If i wanted amazing fresh donuts i'd go to Uncle John's Cider Mill in St. John's, Michigan. I just swore off Ridge Donut Shop since they left Cincinnati and moved to Silverton.

At least "Undercover Boss" has the potential to shine a positive light on the city. "Police Women of Cincinnati" has zero potential in that regard.

They turned every Hardee's back home into a Wendy's or a Tim Ho's. I think it was for the best.

Holy Jesus that guy in Streetsboro was a piece of work! Makes me want to sell my rental properties tomorrow... For any non-Hoarders addicts out there, this guy had 30+ rabbits in his rental house, and they ate through the drywall in numerous places. Meanwhile this passive-aggressive loser and his SSI-receiving wife sit on their ample asses and let inches of rabbit sh!t cover every surface in the house while he plays games on his computer and uses the phone to call his wife in the other room. The other featured hoarder was an equally vile dentally-challenged hillbilly from southern Illinois who hoarded chickens, ducks, and goats in horrendous conditions. I can't even watch next week's rat episode... Gary was hoarders biggest Jackass every! That house was so nasty! I loved how after the cleaned a portion of the house, bunnies started appearing out of the walls. Did you happend to notice the size of Gary's monitor? You have a gigantic monitor but your lazy ass cannot clean. Hanna was funny. I thought she was spunky! I'm going be old and cantankerous like her. Her family looked like inbred's. I was expecting the score for deliverance to start playing at any moment! I can't believe that the owners of that house allowed them to stay. That was unbelievable...If i am a landlord and someone does that to my property? Oh, hell no they're not stepping back into it.

I'm eating honey-lemon halls right now. It's going to make my lunch taste awesome.

i watched to see if i could identify the neighborhoods (and for the most part i could)...i was wondering if the drunk kid in OTR was actually having a diabetic issue (hence the needles)...it's at least worth looking into, i know diabetic episodes can make a person appear to be drunk. As soon as that other kid said he was waiting for his brother at Clinton Springs and Reading his cover was totally blown. There's no reason to be there that late at night unless you're buying drugs. Overall, i think it really gives the impression that the city is crappy and crime ridden. Hell, that shooting was right near Grammers.

why would Ghiz and Bortz be so crappy about a stupid show? Mallory is term limited so, why bother going after him? It just seems petty.

    Anyone watch Police Women last night? it really showed a wonderful side of the city. {/sarcasm}

It wasn't as much a lack of support for strickland as it was the fact that Ohio, for whatever reason, holds its gubernatorial election during the mid-term. I don't know if there is one single major metropolitan area that turns out for the mid tems in the same numbers as it does for Presidential election years. I also don't care for the thought process that Cleveland has some responsibility to balance out the conservative corners of this state. With my schedule on Election Day I would have been quite late to work: not an option. I'm sure I'm not the only one who would have voted if we had the day off, but it works for the Ds and Rs, who effectively silenced my would-be 3rd party vote. Vote absentee. I almost never go to the actual polling stations. yeah, there simply is no excuse for not voting in Ohio anymore. If you don't want to vote, fine...but it's impossible to say that it was unavailable to you.

    1) Natalie Portman 2) Mary Louise Parker 3) Kate Beckinsale 4) Jessica Beal 5) Ryan Reynolds 6) Justin Timberlake Okay...the last two are man-crushes and a little different than the first 4...but, still...it's slightly unhealthy.
  12. i frequent a site that recently left vBulletin 3 and they did that because of the number of issues they experienced in the last few months and the discussions they had with other people that went to the newest vBulletin software and were very unhappy. I guess they were experiencing more attacks in the last 14 months than they had in the previous 15 years (yes, it's an old board)
  13. and how do you determine which kid gets it and which kid doesn't? and what happens when someone takes it too far like Rob's a-hole teacher obviously did? I don't have kids and so i can't say that i will never spank my child...but, i will endeavor to do everything else to not do so. That isn't to say that my child will not be disciplined...but there are other ways to effectively do so. I'll support a teacher disciplining my kid as they see fit, but the second it crosses to corporal punishment, i'll have that teacher's job.
  14. i am amazed that walmart leased out the building in Columbia Township (to a flea market) because they typically don't do that...instead preferring to leave an empty shell behind to limit any and all competition. I've seen them do this time and again. Of course, i'm not exactly thrilled that it's a flea market...but, whatever.
  15. Nope! For me it's the prevalent Appalachian culture in the area and the accents. And yes, a lot of native Cincinnatians DO sound southern to my New England ears, especially the blacks (.....waiting for assertions of racism). I'm black and Panamanian btw. I really want to meet a Panamanian black with a Boston accent. Oh, that gives me goosebumps.

It seems like Kasich is pissed because of laws that are supposed to prevent the influence of outside sources...and is there really an issue with having to take a year off between your regulatory job and working for the industry you're regulating?

As a Cincinnatian and a pretty progressive person...i'd say that Cleveland is a liberal utopia. But, that's my bitter and jaded view from the south.

Is this juxtaposition meant to be ironic? I try not to do anything ironically. I the New Sincerity philosophy as put forward by The Sound of Young America. I fail at this a lot...but, it's something that i aspire to. Further, i don't think that it was a juxtaposition. I do like sports a lot, but there are a lot of things that are more important. If i'm at home and one of my teams is playing i'll watch it...but, if there's something else going on that i have to attend to...i'll do that. I don't "love" sports...i find that i don't have hugely strong feelings about anything (with the notable exception being politics).

hipster blasphemy: i really like pop culture (although, i get my reality TV from the Soup or Infomania) I enjoy easy to read crap fiction I think Stephen King is an amazing author I like button down shirts My jeans are always going to be loose fit My beard is not ironic I don't have a problem working 9-5 I don't have any tattoos I don't really have really strong feelings about things that don't matter I like sports, a lot.
  20. HHS78, I'm not really trying to guilt you into staying, i'd be gone tomorrow if my wife and i could find commensurate jobs in Michigan (our home). But, since that's not happening, we've decided to make the best of it. Unfortunately, we're quite progressive people and it's tough down here. Most of the "liberals" i've met here would qualify as pretty far right wing in a lot of towns. It's unbelievable. It's so easy to get down on things when all you hear is people ragging on the streetcar or telling falsehoods about 3C. This election was particularly dispiriting...but, if i'm going to be here for awhile, i have to look at what makes it great. Great parks, a really interesting arts scene, lots of friends that are similarly displaced from their hometowns, etc. It's all in what you make of it.
  21. thanks for saying my name...not talking would have really put a crimp in my plans.
  22. Just watched a bit of one of the open meetings. College Hill? One guy urged the committee to keep on with the streetcar because it was terribly important to the future of the city. He got a smattering of applause. Tom Luken was more incoherent than usual. Claimed to be Pavlov's dog or something. Clearly didn't understand committee rules, refused to shut up & got a healthy round of applause. That one was in Westwood. Those meetings are unbelievable. Almost every person gets up and says the streetcar should be stopped (and that's how you know they don't have the capacity to understand how the funding works). Honestly, look at the budget and then go tell council how they can save $60MM without cutting a single cop or firefighter. I'm sure they'd love to hear it. It's off topic, but...the unions don't have to take concessions...council agreed to their contract and that's fine. But, they have the opportunity to help their "brotherhood" and not have a bunch of guys laid off. If they don't avail themselves of that opportunity...they're not giving council any choice...because, there is no money in the streetcar (see how i tied it back in?)

Please! I'm very hairy. I have to shave daily! I wish I didn't have to shave. I was referring to Harry Potter. Oh, i know you were talking about Harry Potter (and i accept my faults and pretentions) and i appreciate you supporting me through it. See, that's even worse, you can grow a beard and choose not to. just awful.

My image of you is that you don't have facial hair. If that's true, i think less of you. Nothing personal. :-)

I like a lot of the things you folks hate...i used to hate tea...then i got over my ignorance when it became clear i couldn't drink coffee anymore. i have never liked Soundgarden. Cornell's voice is too pretty. Dane Cook is an unfunny hack with a lot of enthusiasm for his unfunny jokes (this used to be an unpopular position, not so much now). I have less respect for men that don't grow beards (or can't). One of my favorite movies of the last 5 years is "The Invention of Lying" (not really a cultural blasphemy...it was a great movie) I used to feel superior because i'd never read those stupid kids books "Harry Potter" and then i didn't have anything to read while on vacation and the first book was there...i read it in like a day and a half and then whipped through the series...it taught me a lot about being pretentious and how i was missing out on a lot of stuff.
