Austin: Developments and News
20 miles from downtown. I live in Austin. The sprawl is unreal, especially heading north along 183 and 35.

The "Generation Gap"
Yeah, tonight Liz Phair is playing the Madison Theater. Her first record, released around 1994, was a female response to The Rolling Stones' Exile on Main St, which was 22-23 years old at that point. I am around a lot of young musicians now at work (aside from the fact that I let people practice in my basement) and they simply *do not know* about so much basic stuff. Just this past weekend I played Dave Brubeck's Take Five and nobody had heard it. It's like the best-selling jazz record of all-time. There is simply no way someone can convince me that the way people are being exposed to recorded music now is better than it was for the previous 50 years. It's all free, but there are no gatekeepers. Radio is worse than ever and MTV is long-gone. I know a guy who is about 30 who is a professional music critic for a website that shall not be mentioned. We talked one day and he had never listened to a Rolling Stones record. It's like...what? It's like an architecture critic being unfamiliar with Frank Lloyd Wright. One could also argue that an obdurate inability to enjoy anything at all ever that is new also leads to a confounding ignorance!

Cleveland Relocation: need neighborhood, school recommendations
It seems like a lot for that house, but the location is pretty great. You’re not going to be getting any deals in Ohio City at the moment. I would expect a property like that to backslide a bit in value when things settle down. Of course that’s just an opinion, based only on limited experience. Ohio City is definitely the best area in Cleveland at the moment imho. However, I think Detroit Shoreway has a chance to catch up eventually. And while you also won’t find any “deals” per se in Detroit Shoreway, I think a lot of the properties in that neighborhood are more likely to retain their increased value, since they have been undervalued for so long. I was thinking along the same line. It seems as though they wanted the house as an investment property and quickly changed their mind. That being said, they honestly didn't keep in on the rental market for very long, listing it a few weeks after purchasing the property and then switching over to selling it about a month later. This leads me to another question: how's the rental market in the area? As I mentioned, I'd be interested in something similar to this which would allow us to occupy one unit and rent out the other as a standard rental or AirBNB. We've looked at rental units in the area and it doesn't look like there are many that are available. I'm assuming that most units go pretty quickly. I own a rental in Detroit Shoreway. It’s a recently renovated 2,000 sf 3-bedroom with a garage. It’s located just south of Bridge and just west of 65th. It rents for $1,700 and Zillow (FWIW) lists it at $210k. That location is in Gordon Square but on the southern fringe of what would be considered the “hot” area. Like I said though, it’s recently renovated with high end appliances, etc.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
You’d like to believe that but: Coleman, Erving, Manziel, Gilbert, Mingo, Weeden, Taylor

Taylor was the 8th best QB by rating in 2015. He’s also run for 500 yards three times, which isn’t nothing.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
What exactly was "get rid of him" wrong with Taylor today? Some inconsistency and one pick, otherwise a good game. The offense was inept, Taylor's decision making was awful, he missed wide open receivers, he threw an INT at crunch time (his one claim to fame is that he usually doesn't turn the ball over), he didn't step up in the pocket, he actually ran into a sack when the left side was wide open for a QB run or pass, etc. I'm really not surprised though. Everyone knows that Taylor is at best an average quarterback. This is the guy who was actually benched for Nathan Peterman for crying out loud. It's only a matter of time before he is benched for the Heisman winner and #1 overall pick. How many times did Tyrod revert to that little dump off pass 3 years down field right over the line of scrimmage. It must have been 6 times in the last two drives. It seems like he was always looking for the relief valve. Count me in on the "let's try Baker" bandwagon. Browns fans are the worst. This is why we keep ruining rookie QBs (or playing guys like Manziel when we're 7-4.). We were expected to lose the first two games even if we're much better this year, and we tied the Steelers and would have beaten the Saints if we had a kicker and you're calling for the QB's head already? Come on. I don’t think the fans are the ones ruining anything

I don’t understand the point in cutting him. You’re telling me they couldn’t get ANY value for him? They way this team just absolutely lights assets on fire is comical.

Pretty remarkable level of incompetence. Has any team in any sport ever squandered so much draft capital?

Electric Scooter Sharing
FWIW my longest ride on one is 7.5 miles. You can expect to average about 10-12 mph. They’re super useful for getting around here in Austin (downtown). People use them constantly here, but of course the downtown is much more densely populated, more touristed, and heavy with amenities/retail than in any of the 3 Cs.

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
I agree we need more cops murdering people for non-capital offenses. Pulling into an intersection on a green light is murder. okurrrrr. Idk, sounded like you were advocating intentionally striking people with a police vehicle. Although your later comment suggests the doors wouldn’t be open so all good I guess.

Isn’t a thread dedicated to the Cleveland Browns football club the natural habitat of the downer? If I can’t find a home here I guess I could just migrate to the NuCLEus thread. Hey-o!

Veteran Browns fan prediction: 1. Landry catches 54 passes for.....472 yards, 2 tds. 2. Garrett is done by week 4 3. Mayfield shows promise in a week 3 start before getting put into concussion protocol 4. Team is hopeful Gordon can return by week 10 5. Charlie Whitehurst starts week 12 6. Everyone on here swears off following the Browns.....until the 2019 draft rolls around. This could be the year! Edit: Oh yeah, and 3 wins

It is a nice little way for enterprising types to make some money. Apparently some of these enterprising types are simply grabbing them throughout the day (when they are still marked as rentable) and tossing them into their vehicle and home. This way they can cheat the system don't have to race other chargers late at night when "capturing" the birds. They still show up on the app as available, but are actually in someones garage or upstairs in their apartment waiting to be charged that night. Bird scooters have an alarm so you can’t move them while they’re locked, so what you’re saying wouldn’t be possible (at least with Bird).

“Getting financing together” can mean a lot of things. Even when all sources are in place the due diligence period can be quite long.

NBA: General News & Discussion
The national media is in real denial about this mediocrity. The Lakers aren't the Sixers or C's. It's quite the bricklaying crew Magic has assembled. Trying to figure who the #2 scoring options is difficult. Kevin Love is still a better option than anyone on the current Lakers roster. Maybe one of the younger guys will shine. They will need to in order to be a top-4 seed in the West. Being the 2018 version of the '89 Detroit Pistons won't work against GSW. Hell by '91 the Bulls figured those Pistons out. I think they understand they won’t be winning it this year. But there’s at least a decent chance that 2 of Ball/Kuzma/Hart/Ingram turn out to be borderline all-stars. Then they can add someone in next year’s stacked free agent class. The Lakers will most likely be very good in 2019 and it will be very annoying.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
Liked a lot of what I saw from Sexton yesterday. It’s gonna take him a season or two to figure out finishing around NBA length/athleticism. But I thought his passing was better than advertised, and he’s lightning quick. Also seems to play within himself. Of course it was just one game but it was promising. Cedi looked like a man among boys and had a great game (except for missing basically every shot he took). He’s an absolute terror on defense. And Preston definitely seems like he’s worth the two way gamble the Cavs just took. Great size and athleticism and showed great flashes on defense and offense. Still extremely raw though. It’s so nice to just watch and talk basketball after 4 years of endless anxiety! Nobody cares about the Cavs anymore and it feels great!
