    Not Atlanta. Think Texas.

^ The American flag would be a little unusual in Toronto. ^^ You're getting closer. Yes, apparently a hint is in order. Its one of the older, and most famous neighborhoods in this city. Its in the south, in one of the, lets say 20, largest cities in the country. Also if you'll look at the first couple pictures you'll notice that they're sided with stone, which is a little uncommon for most southern coastal regions especially in houses built in the late 19th, early 20th century.

Its not Charleston, Savannah or New Orleans. Good guesses though.

Well here are some photos I stole off the web. I assume this will be fairly easy for those that have visited this neighborhood or lived nearby, but I guess we'll see.

Got married in 2000, Thank God it was that year so its easier to do the math and remember how many years its been. We only dated for a year or so before that but we've known each other since we were kids. We have a picture of each other playing together at my cousin's birthday party when we were 5 and 6.

I could speak spanish fairly well a decade or so ago, but I doubt I can remember more than a few words now. I can also speak a handful of words of Romanian, Russian, Czeck, Italian, and Arabic. (mostly Hi, and where's the toilet?)
  8. I own a Detached Single Family Home in Willowick. The town is 1950's era working class sprawl, built back when suburban neighborhoods had small houses close together, and neighborhoods were still at least a little bit walkable. Our house was built in '58, and as far as I can tell we're the third family to live there. Its a 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom bungalow on 1/10th of an acre. I like having a yard, but not spending more than an hour mowing. Its also within 100yds of 2 Laketran bus routes, and a little over a mile from the 39 when I ride RTA. There's a couple short people living upstairs that my wife says are ours, so we picked a town based on; good transit options (I'm to cheap to drive, and we don't want to drive the short people everywhere), decent schools (we want those short people upstairs well educated so they leave someday), decent crime rate (so those short people don't get robbed by anyone but the wife and I), less than an hour drive from my parents and my in-laws (free short people sitting), a grocery store and a handful of places to grab a bite of food within walking distance (so the short people can get a job and stop mooching without requiring buying them a car), low property/income taxes (we're cheap), and I'm sure there was something else on our minds when we looked at neighborhoods, but it probably had to do with the short people too.

^I thought of Compton when I saw mention of the Pirus, but both the buildings and the the vegitation looks too midwestern to me.

    ^My money is on Columbus.
  11. ^Thanks, I suppose that makes sense.
  12. Some Drivers will never "get" a Bus lane that goes straight to the left of a car lane that turns left. Way too confusing. :-P :| :-( I'd assume a few tickets from RTAs finest would help them get it.
  13. I'm not really understanding MrNiles's questions above so I hope no one minds if I ask a question on a different topic. This probably should be addressed by Jerry or JetDog, but if anyone else has an idea that works too. Is there any specific logic behind how close RTA places bus stops? The reason I'm thinking of this is last week I took the 39 home from work in the middle of the day to get to a doctors appointment and I kept noticing all along Lakeshore blvd through Collinwood the bus stops are ridiculously close to each other. In one spot I could see 3 stops within 150yds. Considering the bus was overcrowded, and it took what felt like a couple minutes for people to make their way through the crowd to get to the door at each stop, it seems like the route could be noticeably faster if not for all the stops so close to each other. And even worse than that at E185th and Lakeshore, there are stops on both sides of the intersection. I know its a busy intersection, but is it really that busy that we can't expect the people getting off there to walk across the street? I'd have to assume that there are other routes with the same issue, so I'm curious if RTA tries to keep stops any certain distance apart as a policy, and if not would doing so help any routes to save a couple minutes?
  14. KJP, I like your article, and I'm sorry that you don't have a reasonable transit option available anymore.
  15. ^I've seen the same thing several times, but assumed that drivers would "get it" after a few months.
  16. In Cleveland on the RTA the 39 and 39F are standing room only every day for the portion of the route that's on the freeway, and have been that way for around a year. (Since the service cuts last December)
  17. I've always liked the Blue line as it was my first experience with RTA and I'm sure many people coming from the outer suburbs and neighboring counties, its their first experience with public transit. (How else are you going to get to an Indians' game without paying an arm and a leg for parking?) The intersection in question is a total mess and its way beyond time someone did something with it. I'm just a little cautious in my optimism as a half mile extension in anticipation of a future extension while budgets are tight is going to be taken out of context and criticised by ignorant people just like the waterfront line has been recently. (Or have I been reading the Plain Dealer too much?)
  18. Well I don't know if fixing up my house would qualify as geeky, but I just finished rewiring and reinsulating the whole second floor. (My wife is insisting that I take a year off before I touch the first floor.) I also like reading classical literature (mostly 18th and 19th century European novels), though recently I've been finding audio books on the internet are much easier for the bus ride. And finally my truely geeky hobby would be that I enjoy sewing quilts. It started when I got out of the Army and wanted some creative way to keep and use my old uniforms, and a quilt just made sense. So if any of you see a chubby bearded man, listening to Tolstoy while sewing a pink and purple floral quilt at a bus stop in downtown Cleveland, I'm not an escaped mental patient.

Actually if you read up on that first thanksgiving it wasn't really as friendly and idilic as we learned in elementary school either. Only about a dozen native americans attended and only men.
  20. I know I'm nitpicking, but was I the only one that noticed a couple of Cleveland's buildings changed their names or locations in this map?
  21. Well, technically the world could end tomorrow, causing the Red line to fail to operate, but somehow I don't imagine that the people on UrbanOhio would have more insight into the world ending than average.

(I'm trying to use visual basic to get my computer to do more of my job for me so I can screw around for a larger portion of my day than I already do. The problem is I don't remember much of visual bacic from the class I took in it in '96.) Sub OpenAccess() Dim oApp As Object Dim LPath As String Dim LCategoryID As Long 'Path to Access database LPath = "C:\Work\db1.mdb" 'Open Access and make visible Set oApp = CreateObject("Access.Application") oApp.Visible = True 'Open Access database as defined by LPath variable oApp.OpenCurrentDatabase LPath 'Open form called Categories filtering by CategoryID 'LCategoryID = Range("A2").Value oApp.DoCmd.OpenForm "Form1" ', , , "CategoryID = " & LCategoryID End Sub

I don't text. (Actually I think I've sent 2 or 3 ever) I'm too cheap to get a nicer phone than the one I've got, and what I've got has buttons that are way to small. Oddly I instant message and email all the time, I just don't like texting. Its easier to just call someone for me.
  24. It appears to have been taken over a period of a few weeks (if not longer) and a few places have been updated over the summer.
  25. Thank you for your wholly constructive and intelligent post. Further postings of this nature will be removed. My apolgies if you feel that my post was unintelligent. I'll admit that it was unconstructive and will try to avoid further unconstructive posts of this type. (Though admittedly many of the Urbanbar posts are quite unconstructive.) My point was that most of the people that I've encountered on this site have been intelligent, well educated, somewhat normal people and I'm surprised that a significant portion of you would buy into this conspiracy theory, or for that matter even consider it more than garbage. I believe that a little research would show that most of the supposed evidence of a coverup can be explained, and what little evidence remains seems to be outweighed by the evidence that the Apollo astronauts did in fact land on the moon.
