Cleveland-Youngstown-Pittsburgh Passenger Rail Service
Much of that route looks like it wouldn't be practicle to even consider rebuilding as a lot of buildings have been built close to or on top of where that line line used to run.

Ohio & National Intercity Bus Discussion
In some rural parts of Ireland and Scotland the postal service takes passengers. Its cheaper than having separate vehicles for mail and busses. My mom's parents still live in Ireland and haven't owned a car since before WWII because they can always catch a ride to and from town for the equivelant of about 50 cents.

Northeast Ohio / Cleveland: General Transit Thread
OK, regardless of whether this provision that the union is striking about is good or bad, PARTA has been operating without their union drivers for 39 days and hasn't had to change/cancel any routes. Doesn't seem like this strike is going to have a significant impact, maybe its time to pack it up and go back to work.

Cleveland: Collinwood among Travel + Leisure's "Best Secret Neighborhoods"
I was introduced to Raddell's a couple years ago by my father in law. His trucking company delivered sausage casings there till he went out of business last spring. Unpleasant as sausage casings might be to think about, he's introduced the family to most of the best sausage makers between Chicago and New York. I just finished lunch and I'm getting hungry again already.

Wow. That's great. Its a nice neighborhood and if I someday move closer to the city, Collinwood would be one place I'd look.

Cleveland: Wind Turbine Construction News
You are correct, the Canada Goose is a protected species. Canada geese are protected by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1918 and the Migratory Bird Conservation Act of 1929. The former, the implementation of a 1916 convention signed by the United States and Canada, prohibits the hunting, possessing, purchasing and exporting of migratory birds "or any part, or egg of any such bird." Since neither law makes mention of wind turbines the protection of their species wouldn't be legally required under the current law in regard to this issue. (i.e. no instant red flag). Of course the environmental impact study would consider the effect on them and other species.

Cleveland: HealthLine / Euclid Corridor
Personnally I like the gray. Besides the fact that this was originally the silver line, the cities I've been to with bright and cheery looking colors on their busses looked much more depressing when the busses get a little dirty. See Orlando for a good example, I can't stand pastel colors after spending a few weeks there.

Another bonus about light rail is that once trains replace more bus lines, suburbanites and other bus haters won't dislike transit as much. Streetcars/light rail are much more predictable in their movements. You can't really complain about what a streetcar does when you made the decision to drive on the tracks. I think you're underestimating the amount of anger and hatrid on Cleveland.com. Someone would complain "I was just minding my own business when some train came at me out of nowhere. Darn criminal train drivers can't stay out of my way! Why don't the RTA police come ticket the train operators for taking up the whole tracks. They should drug test those train operators. I can't wait to get away from this town."

Considering a move back to Cleveland
I dropped out of college a decade ago and I wasn't smart enough to go back quickly. After a decade out of school its VERY hard to go back. My life and responsibilities are so different now.

^I guess I was fortunate enough to have a lot of AP classes in high school. I basically transferred in enough credit hours to start college as a sophomore. If I had actually gone to class everyday in college I probably could have graduated in 3 years.

Cleveland: HealthLine / Euclid Corridor
Doesn't RTA have a few busses with doors added on the other side that have been using portions of Euclid as the #6 for the last few months? I thought I read somewhere that was happening, though I've never actually noticed them. (Apparently I need to walk up to Euclid more often.)

Cleveland: Rockometer Proposal
The demolition being done isn't really anything to look at anyway, most of the building is still there. Give it a few more days to let it come halfway down and it'll be nice and photogenic. Progress, ain't it great?

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
Just thinking about Kucinich depresses me. As a change of topic, I've noticed the last few weeks that a lot of the shelters in downtown are being replaced as part of what I assume is RTA's Transit Waiting Environments project. I'm curious if I'm the only one noticing that the new shelters are a little bit smaller and have less seats than the old ones. My office has a lot of people that could use the exercise involved in standing for a couple minutes, and I think all the chubby folks have noticed less seats in the new shelters. They look much nicer and unique than the old ones, though the metal work on the roofs in a couple of them aren't quite as neat as they could be. I know, I know, I'm nitpicking.

Public Transportation
I didn't suggest that service because there's only one bus, unlike the #39 which has relatively frequent service. And you still have to transfer to the Laketran #6 bus, then to the Laketran #1 bus route, and then walk 2.25 from Mentor Avenue to Steris Corp. Yeah, it's a lousy option, but it's an option. You said "that's the only transit option available" and I was just giving the other lousy option. Carpooling would certainly be faster and easier. Whether you end up driving by yourself of carpooling, I don't think living in Downtown and working in Mentor would be reasonable without a dependable car. If you're coming from MI, I'm sure you know about winter, but be forewarned about the snowbelt. God blessed the East side of the Greater Cleveland area with more frequent decorative coatings.

Personnally I don't think I doubted its success. As far as tackyness, It doesn't seem to be a whole lot better than I imagined. I can live with tacky, but I don't have to like it.

Public Transportation
Actually the Laketran #12 route has one route in the morning from Downtown out to Willowick (There's 2 afternoon routes back) where you could catch the #6 at Vine and E. 322nd. It wouldn't really save you a whole lot of time over KJP's route above, but it would at least be another option and you could get by with only one bus pass then. Laketran doesn't allow bikes on their commuter routes so it's still not a good option though.
