I don't know if I've ever seen the Cavs win a stretch of games like they have over the last ten. Phoenix, Los Angeles, and Atlanta on the road. And Houston and Atlanta at home. Really impressive wins.
  3. Ya but Carl's Junior has electrolytes.

Has anybody noticed some of the threads getting a bit nasty lately? I took a beating on the Cleveland Asiatown thread recently and I just looked at the Cleveland Lakefront Development thread.....yeesh.
  6. Good to see this part of Euclid filling in.

I just like the neighborhood the way it is is all.
  8. If memory serves me correctly, Ferris was where the Harry Buffalo is now.

I like the fact that this neighborhood isn't "labeled". The truth is there are as many eastern Europeans and probably more African-Americans in this neighborhood as anything else. Not to mention the Hispanic presence. The neighborhood has has a very "roll with the punches" kind of feel to it. I think a big gate that said "This is Where Chinese People Shop" would be a detriment and maybe even an insult to the neighborhood.

Definitely Notting Hill. That's includes the area around Picadilly Circus. I stayed in a hotel in the neighborhood and the architecture and variety of restaurants were both outstanding. Central London is also very very easy to navigate, so wear some good boots made for walking.
  12. Remember how most of us were so happy that they picked the Mall site? I hope the Mayor stands his ground and really holds MMPI accountable.

The first time I visited Detroit, my friends and I stumbled into a bar in Corktown. We asked the bartender, "Is there any area around here where there is like a strip of bars or restaurants or shops that we could walk around. We're from out of town." He replied, "What do you think this is, Chicago?" He continued, "Where are you all from?" We answered, "Cleveland." "Well, Detroit's no Cleveland."
  14. It always amazes me how big Detroit is and how desolate. The first time I visited I naively thought, "It's about as big as Philadelphia, there should be plenty to do." There must be 5 million in the metro area. I can't believe there hasn't been more concerted redevelopment efforts.
  15. Man, those cheerleaders in the gold were smoking hot!
  16. I think for a long time I thought, "this sure is taking a long time, but I trust that the people at MMPI know what they are doing and are just being careful to make sure this turns out properly." This has changed to, "Wow, the people of MMPI have no respect for our local leadership. At worst they are trying to pull out of this deal, or at least they have a very blase attitude about our hundreds of millions of tax dollars." I understand things change in the course of a development, but to change the location of a large structure or totally drop another enormous structure from the plan entirely screams disorganization. I also don't think they understand what the Mall means to many citizens of Cleveland, including the Mayor and Council. I used to think this project was very important for Cleveland, but MMPI is quickly making me lose faith.
  17. Man, the Detroit threads always feature some pretty compelling architecture. I feel like Detroit got it worse than Cleveland with the too-wide avenues, though.
  18. I had a similar experience at La Boca. It seemed surprisingly unsupervised for a brand-new restaurant. We sat on the patio (obviously a few weeks ago) and there were dirty dishes stacked on the outside bar, tables that sat dirty for long stretches, and a general unprepared feeling that permeated the whole restaurant. I thought the food was a little better than 'rockandroller' described it, but still pretty average and there seemed to be a lot of wasted potential on a great spot and inventive concept.
  19. I voted for this and I feel kind of gross about it. I don't think it's going to add much to downtown besides a casino. Maybe provide the Hard Rock with some more customers. And, KJP, are you saying the Waterfront line will gain purpose from the FEB or the Casino? I don't see a lot of people taking public transportation to do video slots.
  20. Ooh I'll second W. 31st Pl.
  21. How could anyone possibly have a problem with this? I happen to like sneakers.
  22. That gives me an idea for a thread: "Comparison Threads versus Non-Comparison Threads".
  23. Number of units on a certain amount of land isn't the only determination of profit. I suppose that's a pretty simple statement, but I only got a "C" in capitalism class. I think there is a tendency to attach a morality to density that doesn't really exist. Cleveland isn't a "bad" city because it has lost density; no more than Pittsburgh is a "good" city because there is a Talbot's in Shadyside. The post by "x" is one of the most sensible things I have read on this site in quite a while. Density is an externality of certain economic choices and conditions. Density occurs where there is economic opportunity, and planning can be a reaction to it, but not a catalyst for it.
  24. That sounds pretty good. I bet they will do well as a late night spot.
  25. Thanks for the condescending map that shows that the casino will be built on top of the Red Line.
