They certainly weren’t great uses, but most of that land has only become vacant in the past 5 years or so. The Burger King and Happy’s were still operating as of last year. An entire structure was lost to fire at 75th. And there was a structure up to the curb at Watterson until recently.

I think this pretty much sums it up. It’s valuable land by Cleveland standards but probably not valuable enough to overcome conservative institutional inertia.

Def not calling him a bust, but I do question the Cavs’ draft strategy. In order to be a good pick, Ochai will have to be a well above average 3 point shooter. He doesn’t have a very diverse skill set. Even his defense is more theoretical at this point. I would have preferred taking a swing on someone younger, with a more diverse skill set, and a higher ceiling like Eason.
They traded 13 but kept 15, taking C Mark Williams from Duke
…..then followed it up with 8 points on 3/11 shots yesterday. Obviously it’s only summer league, but it seems like the Cavs may have passed on some better overall talent (namely Tari Eason) to go after a more limited player who fills a specific role. If Ochai can’t shoot at least high 30s on 3s right away, this could be a wasted pick. We’ll see!
If you stretch that just a liiiiiiittle bit you get Tim Couch, Courtney Brown, and Gerard Warren. Not sure why we had to stop at 20 years for a 23 year old franchise. I probably should have given myself more latitude and said top 10 so we can throw Barkevious Mingo and Justin Gilbert on the pile. And having a number one overall pick and sending him out for nothing after 4 seasons is absolutely a disaster.

18 does seem low, but it’s hard to argue about the teams they have ranked in front. I would say maybe the Cavs are better than the Lakers and Timberwolves? There’s maybe never been this much parity in the league. Outside of the top 4, you could really rank 5-20 in any order and make an argument.

I think the overall economic benefit of professional sports is overstated. These are (for the most part) just entertainment dollars that would be spent elsewhere locally. I could see baseball or basketball, where you have dozens of events a year, perhaps at least pointing dollars to a specific neighborhood. Especially when the development is spearheaded by somebody who’s been the leader of such crooked and incompetent organizations.
I hope someone in the county or city government has the backbone to demand a fair deal from Haslam. The idea of that slimeball profiting off of even more public dollars is a little hard to stomach.

The “big reveal” with the color change was definitely lackluster. But I do think there are opportunities to end up with some nice unis. And I like them leaning into the Wine and Gold. Anything like those classic Lebron I era unis or the alternates they wore last year with the 70s logo and I’ll be pleased.

Maybe obvious but make sure you have your vax cards. And I’m not sure if it’s an EU thing but in Italy I specifically needed an N95 when indoors. I would also check your data plan. My carrier said I would get “up to” 3G service free but it was completely unusable. I bought an international data plan and it was indispensable.
I’m sure that’s correct. But I’m pretty sure they convinced him to waive the no trade by structuring the contract in a way that he loses no money from a suspension this year.
