Messages, (on the left side of the screen) Type the user names of the people that make you want to commit homicide in the white box, (in the middle of the screen) Click save. (at the bottom of the screen) Don't worry I was thrown off by it being under personnal messages for the longest time too and kept hoping for an ignore feature so I wouldn't have to look at EagleFan's avatar. (It makes me want to punch the screen.)

Ohio: Casino / Gaming Discussion
I don't think it'll have a significant effect on Ohio as a whole, but I think it'll have a positive effect on the neighborhood where it's built. I'm opposed to gambling, but it's going to happen either way, so I'd rather it happen here where we get the tax money. Unfortunately I think that if Cleveland builds one, it'll hurt Detroit & Erie, and Detroit & Erie already have enough problems.

Ignore feature
I'm ok with the ignore feature as is. I tend to ignore people when they irritate me, then after a few days I see everyone else going off on them for something they say, so I click and view their post. After doing that for a few more days, I forget why it was I ignored them in the first place and take them off. (Well there's a couple people that I'll never take off, but they're the exception.) I wish there was a way of ignoring entire threads. There's a handful that I never really look at, or want to look at, yet because there's always someone else posting in them, they're always on top.
