  1. I'm pretty sure that retaining wall isn't new for this project.
  2. Well besides that they often aren't as fuel efficient, don't fit under traffic lights, and underpasses etc.

If you do go this far off the beaten path, be a little careful. I don't know much about Slavic Village, but if you wander to far east on St. Clair or Superior (i.e. beyond about E55th) the neighborhood goes downhill a bit. Not to say don't go, just use common sense and be careful. Superior especially has some pretty older buildings that have seen better days, but still show an interesting style architecturally. St. Clair tends to be more industrial, though I find it interesting that way back when, they used to build factories and warehouses that are pretty in their own way and are so solidly built that even after many years of obvious neglect they're not too much worse for wear. Personnally, I've always found Rockefeller park interesting and highly overlooked, also pretty convenient if you're already going to be near University Circle. Best of luck with your mother's Surgery.

  5. When I was in college I went to classes in Akron, but parties at Kent.

In college I was kindof a morning person, which didn't work out well since none of my friends were. So they kept me up late quite often and I developed a reputation for my attitude late at night. (No, I don't look like the dwarf.)
  7. It sortof looks to me like they're just playing with Jacobs and Wolstein and the cities of Highland Hills and Cleveland to get the best possible deal for this move. It just makes financial sense to drop hints here and there about where they may end up, and get some fantastic offers from both sides. In other words with a few years before they'd consider moving, I don't think its over yet and I think this weeks announcement may have been intended to get Cleveland to throw in all the chips to keep them. Of course it may be that Highland hills has already thrown in all the chips and their mind is made up. What do I know?
  8. I agree that this is better than graffiti and homeless people and could be much worse. If I didn't, I'd consider doing more about it than complaining about how much better it could be on a forum filled with people that mostly agree that it could be better. That being said, it could be a lot better.
  9. Up to $6 Million http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2008/05/whatever_happened_to_the_hulet.html I didn't realize they were that new. Regardless, they are not a pretty sight by any stretch of the imagination, and if they aren't removed, I agree that some form of modification, makeover, or artwork could make them look nicer. For that matter even if they are removed, I think that the mouth of the river would be a great spot for a large/iconic piece of public artwork.
  10. How about blue sky? Really they're not going to block the view of much of anything attractive, but they're certainly not attractive looking themselves, and everything behind them would be much further away.
  11. OK, so I didn't quite vomit at the sight of it. At least its half hidden in the shadow of that overhang. For some reason I was picturing the car on top of the overhang. That would have been a lot worse. And even if it is only half done, it looks like its going to be pretty bad.
  12. I see their point when it comes to the concrete silos: I wouldn't want to build a big beautiful new building that looks out on the lakefront and have them blocking my view. However, the waterfront line was, according to some rendering or another I've seen, be moved to wrap around their building. Is this saying that they don't want that? Or that they think the waterfront line in its current location and configuration is the problem?
  13. I agree, but it could be worse, at least the other options are still in NE Ohio.
  14. I guess I'll be the guy walking by vomiting at the sight of it this afternoon.
  15. Well, growing up, my Father was Democrat and my mother wasn't (actually, still isn't) a citizen so she couldn't vote. Dad was active in his union and tried to emphasize his support for the party when friends and coworkers were looking but really I think he enjoyed voting for the underdog. "The incumbant already had their chance to fix things, time for someone new before the old guy starts getting too gready". In college and in the Army I had a lot of Republican friends, and started leaning a little that way. I'm a registered member of that party still. In recent elections though I've voted for both sides, depending on the issues that seem central to the campaign of the individual politician. For example though I agreed with many things about Kerry in '04, his campaign's central issue seemed to be that Bush was an idiot. (I do agree with this, but don't think its an important issue.) Since I didn't see a lot of idea's of his own about how to do things better, I wrote in a name on my absentee ballot. In the upcoming election I disagree with a few things that Obama has said he'd like to do, but at least he's got some ideas of his own and wants to try to change things that need changed. McCain has shown me that his priorities are to change things that don't need changed, and doesn't see the same problems with our country and the direction its going that I do.
  16. Hmm, I always was taught that the serial comma before the and was optional. Of course, maybe I just had some teachers that didn't know what to do about it.
  17. No offense intended, I just wanted to know where you got that from, as it sounded a little like the gossip typical of some other websites. Thank you very much for your source of information.
  18. Where are you hearing this from? I don't want to develop an opinion of your rumor comment till I know where it came from.
  19. Ok, I told you, I think that makes it your turn next.
  20. Belfast? You've never heard of Belfast? And I'm a grumpy leprechan darn it.
  21. Western Europe people.

^ I'm close enough to average that clothes aren't a problem but I feel you on shoes. Try finding 7 XX-wide. When I joined the Army they had to order special combat boots for me. If you think I didn't hear about that the whole time I wore a uniform... "Where's Private Special Boots!!!"
  23. No. The big cranes in the middle of the picture are a part of this formerly very busy shipbuilding city that is currently about the same population as Akron.
  24. Ok, fine. Its a European capital. My mother was born in this city and I lived in there from 1984 to 1986, but since none of you has heard my accent I suppose that's not much of a hint.
