Parmatown, horse manure smell, wide variety of sausages, that Mike Trivissano Cleveland-Italian accent, and Zoar.
  2. Uh... It's been Motion, a female strip club, since around 2007 or so. It was another female strip club by a different name before that. I can adamantly vouch that it used to be a female strip club.
  3. I think Cleveland is different than other eastern cities for a number of reasons, later development and streetcars being the main reasons. I'll submit one of my own theories too. Instead of developing densely around a central port, like a lot of older cities, Cleveland neighborhoods developed around factories which were tied to the location of railroads. That's why we have Victorian neighborhoods in far-flung areas like Collinwood and Lakewood. In Baltimore, neighborhoods that far from the center would have much newer housing stock.

Anybody ever see the "Imaginationland" episode of "South Park" where they bring in the Hollywood movie directors to think of ideas to invade the imagination? "Then there's a truck and it's like 'BRRRRK' then the plane comes down it's like BRAAGK'". Just indulging in a little third-party Michael Bay humor.

  6. I'm betting on Lawson's or Revco.
  7. Tina's is raw. It's a real hidden gem. I saw a mini riot there one night, it was great.
  8. Fool me once (flashback to me checking the "Gilbane" thread from the home page five minutes ago) shame on you, fool me twice............really? On two separate threads?

Oh man LeBron looks so cool in that Miami jersey. He's so lame. Weak.
  10. Just ate at roseangel. Pretty much had the same experience. Margaritas were fantastic; we had the pineapple and jalapeno. The food was entirely too bland and the tacos are a rip-off at $4.25. They could probably get away with serving mediocre food and great drinks if they weren't across the street from the Happy Dog and around the corner from Momocho. I can't think of a good excuse to serve a bland taco.
  11. Well, of course that's true, but this park functions pretty well, I think. I know a big point of the redesign was to create a better transit waiting environment, but it functions pretty well on that level too. Also, I took my handle from that park. Is that the right word, "handle"? I'm not very good at interneting.
  12. I've heard a number as high as $1.7 million to renovate Market Square Park. My concern is why this amount of spending and renovation is necessary for this park. I could see spending roughly 1/3 of that amount on landscaping and perhaps the reconfiguration of a few brick seating walls, but this number seems awfully high for a park that is already quite a nice meeting/market/performance space. I wonder if some of the money might be better spent improving the urban aesthetic of other parts of ohio city such as the Bridge Ave corridor and the parking lot behind the market. I have no idea why renovating this park has been made into a priority.

Not to say that money should never be spent on greenspace projects, but there already are some pretty large ones practically connected to public square.

Spending money on parks instead of services and altering transportation routes that are used primarily by poorer residents directly affects poorer residents.

It's debatable whether the city can force development on downtown lots (maybe penalize owners for undeveloped lots or taxing parking are two ideas that come to mind). However, when the city is considering spending money on a greenspace project and closing down its main public transportation route those decisions come directly at the expense of the city's poorer residents. I believe this is what Mr. Krumholz is talking about. I know most of us (myself included) are concentrated on improving the physical appearance and overall "urbanity" of our town. But calling someone outdated because he cares more about a city's residents than its buildings seems a bit harsh.
  16. Full shelters as featured in "American Splendor".

Yeah, that one has been around for a week or so. Delonte is an easy target. Horrible, vile rumor. People can be real a$$holes.

How can you make a statement like that? Please show me some facts! The Gund wasn't empty before LeBron and it wont be empty after. This down and out "Woe is me" BS has got to stop! An that warm climate comment is the most ignorant! Um. The proof is in the pudding, bro. Where are the big names that want to come here in baseball? Football? Basketball they came with Lebron here..and NO there WERENT people in the Gund before Lebron got here. After the Price/Daugherty era, that place turned into an empty gym. Show me athletes that voluntarily come here to play and you can proove me wrong. And dont tell me Jamario Moon and Anthony Parker, they got millions to come be role players. They werent getting that money anywhere else. Other than trades, NO free agents come here. I'm only going by what the numbers were. When the Cavs lost 54 games in 2001, they were 16th in attendance. The next year they were last, but they tanked the season on purpose. All the years before LeBron, from Mark Price to John Lucas, the Cavs had poor attendance only twice. Everybody just remembers that tanking year and forgets that the Cavs had pretty good attendance for such sh!tty teams.

The Cavs will be over the salary cap even if they don't sign Shaq or LeBron. The only way they could acquire a player is through a sign and trade. The best option available to the team is re-signing both players, since they own both players' Bird rights. Not true, if they dont resign anyone they will be under the cap. That means letting Z, Telfair, powe, and Jawad Williams walk, and Lebron and Shaq obviously. So they could still make signings while losing Lebron and Shaq. They don't just have to do sign and trades. Yes, you are technically right. If the Cavs released ALL of their team options and Bird rights for next year, they would be five million under the cap. Good luck signing anybody except DeSagana Diop for five million.

Attendance will certainly be damaged if LeBron leaves. But let's burst the attendance bubble right off the rip. In the last 20 years the Cavs have only finished at the bottom of the table in attendance once. Any guesses? The year they purposely tanked to get LeBron. Through the post-Nance Mike Fratello Randy Wittman years, the Cavs were generally smack in the middle of the pack for attendance. Anybody remember those teams? Awful basketball that Clevelanders happily payed to witness. I would argue that Cleveland is generally a strong sports attending town, and Gilbert has put his roots a little to deep to be ditching town.

The Cavs were one of the worst teams in professional sports for decades and managed to stay in town. I would think with a relatively new arena and new ownership that will have a major investment in the city it would be unlikely the Cavs would leave. As far as booing LeBron? I had part of my bachelor party at the game on Tuesday. My friends spent nearly $600 dollars for eight seats in one of the cheap sections. With a chance to deliver the city it's first championship in 50 YEARS, LeBron played like he thought the Celtics were the 1950 Syracuse Nationals before the shot clock. It wasn't an injury, he simply didn't put in the effort. To paraphrase Windhorst, it's never been true to say that the Cavs lost because of LeBron. Until this series. Game after game. He has become unlikable. He owes my friends $600 for the tickets and about $250 in pain-killing lap dances at Bugsy's. BOOOOOOOOOO
