What was that huge pillar standing by itself?

Lonely Planet - Cities You Really Hate
I was pretty content hating Boston because of the Celtics, but I wasn't prepared to have to hate Toronto also.

Pittsburgh and Cleveland...a Tale of Two Cities...
I think Pittsburgh may have one or two badly placed free-ways. I also think that it's hard to claim that geography had nothing to do with Pittsburgh maintaining some neighborhoods. While terrain may not "force" density it certainly facilitates it. Pittsburgh also has the double-edged sword of population homogeneity. This kept many neighborhoods intact, I'm sure, but I think you can feel the lack of diversity in Sh!ttsburgh. It should also be pointed out that East Coast cities were not only developed before the automobile, but the dense centers were developed before street cars (Philly Center City, the Inner Harbor and Fell's Point, whatever the neighborhoods in Boston are called, etc.)

Moving to Tremont- am I going to be safe?
That neighborhood certainly has problems, but they have a very active block club. The Barber-Vega group is one of the few that I have run into who have a "what can we do" attitude rather than "what can everyone else do for us" attitude. As a result, they often get more help than other clubs because they are so easy to work with. All very nice people, and I think only four or five of them are actual prostitutes. Just joking. I don't think that area is very scary, just low-income, which some people can find intimidating.

Cleveland: Cleveland School of the Arts
I may be wrong, but I don't think that demolition necessarily means tearing down the whole structure. It could mean bringing down a wall or somesuch.

Midtown Cleveland
I'll take the brothels and gambling dens. I couldn't even name a decent gambling den in this town anymore.

Cleveland: Demolition Watch
As for the Grilly's building, Santiago is the councilman until January first. After January first, the new council boundaries take effect and it will be Cimperman's ward. I also don't think that Santiago cares more about bars than constituents.

Cleveland: Best Kept Secrets!
W. 82nd St. in the Stockyard between Denison and Clark. Beautiful tree-lined residential street in the middle of the hood.

Cleveland: Perception Issues
The nice parts of the city proper in Cleveland do tend to be spread out all over the city. That can certainly affect the perception of outsiders. Maybe with the emergence of Detroit Shoreway we'll have something like that stretching from Tremont to Edgewater.

Cleveland: Perception Issues
I don't know where the perception of Pittsburgh as the jewel of the Rust Belt comes from. I suppose some of the neighborhoods are more intact, but I would think that has more to do with the geographic isolation and relatively homogeneous population. It's still lost people at the same rate as Cleveland and Detroit.

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
I guess "dedicated" convention center was too strong. However, the same people managing our medical mart will also be managing the convention center and I would have to think that's an advantage. I would also think that finding space to expand in Cleveland won't be too much of a problem, unfortunately. And being first to market always matters.

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
125,000 square feet would be 25% larger than the average Wal Mart (according to the Wal Mart annual report). The medical mart will also have a dedicated convention center (300,000 sq. feet) that the WPC would lack. And something about a subway tunnel....

The snobs are out on the food board! Depending on how literally you mean "fast" and "gourmet" you could certainly have them simultaneously.

Recession 09: Baltidelphia
Baltimore has wonderful architecture and has seen a lot of investment around the waterfront. When I lived there, it seemed like it was attractive and relatively safe between St. Paul St. and Charles St. eventually extending west and south of the harbor. The first day of summer always had a strange feeling in Baltimore. Such a pretty town, though.

Glad to hear about the burrito shop. What is the one type of person who hangs out on public square?
