  1. Agreed. I have some sympathy for people that got talked into a bad mortgage if they were misled, or people that bought a house they could afford at the time, but can't now as a result of job loss or injury, but buying too much house just because the bank says you can afford it is irresponsible and you deserve whatever comes you way as a result of it. When I bought my house in 2007 my bank offered me a 30 year mortgage whose payments would have been higher than my monthly net income. I, being a somewhat responsible adult, worked out roughly what I could afford and bought a house accordingly. This is why I live in a tiny little house and spend half my weekends making some kind of repair to it. If someone making a similar income to me bought a nicer house than mine that doesn't need a lot of repairs, has wiring that isn't a safety hazard, has a garage that doesn't shake everytime the wind blows, but now has to stress over phone calls from collectors and is fearing foreclosure, why would I consider feeling sorry for them?

Oh, I thought Louisville and Lexington were in Northern Kentucky. If they're not, that would explain it. I'll just continue ignoring those threads. Thanks.
  3. It's a slow day in the office so I've been playing on the internet half the day. I found this pic of Public Square from 1912 on Wikipedia. Yes it's huge (I thought it was too interesting to shrink it down), just scroll to the right.

Just a suggestion, feel free to ignore. In my opinion, it would make sense to move the threads in the Non-Ohio Projects forum that deal with cities in Northern Kentucky to the SW Ohio Projects forum. From my perspective, the projects going on in Kentucky are mostly of interest to folks from around Cincy, and mostly posted on by those members of the board. Maybe for organization sake a child board?
  5. I don't know how tall that parking garage is, but it doesn't seem that ridiculous in size to me. I'd rather see a parking deck there than the surface lot that occupies the space today.
  6. Is that an accurate figure? I would love to use that in discussions. I was going to say discussions with my fellow transit riders, but I won't be one anymore when I go back to work. However, I will still use the argument when the issue comes up with other people if it's accurate. No, we're not 48th. Idaho, Alabama, Hawaii provide no direct funding from the state , and a couple of states have cut back their transit budgets to close to the same level as Ohio, so I think we're somewhere around 40th. (From what I can find with 15 minutes on Google). I've seen this figure quoted several times recently, and I was curious about it. It's hard to find accurate and recent numbers on this organized together.
  7. ^It's been posted before in the Convention Center thread. No need for it here too.

Honey, time is your best revenge. I refuse to set foot in a reunion party, but just going in, walking thru, and seeing how miserable those "popular" and "bullies" lives are now, is worth the price of admission. It's far easier to just google them. No need to actually talk to them. I wasn't bullied much, but I was not one of the popular kids in school either. A few of the popular guys from my high school went in together after college and formed a company to invest in real estate. Gee, care to guess how well they're doing?
  9. Or maybe he can get to the bottom of the fact that we're in one of the worst recessions since the Great Depression and therefore, people aren't spending money, thus causing the sales tax to dramatically decrease.

If Kasich has any ideas on how to balance the budget while cutting taxes that don't involve massive service cuts, I haven't seen or heard them. I even went so far as to write and ask for his position on some issues. I haven't heard back from his campaign, so I guess he either doesn't have a position, or realizes from the way I phrased my questions that it would be a waste of his time to tell me he disagrees with me. Either way, I guess that means I'm voting for Strickland, regardless of how much I disagree with him on some issues.

I'm weird, I'm not really into music at all. I haven't been to a concert since high school (and only then because a girl I liked was going to be there), very rarely listen to the radio, and haven't bought music in any form for about a decade. I don't get why people are attracted to music.
  12. This was the point I was trying to make last week. I think our GDP is going to stabalize near where it is, technically ending the recession, but we're not going to feel like it's over for a long time.
  13. I could be wrong, but I think it's the low sulfer diesel they use. It burns cleaner.

I hear you. My wife is only 4 years younger than me and I still had to explain to her what "Spinal Tap" was. This discussion of course arose from me spontaneously singing 'Big Bottoms' one sunny afternoon. My wife is older than I am but I had to explain who Spinal Tap was the other day when she asked why one of Laverne and Shirley's neighbors was singing on the Colbert Report. Agreed, I love Joel McHale. Easily my favorite reality show, though I'm not liking the 'Top Chef Masters' they're doing this year.
  15. Maybe I'm weird, but I really don't like the look of that design. Particularly the top. I can't explain why I don't like it, I just don't.
  16. I'm not giving the link or quoting, but I just want to point out that the editorial in the Plain Dealer took their coverage of this to a new low. I don't usually pay attention to these articles, and agree they're BS, but there's no reason our local paper should complain about it if they aren't willing to complain about the negative articles.
  17. Though I think it would be prudent to be working with the port authority to coordinate; a station around E 55th that a portion of the port's workers could use, and make sure new tracks going into the new port don't block the ROW that would be needed to extend the WFL beyond the port.
  18. I really don't think we're going to see the WFL significantly upgraded or expanded anytime soon. I know that the lakefront plan proposed this, but no one has been seriously pushing the idea in the last couple years.
  19. How dare the county commissioners not use their psychic abilities to predict the best location based upon decisions and agreement that hadn't been made yet!!!
  20. A handful of the window areas are already partially visable on the Euclid side, and they look ok. It took a minute to see them as they're still partially obstructed by the framing for the smaller newer windows inside of them.
  21. It seems to me that the vast majority of people that ride the line (other than on Browns' game days) are people headed to City Hall, the Federal Building, or the Northpoint building. For most of them, its shorter to get off at E 9th and walk up the hill, than it would be to get off at the NCTC. So theoretically, you're going to be encouraging more people to just get off at Tower City and walk over if you eliminate that station. Doing anything to the W 3rd station is only going to affect Browns fans, as for most people it's already faster to walk from TC to W 3rd, than wait on the WFL. I do like the idea of saving on operating costs by demo'ing the stations, especially since capital funds seem easier to come by than operating funds, but it seems like by doing this, you'd be putting nails in the coffin of the WFL. Unless the line is extended, its ridership is going to be embarrassingly low for the foreseeable future. When the FEB happens, it'll help, but otherwise this line is basically doomed to lackluster perfomance. I'd hate to see it get worse with the removal of two of the busiest stations. Perhaps I could get behind the idea if the NCTC is designed right so that it's easy for riders to get off, take an escalator up into the concourse and walk over to lakeside, but I'm not optomistic that we won't see a station cost engineered into mediocrity that makes this walk seem unclean, unsafe, or inconvenient.
  22. I've said it before and I'll say it again, no system, compares to the Moscow system. I could live in one of those station. That alone should tell you how fabulous it is!! Yes, for beauty and cleanliness, Moscow takes the prize. It's nicer than virtually any home in the city (and some of the palaces.) As for usefullness for getting around town, Moscow's subway leaves a lot to be desired though.
  23. Personally I don't think it looks too bad under there. I really expected it to look worse under there than it does. Sure there's lots of damage, but it looks more dirty than damaged to me. I'm excited about the potential. When finished, this is going to be a beautiful building again.
  24. Well as to the fare increases, I had to go to RTA's site to find it, but a monthly bus pass has gone from $45 to $85 in just over 3 years. We understand the gas prices, and we understand the effect the recession has had, but still, that's some serious inflation when you look at the price increases cumulatively. While the price may have been just moving in line with other transit agencies, its quite understandable why people are frustrated.
  25. From $46 to $89 with the recent monthly unlimited metrocard hike that took affect on June 30th. While I don't disagree with you as far as MTA, I haven't had enough experience with it to offer an educated opinion, I don't think you can use fair increases as a sole indicator of the quality of management and defend RTA. After all if you're comparing fare increases, RTA's monthly bus pass has gone from $45 to $85 in three and half years.
