  1. Why can't it just be a normal donut shop? As for Noodlecat, I love that there is a place to get quality noodles, and am willing to pay for the privilege. It's delicious, but I don't think the majority of diners are willing to pay $10-$20 "just for noodles". I think it definitely fills a niche though, since no Chinatown restaurants really specialize in noodles, or even make their own noodles.
  2. New real estate companies aren't generally formed as "shells" to hide intentions or nefarious dealings. Developers also rarely own the majority of the projects that they develop . Developers will usually only have a small monetary stake in the partnership, but act as the general partner and generally be "in charge" of the project. The larger actual ownership stake is held by the banks and other financiers who provide the financial backing for the project. So the companies that end up buying land and developing it represent actual new partnerships.
  3. Admission to the zoo and Rainforest is $11 in the summer, $8 in the winter.
  4. True, because if the last 120 years have taught us anything, it's that every trend is permanent and irreversible.
  5. Yeah, my mistake on the I-90 suggestion. In that case, pretty much anywhere on the west side (Lakewood or the city proper) would be about an equal commute. Tremont does have great freeway access for a pretty easy commute.
  6. Something in Lakewood close to I-90 would give you a 30-minute commute, and probably be as close as you would get to having your cake while simultaneously eating it.
  7. We never voted on it. The tax increase was instituted by the Cuyahoga County commissioners.
  8. The Ameritrust building alone is 800,000 sf. That would increase the amount of vacant space almost 20%.
  9. I don't believe this space was ever considered for apartments. I believe it is mostly filled with office tenants, including a large amount of space that was fairly recently (last 2 years) taken over by ADAMHS.
  10. ^^^^Closer to 96th just past Belinda's. Similar structures and a significant loss on that beaten-up stretch.
  11. #57- Carney's!
  12. Yes, but sauteed instead of braised or boiled, so it had the consistency of calamari. Very odd, but it was served with a cilantro, peanut, and chili paste that was so fresh and delicious that it managed to work.
  13. ^^Oh no, not pork belly. Pork stomach.
  14. The drawback for Wonton Gourmet is that there's about 15,000 (approximately) menu items and 4 menus (including the wall). So each time you order it's kind of a crapshoot. Everything tastes awesome, but you may unwittingly end up eating chicken nuggets with bones in them (I don't know how this works, but it was simultaneously the most frustrating and delicious Chinese food I've ever had) or pork stomach (also amazing although the texture of the stomach is kind of upsetting). Somehow, in my mind, this all adds to the experience.
  15. I would nominate Wonton Gourmet for best Chinese.
  16. Wonton Gourmet and Li Wah for Chinese. Ty Fun and Banana Blossom for Thai. Bac, Minh Anh, Phnom Penh, Superior Pho, and #1 Pho for Cambodian/ Vietnamese. I know that's a lot of Vietnamese, but I need Bac for happy hour and curries, Superior Pho for Banh Mi, Phnom Penh for pan fried noodles, #1 for the pho, and Minh Anh for the awesomely greasy egg/spring rolls. I went to Pearl of the Orient in Rocky River once and it was gross.
  17. That article is incoherent. How does one area have an income gap? Unless they mean between the rich and the poor just in downtown, in which case the quantity of poor people and rich people would have nothing to do with it.
  18. Vine and Bean came after Lucky's. The spot was previously Cafe Limbo (which I really liked).
  19. Totally looks like B-more.

It all depends on your level of comfort. It's all mostly safe but can feel unsafe in certain areas. I think anywhere in the area bounded by Lorain, W. 25, Franklin, and Lorain feels pretty comfortable at all hours.
  21. ^^I know the guy who opened Pickwick said his inspiration was the places that used to be on Short Vincent.

I have a coworker who owned a condo unit in the first Stonebridge tower. Apparently K&D employed some rather shoddy construction techniques and some of the building exterior is having to be replaced or upgraded (I can't remember which). The condo association is trying to assess its members several thousand dollars for the repairs. Also, one of the walls in the garage just collapsed. The coworker ended up selling the condo at a very deep discount. I'm sure some of this can be explained by buying too high in a relatively warm market, but I believe at least some of the residents are dissatisfied and that might account for the availability of rental units.
  23. There's a sign up for the "Duck Island Lofts" right now at 19th and Abbey.

I hate everything that's happening with the lockout. Nobody is likable or sympathetic. I agree with Hts, it's definitely going to hurt the working man the most. Big surprise. However, I hate to say it, but I'll be first in line to buy Cavs tickets when they come back. I just like NBA basketball a lot. College basketball just looks kinda sh!tty when you're used to watching the pros.
  25. I think you're talking about the "Cheerios" building. There's a discussion upthread.
